Eating some crow and stuff like that there

(credit: Getty Images)

Well, ladies and gents, I’m here to publicly apologize to Anderson Cooper! Yes, it would appear that I, Sheryn Royce, am eating crow instead of turkey this Thanksgiving. Last week when Anderson covered the OJ book and TV special, I had a blogging fit. You see, I thought that giving OJ Simpson attention was like free advertising for the book and interview. Of course, I can’t keep my mouth shut and just trust that Anderson Cooper knows what he’s doing. Noooo, I had to bitch and moan about how lousy the show was and how he let me down.

Well, it turns out that Anderson Cooper and the crew at AC360 and all of the other networks and anchors and bloggers in the free world, called enough attention to this media debacle to make Ruppert Murdoch actually grow a conscience. Or all of the sponsors were pissed because they too were being boycotted so they pulled out and Mr. Murdoch was left holding OJ and the bag! Wow, I’d drop that bag pretty darn fast too, if I were him!

And so, here is my apology to Anderson:

Mr. Cooper, I am truly sorry for having doubted you. You know far better than me how the media has the power to bring about change. You said:

COOPER: ...I've been getting e-mails for the last 24 hours from people -- (a), annoyed that we're even talking about it because they feel that gives this more publicity. But then, of course, you know, still people can decide whether or not to actually watch the program, whether or not to actually buy the book. I guess my argument would be it's better to be informed now about it and help you make a decision, whether you want to actually contribute money to this effort or not.

And you were completely correct. I promise I will never doubt you again!

Okay, now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, on with the rest of my post! I must admit I do not have much to give you in the way of Anderinformation! But I will share with you some fun emails I’ve received over the past couple of days.

It seems Avalon has come up with a new drinking game! She calls it Alluding to Anderson's Alliterations!

Hi Sheryn - …Tonight when AC was reporting on the congressional page who released the Mark Foley e-mails he said something like: " . . . he helped hobble and humble the congressman . . ." and I almost laughed out loud.

These are just from a couple of paragraphs in the introduction of his book:

smoothed like a stone
scraped by space
too many chasms to count
perched on a precipice
memory of moments
horror and hatred

Here are a few from Details:
nail biting - cutely cut cuticles
vacations - I know this isn't a popular platform right now, but why must we pursue perfection
new years - pathetic parties, ridiculous resolutions, helacious hangovers
alex trebec - cool, calm, coiffed

Just opened up to a random transcript and here is this:
Palestine petitioned for a peace process

This could be one of those drinking games where you take a shot each time Anderson alliterates. Don't get me wrong. I think he writes beautifully and doesn't get enough credit for it. His Reporter's Notebooks are things of beauty. And these examples above range from hilarious to heartbreaking (see, there I can do it too).

Yes, Avalon, I agree that Anderson is a beautiful writer. I envy his talent and I aspire to be as poetic as he is one day! In fact, Anderson’s writing drew me into this fandom. I really miss his Details articles and hope that when his schedule permits, he begins to write for a magazine again.

So the next time Anderson graces our TV screens, we'll have to break out the booze! (hey this alliteration thing is fun!)

The second email I got came from Ruby Slippers. (image borrowed from emotionlotion.com)

Re: Stephen Colbert newsflash

TV Guide says that Stephen Colbert has recorded a role for The Simpsons, scheduled to air during the 2007-08 season. He'll play a character named Colby, a role a Simpsons rep says "is very much a version of himself". Get ready for a big dose of truthiness, Springfield.

First it was Anderson + Muppets, and now CartoonColbert! Bring on the new TV season!

Well Ruby knows that I have a dirty little secret! That’s right, I hang my head in shame because I’ve been cheating on Anderson with a married man! I must admit, I fought the urge at first but Stephen Colbert’s political banter and adorable smile were too much for this girl to take! One look at that man in person and I fell in love!!!

Thanks to both Avalon and Ruby for their contributions today. I love hearing from readers! And if you have anything you’d love to share with us, just click on our profiles to find our email addies. Your contributions during the long Andervacation are greatly appreciated!

Tomorrow I’ll be blogging about some lovely items I’d love to receive for Christmas! I know you’ll love them too!

Have a great night and try not to miss Anderson too much!

I was soooo thrilled when I heard the news about the OJ deal falling through. Maybe there's hope for this world yet!

Well, don't worry Sheryn. It's okay to rant every now and again. I ranted earlier in the year about the show. I always think that if I don't like tonight's show tomorrow's will better (hopefully). The one good thing about 360 is that it's never the same.

I'm sure Anderson wouldn't have minded your post. He knows not everyone is gonna love everything he does all the time. :)

Sheryn,
The Doubting Thomas of the group.
I am glad you've seen the error of your ways...why, you know Anderson wants us all to think alike and never question anything - NOT!

Sydney, it was a great thing to hear last night! The crow was a little tough but I can take it!

Yup that's me, Van! Doubting Thomas/Sheryn! PT is right though, everytime I bitch about a show, the next night, its better. He should try to do that on the nights I blog though! I hate looking like the "bad cop!" LOL!

Ms. Fairie, I trust you enjoyed yourself this weekend? Hope so!

I don't know Sheryn, I don't think you should be eating a whole lot of crow. Maybe just a little. Anderson's motives may have been pure concerning the OJ overdose (heh, I can alliterate too), but I guarantee the network did it for ratings. IMO, it was still too much. We have to remember that the size of his audience is still small compared to the US at large and no offense to the show, but I'm guessing that the comedians on the night shows brought more awareness than he did. Still though, kudos to Anderson.
