AC360 Twitters and Tweets Too

UPDATE: AC360 will be LIVE Sunday night at 8PM ET.

Gustav's back...Yes, back. Do you remember in 2002 there was another Hurricane Gustav (Cat 2) that grazed North Carolina and other areas along the Eastern seaboard? I guess Gustav wants to make a name for himself this time. Maybe he'll get cold feet (or hit cold water) and do a repeat of 2002.

When it does hit, I hope the worst we see is Anderson reporting

looking like this....

than like this...

I asked Phebe to post video the other night of Anderson teasing Wolf saying "Blitzer Twitters and Tweets". Does Anderson know he has his own Twitter account? Uhh...he does. Check out http://twitter.com/andersoncooper. It looks like the AC360 blog uses the account to send out notifications of new blog postings. So maybe that's how some people are always first to post on the AC360 blog.

Cyn mentioned in the comments yesterday that Anderson's Daily Show appearance aired Friday night. If you missed the show or didn't check it at our sister site, ATC, here it is. I wonder how many times they had to practice the "AC360" :)

video

One thing I've enjoyed about Anderson reporting from the DNC is that pics, videos and encounters with Anderson pop up all over the place. Here are some more pics from Denver.

These two are from one of our readers.

This one is Anderson waiting to get into the Google-Vanity Fair party.

Don't you think Anderson looks completely surreal with regular people around him? It's hilarious!
He looks like a cardboard cutout of himself!

I really hope Gustav isn't as bad as they say it's going to be when it hits.

Cute clip of Anderson on the daily show. I love how when he is being spun around he's saying "oh my oh my oh my", very cute!

Great pics of AC. He looks really nice in them.

I checked out the Twitter page, but I still don't understand what it's for, lol. I'm a bit technologically challenged...
Anderson makes for a cute Tweety though :)

So, Anderson parties with Hillary Rosen, huh?

If you want to check out politico.com there is an article/statement from David Bohrman "Bohrman said he’s coordinating CNN’s convention coverage with the expectation that Cooper will not be in the Twin Cities on Monday." Bohrman is CNN's senior vice president for programming.

I wrote an email a little while ago,to Gary Tuchman, asking him if he could get an update on Mr Herbert Gettridge.I was thinking about him,and concerned for him and his ''old lady''...they moved back not long ago to NOLA,and now to have this coming,I was wondering if they will make it out ok.

HE WROTE BACK LESS THAN A HALF HOUR LATER,ASSURING ME THEY WOULD TRY TO FIND OUT WHERE HE WAS...

I have received responses from him before, when I wrote about questions....what a great guy.Even though he is so busy,he took the time to respond, which I appreciate,it was sweet.

Thanks,Gary!

Anderson on the Daily Show clip -
the poor widdle fella! I don't think he could have stook up for himself! He totally caved. Because he knew what was good for him and that he had no choice.

Anne, thank you for asking Gary to check on Mr Gettridge!!! I met him and Mrs. Gettridge last fall and got a tour of his restored house. He's a lovely gentleman! My friends who moved out of the Lower Ninth to the Upper NInth have evacuated to Alexandria, LA, but I fear their Habitat house will be in tatters when they return. It's so hard when you have been down there and seen the slow progress.
The Daily Show segment was a RIOT! Anderson kept his cool pretty well while he was being "spun".
Thanks again, Anne. You've relieved my mind!

I had never heard of Twitter until that American in Egypt was able to use it to help free himself out of jail.

I'll try to explain it using this guy as an example. This guy was in Egypt in a jail and had his cell phone. He sent via his cell phone a text message that said "Arrested" to his Twitter account. Friends of his that had signed up on Twitter as "followers" of him received the message.

What is nice about Twitter is you can send/receive messages without being online. Examples on Wikipedia include the Twitter website, instant messaging, SMS, RSS, email or through an application such as Twitterrific or Facebook.

So follower A could have received the message "Arrested" on his cell phone, follower B in an e-mail, and follower C on the Twitter website.

Rich Sanchez was on at 11 PM last night and he was using Twitter to communicate with people in the Gulf Coast. BTW Rick is going to have a new show on CNN starting 9/08/08 at 3 PM.

I posted this comment on yesterday's post, but it was kind of late in the day. I certainly don't mean to be pushy, but I was really interested in what everyone had to say. Here is my original post:

Let me start this by saying that I really do admire Anderson for his work as a journalist and for his coverage of Katrina. I'm not one of the ones who think that he hasn't spent enough time down there or hasn't kept his promise to keep it in people's minds, or even that his interest in the story is only for his own personal gain. I think he's been entirely sincere and has done a better job than most keeping New Orleans in the news.

Having said that, I can't help but feel lately that his coverage and just his attitude in general toward the Katrina story has gotten a bit stale. While I always enjoy his Reporter's Notebooks and blog posts, they are so repetitive. The Reporter's Notebook last night seems to harp on the destruction of the aftermath (which I don't think should be forgotten) instead of on the rebuilding that has gone on down there. I don't see any reason why it's beneficial to continue to be so somber instead of starting to become more optimistic like it seems the region has become over the past year. Same with his most recent blog post. It sounds the same as everything he always says. I'm not saying that he doesn't have a right to his opinions, but if you don't have much new to say, I don't think it really needs to be said again. All that about how he doesn't like anniversaries, and how they've done x number of shows from there since Katrina, etc. it's all stuff he puts into every entry about Katrina, and could have been a line taken from his book, or something he said on the first anniversary or even several months after the storm for that matter.

I think to really help the people of New Orleans he should focus more on their renewed spirit and see some of the great amount of rebuilding that has gone on, while still never forgetting why this all happened to begin with. And I should add, not just him seeing it, because I believe he has, but report on it. Do a blog post or a Reporter's Notebook on the people he met down there and how they are doing now. Instead of showing that woman who he helped pull out her chair and her ceramic bear, see where she is now and how her life has gotten better, not relive the tragedy of those days after Katrina. I honestly don't think that's what these people need. Of course, they can never forget what happened, but to really rebuild their lives, the focus has to shift to looking to the future or they'll never be able to heal the past.

Kristien said...

@Quitty: thanks for explaining the Twitter thing, I kinda understand it now.

@Anne: I hope they find Mr Gettridge and that he's ok! Great idea to email Gary!

Just thought you might want to know Anderson is going to be on live tonight from NOLA for two hours, starting at 8:00

Anonymous said...

Does anybody know how tall Anderson is? He looks so short compared to the guys on these DNC pics and the daily show clip.

Anne said...

@Viewer in Virginia:

Mr.and Mrs.Gettridge seem so adorable, you were so lucky to get the chance to meet them...

it breaks my heart, that, after all the hard work Herbert had done to restore his home, that they may not have anything to come home to,nor the will or the money to start all over again,at their ages.

OR,god forbid,they refused to evacuate,maybe.....

I just hope they will be ok,where ever they may be......

AND,PRAYERS TO ALL THE RESIDENTS DOWN THERE....

Tebi B. said...

I, too, was wondering about Herbert. I'm so glad you emailed Gary about that, Anne. The thought that his house could be damaged after all he put in it is so sad. I hope all turns out okay in Nola. Not to mention thr Cnn people that have stayed behind to cover it.

Can you beleive someone actually sent THIS in???

'' don't drown!otherwise, the 6 bag lady will be left widowed before marrying you,and without a child...''

What an insensitive, bitchy, tasteless, stupid(I could go on) remark....

if THAT is their attempt at humor,it sure as hey leaves a lot to be desired!

Don't drown!!They could not have simply said ''stay safe'',maybe?

Good lord,what an idiot..

Anonymous said...

In the video of poor little Anderson being twirled around: I bet Anderson isn't 150 lbs, and that guy who picked him up with no effort at all is probably 250. I bet these guys had a good time with him, and I liked the guy smoking the cigarette looking at Anderson walking up, at the skinny little guy coming.

ACAnderFan said...

@anne, clearly the person who made the don't drown comment has no idea how serious this hurricane truly is. That comment is wrong on so many levels.

Anonymous said...

I guess the six-bag lady is the stalker who wanted to move in with him?

Phebe said...

@anne and anonymous 1:06, I think you're probably right that the commenter was trying to catch AC's attention and maybe give him a little smile, but this isn't the appropriate time, imo. Until 1:06 connected it with the lady that supposedly showed up at his apartment I didn't have a clue what the commenter on the 360 blog was referring to. I think many of us are guilty of trying to be clever when adding comments to AC's posts, but today isn't the day for that.
We'll be doing a special post tonight with clips of the special AC360 programming. We will update as often as possible and ask that those of you watching CNN this afternoon to keep posting comments about what you are seeing and hearing too.

Anne said...

That comment on the live blog that I mentioned a little while ago in my previous post.....

not only did it p....s me off,big time, but it freaked me out, that someone could be so stupid as to make a remark like that...did they actually think THAT was funny??

I bet if Anderson HIMSELF had seen it,he would think otherwise..

that just crosses the line,IMO.

People like that scare me....

poor Anderson...

Anne said...

I sent yet ANOTHER comment to the 360 blog.....

and,I called out that insensitive post on that comment regarding the ''6 bag lady'....

Not sure if they will post it,but that idiot deserves it!

Kristien said...

@Anne, you're fired up and I like it, lol.
I read that post and it made me frown bigtime. She was probably trying to be clever like Phebe said, but ended up sounding stupid.

CNN Int. is constantly giving updates on Gustav and the effects it will have on the Rep. Convention.

Anonymous said...

Anderson is on the air reporting from NOLA right now.

Anonymous said...

Anderson is off the air now, to prepare for tonight's special.

anne said...

@kristien:

that comment bothered me....A LOT,in many ways.....

it was uncalled for,it crossed the line, and was disgusting,IMO.

I hate to change the subject, ladies, but this hurricane is a real gift to the Republicans. George W. will be able to show how "in charge" he is and how they all learned their lesson from Katrina and his buddy Mac will use the opportunity to show his leadership qualities. The fact that neither one has any wouldn't matter. All that counts to most people are the visuals.
Yes, let's all hope AC doesn't take any chances and stays safe.

Anonymous said...

I am surprised the moderator even posted that six bag lady comment. It's not like the live blog where they barely have time to read keep off.

This is not the first inappropriate remark that has made it through.

I am watching Rick Sanchez. No, he may not be all polished and all, but I do find myself liking him. He is really into twittering, and he seems to really get excited and into his job. I like his casual look - no jacket. I am glad he is moving to the weekday show. And I thought he was decent when he filled in at the 8:00 hour before Campbell showed up.

Hey, did anyone see John King think yesterday wearing jeans with his jacket and tie like Anderson does? I thought he looked good.

I don't know if anyone else watches Jon Stewart on a regular basis, but the guy with AC in the photo, by the bus is Jason Jones. He is married to Samatha Bee. They are both mock correspondents and the coverage of DNC in Denver will most likely be released on DVD. That is what happened in 2004.
