What won't I do for Anderson Cooper? I watched the Republican's debate on Wednesday night, for God's sake. Does that not prove my devotion? As my friend Sheryn said earlier tonight "My ears are bleeding". Seriously, it was just awful. But I did listen closely, just in case I can't vote for the Democrat's nomination.
•I love John McCain. I think it's partly just his charisma. If you ever get the chance to meet him you'll understand. He's funny and irreverent and very, very savvy. If only he wasn't such a hawk.
•Rudy and Mitt did themselves no favors tonight by going for the jugular. I heard from so many people that muted their televisions when it got too ugly.
•I learned several things tonight, but the most fascinating was that Ron Paul was an OB. I don't know about you, but I have a real problem with thinking of someone who earns his living putting women in stirrups and looking at their hoo haas as Presidential. LOL.
•Then there's Fred Thompson. Why does he remind me of John Wayne? I had to laugh at the lady in Erica Hill's focus group who said she doesn't care for his TV shows. In my opinion that's about the only thing I do care for.
•Mike Huckabee lost me when I heard that he gave free rides at state universities to children of illegal immigrants. His reasoning was that they had gone through the public school system the same as legal residents, so they deserved that same scholarship rights. If I understood him correctly after we've given them 13 years of free public education we owe them 4 more? Unbelievable.
Like with the last debate there was again some controversy, this time concerning Brigadier General Keith Kerr who spoke passionately (and much too long) about gays in the military. If you watched the debate he seemed to want to lecture the candidates more than ask them a question. Again CNN's team of producers didn't vet their audience participates very effectively. Before the program was over Bill Bennett disclosed Kerr's association with one of Hillary Clinton's election committees. This is not AC's fault, IMO, but that of the CNN research team. But, like the previous brouhaha, I'm sure he'll take the brunt of the criticism. Not fair.
I'm sure you noticed that all of our question & answer participates (except Mike Watkiss) were on Wednesday's AC360. I wonder how John Roberts manages to be awake, let alone alert, for American Morning when he's still talking politics with AC at 11 PM?
Here are a few more high res pictures courtesy of CNN. Yes, I saved the best for last. CNN Worldwide – All Rights Reserved 2007©

And if you haven't had enough Anderson Cooper photos here's a link to a slideshow from a Tampa television station. Enjoy.

The Presidential debate.
They all came out with their boxing gloves on. It looked like it was going to get very ugly and it did! there wasn't a big winner, but 2 of them did impress me I'm not saying I'm going to vote for either one of them, but I like Mike Huckabee answer whether or not he believes what the bible has to say he was right on the money the way he answered it. I also liked his answer on "What Would Jesus Do". John McCain I felt for him when they were talking about torture. I know he was prisoner of war and was tortured for years also my dad like what McCain did have to say about the war. It look like they were all of course saying what they thought the people would want to hear, but did they really mean what they had to say tonight. I guess it up to each person to figure it out for them selves.
I felt for Anderson tonight the candidates wouldn't listen to him, I found myself shouting at the TV screen " He said time" I also was afraid Anderson was going to take one too many steps backwards. Anderson did a very good job no one could have done it better. In my opinion.
The suit that Anderson had on tonight look very nice, again my opinion.
Okay, I think I found my new wallpaper with that last picture. Thanks :)
I totally hated the debate tonight, but then I disagree with just about every issue they talked about. So yuck!
HI there!
I have just a quick comment about those last 2 hi resolution pics:
OMG!!!!!
I think that is all I am capable of saying at this time!
I will come back later with a coherent statement!LOL
Sorry, the fangirl came out there for a sec!
I agreed with everything up you've said, until the Mike Huckabee thing, but I refuse to dwell into my reasons why on the basis that I'm looking to avoid a flamewar. Other than that, I don't like the majority of the questions asked, and I felt that there could have been a better selection. But I think that Anderson did a great job nonetheless.
Watching the debate last nite was like watching school children on the playground. Way too much pointless arguing between the two of them. Well between all the canidates, really.
Mike Huckabee drove me nuts. There were just too many things he said that I didn't like.
Oh and then there was the question about space exploration. This country has bigger issues to worry about than whether or not we go to mars or whatever.
CNN needs a better research team. They should have known that General Keith Kerr has ties with the Clinton campaign. It makes 360 look bad because most people are going to blame Anderson.
FanGirl moment: Andy looked so so so pretty last nite. I loved his tive, very nice. And of course his hair looked so soft and almost cloud-like...LOL!!!
Although Anderson did a great job,I am just puzzled by some of the choices for questions.
Some of the real important issues seem to be left out-to me they did, anyway.
I think it could have got kind of ugly for a bit there, too.
And is Mars really so important?
Just my opinion on the night, ladies.
I think the prez candidates spent way to many
times personally attacking Hillary Clinton in
their videos and on stage: I reminds of what
is wrong with modern day politics.Hit mute!!
I agree CNN should have done a better job
on checking out the questioners. At least
the mistake was caught by CNN(courtesy
Bill Bennett). It is smart to take the issue
head on Although it remains to be seen
if Brig General Kerr is still with the Clinton
campaign . I doubt is it was a plant by
the Clinton campaign.
In my opinion, debates are a waste of time. The candidates never really answer anything with a real answer. They will say what they think people want to hear. In the end, I do want to know what they stand for but I'd also like to know more... what EXACTLY are their plans, not just "This country should have better _____ eduction or be safer or whatever word to fill in the blank." They never say how in a debate. I'd rather read a more indepth answer in the paper or in an interview.
I wasn't able to see the whole live telecast of the debate(it's Q&A) to me but will sure catch the replay later.
Whew! the last two pics are terribly gorgeous. They made my day!
When politicians start arguing amongst themselves I tune out since I feel they are evading the question then and just bantering. Just plain gets boring for me. And Anderson had to keep saying "time" and, of course, they didn't listen and stop.
I like that John McCain stood his ground on the issues and he didn't take any slack about the waterboarding tactic on POW's as he only knows so well. Not saying I'm voting for him cause I have no idea whom I'm voting for. I could tell he was mad from the comments made. No eye contact and his jaw was flinching.
The audience members didn't have that much input last night to me with their comments so why were they on?!
Anderson did the best job he could do under the circumstances of all these bantering candidates. Hope he doesn't get slammed because of the retired Brig. Gen. info. cause it wasn't his fault.
I "watched" the debate, but found myself doing other things out of the room during it. And yes CNN needs a new research team, they had the memo, they had the facts, where was the follow up? As for Mr Cooper he seemed to have lost them at "hello" at the beginning. He lost control, but did make a good recovery.
Hello from New York!
Well, I didn't get to see much of the debate except for the podcasts as my friend's computer isn't upgraded for CNN's streaming (?? seems to have everything on it..flight delays....) but I did get some of the points.
I'm sure it will be rebroadcast so I can see it but the recap here was helpful. I told a few friends about six months ago to watch out for Huckabee - he can break out.
Who did the best job last night in terms of standing out from the pack and possibly taking the nom? Too soon to tell?
I'll have to read the press reviews when I get home - they still hadn't let up on the Las Vegas debate - so the republican analysis will be interesting.
So nice to know a candidate takes time to tell a viewer how to throw a gun...Will the dems become complacent after this? Yikes...
J in LA (but NYC right now)
It was an intersting debate particularly since I dont plan on voting for any of them...I thought Huckabee, and McCain did alright. Ron Paul well lol lol lol. Romney is totaly a "flip flopper." And Thompson who??
AC did Ok...he looked great.
Hello Darlings - I've been buried in a hugh project but have been checking in regularly.
The hate and negativity of last night's debate left me depressed. Don't you think all the candidates videos were just like they are? Mitt's was slick, Rudy's was nasty, Fred's was desperate . . .
What part of "time's up" do they not understand?
AC did a masterful job, tho - and the photos - thanks guys.
(Hi Sheryn)
avalon
I have to agree with Phebe - what I won't do for Anderson Cooper
I thought Anderson was superb but that is the only positive of the entire debate
I thought the commentary after the debate summed it up - while they didn't mentioned Bush they all support his failed policies
Rudy and Mitt reminded me of 3 year olds on a playground fighting over the sandbox
Hunter, Thompson and Tancrado should pack it in already
Ron Paul provides comic relief
At least McCain and Huckabee showed some class
It truly scares me to think that any one of these men could be president if the people of this country don't wake up and realize they would be relecting bush
It was difficult to watch this debate. All I got out of it was that Huckabee came across the best of that bunch even though a lot of what he said I completely disagreed with and McCain was impressive with his firm stance against torture. Fred Thompson seems like a grouchy old man and has yet to demonstrate how he's qualified to be president.
CNN should have done better vetting of its questioners such as Keith Kerr but I did like when Anderson kept pressing Mitt Romney to answer the question about gays in the military, it seemed like one of those moments where AC wanted an answer and not a "response".
AC had some difficulty keeping them in line this time around, I really wanted him to SHOUT "time" at them when they kept rambling, but he did finally start to make some headway later. The final question about baseball was a disappointment. Overall, I like the YouTube format, hearing directly from the public is a good thing but I won't be watching another Republican debate, that's for certain.
Hey, which one of you gals is "Journey" from the debate last night?
I think Rudy and Romney should just duke it out on the stage, it will make more interesting debate.
High point: Anderson looked soo hot in his suit.
Low Point: Pretty much whenever the Rudy and Mitt opened their mouth. Rudy just come out so combative and Romney just dance around the issue.
At least Ron Paul had his two cents in. He is an interesting candidate, he usually stir up the debate with his view.
Favorite time: Seeing John King during the post debate.
In the future, I will just skip the debate and watch the post debate commentary.
Friday night looks like no 360 but a Christian Amanpour special.
My mother always told me that if I have nothing nice to say not to say anything. So no comments on me about the debate content.
Anderson was great and I loved that he had to get a little feisty several times. LOL. I like this side of him.
These pictures are the best B-day present I could have ever wanted - thank you Phebe and a belated Happy Birthday to you too! We are almost twins! LOL.
I just saw MSNBC in flipping channels and jerky Tucker Carlson is crucifying CNN over that gay General. Whatever. The nerve of that man! Saying why would any candidate want to answer questions from freaks on the Internet. He is so obviously jealous. And that CNN May have done that on purpose. Please! Get a life buddy. Rant over. Sorry :P
Happy Birthday Pati! Seems like the Sagittariuses love Anderson :)
Thanks PT - I know that is right! Sags and Geminii's are supposed to be the real deal. LOL.
The ratings sure were great. Actually Anderson has had a great week ratings wise. 60 Minutes was viewed by 16 million and last nights debate was seen by approx 4.4 million viewers. According to TVNewser last nights debate was the highest rated primary debate in history.
I watched the entire debate and now know why I would never consider voting for any Republican candidate in this group.
I watched most of the debate. It was interesting, but I have to say some of the questions were pretty weak. Couldn't they have cut out the Confederate flag and the Yankees and make room for a real issue like health care? I find it hard to believe out of the thousand of videos submitted that was the cream of the crop.
Don't know what to say about the debate. Just didn't much care for any of them. I was wanting Anderson to be a little more forceful like Wolf was in asking everyone to answer a few of the questions. However, I know that he took heat last time for not letting them truly debate and respond. As he said on the interviews you posted yesterday, he is never going to please every one. I think Mike Huckabee is probably closest to my thinking but in some areas I just can't get on board with him. I am still in a quandry...none of the candidates, dem or repub, have the package I am looking for. I'm beginning to wonder if the woman or man exists in today world of politics.
I generally like McCain but had to take issue with him last night. As he said, the soldiers didn't lose in Vietnam, but neither did the American public. The loss in Vietnam can be placed on the shoulders of politicians that did not allow soldiers to do their job when needed and played politics with young mens lives. Sound similiar to Iraq? It is my opinion that we sent soldiers to Iraq knowing they are undermanned and undersupported. Now the same politicians are angry because the American public is tired of watching them die. Sorry, just my opinion but it comes from a reliable source. I know he was trying to continue supporting the military but if he want's to place blame, he should place it where it belongs..with his fellow politician's in D.C!
I'm not sure how much more of the mudslinging and manipulation of facts I can take. I wish we could find one candidate(in either party) that would say "look folks, this is how it is, we have problems, it won't be easy, and here are MY solutions." Then again, maybe an honest forthright person can't get elected..eewww so frustrating.
I don't know how I made myself watch the Republican debate. I'd rather have a colonoscopy than watch it again. It calls to mind a painting of grotesques by Heironymous Bosch. I didn't envy Anderson's assignment last night. It didn't seem like he was being forceful enough, and lost control, at least in the beginning. I could never vote for any of those men. I dislike each of them for different reasons. I think CNN could have selected better questions. Why no questions on health care or education? Don't Republicans have children? The question on the Bible was completely inappropriate. Whatever happened to separation of church and state? Blech, I can't wait until this election is over.
I thought I read/heard somewhere Anderson was supposed to ask follow up questions.
I don't recall he did much of that.
Happy Birthday, Pati! Alot of celebrating this week! Hope you are having a special birthday today and you get all of your birthday wishes!
*Waving feverishly* HI my friend Avalon! I've missed you!
And a big Happy Birthday to Pati!
Happy BDay Pati. It's been quite a week for Anderfans.
Good to see you back Avalon. Please don't be a stranger.
i actually liked the debate. there were some questions i disagreed with the way the candidates answered, but then there were some where i actually agreed with.
The interrogation tactics was interesting. Yes it's a big "moral" issue, but honestly not something that should be discussed in detail for all the world to hear (imo)
I agreed with the statement about how other counries are "denouncing" (maybe not the best word to use) America, but who was it that always went to their aid? Oh that's right...it was the USA..hmm interesting.
but i'm not going to rant on my political ideals here because I know i'm in the minority on this board. Anderson did an okay job, but I haven't tuned in to his show in a long time to have any comparison to.
