New Year's Resolution 2008

Time to take a look at the AC360 blog and at Anderson's 2008 New Year's Resolution. First, one of the reasons that I started looking at the AC360 blog statistics was because I thought that the blog was being neglected and wasn't being used to its full potential. In late 2007, this started to change and we consistently saw improvements to the blog over the past year. In 2007, there were 645 posts and the most blog posts we saw in a single day were 19 posts (December 11, 2007). In 2008, there were 3,810 blog posts and the day with the most posts was Election Day- November 4, 2008 with 41 blog posts.

The second reason for taking a closer look at who was posting to the blog came from Anderson when he said that his 2008 New Year's Resolution was to blog more. So, how did he do? Technically, he fulfilled his resolution. In 2007, Anderson was credited for 49 blog posts. In 2008, 51 blog posts.

Here are your top AC360 bloggers for 2008:

1Erica Hill136
2David Reisner127
3Maureen Miller106
4Penny Manis72
4Randi Kaye72
5Roland S. Martin63
6Gary Tuchman60
7Gabe Falcon59
8David Gergen57
9Barclay Palmer52
10Anderson Cooper51
11Sanjay Gupta49
12Jack Gray47
12Lisa Ort47

Since the blog started in 2006, this is the ranking of the top bloggers.

1Anderson Cooper152
2Erica Hill136
3Randi Kaye134
4David Reisner128
5Gary Tuchman117
6Maureen Miller106
7Tom Foreman89
8Gabe Falcon78
9Sanjay Gupta74
10Penny Manis72
11David Gergen70
12Roland S. Martin69

My prediction- by mid 2009- Anderson will no longer be the top overall blogger on the AC360 blog. Erica Hill averaged 11 posts per month during 2008. Randi Kaye average 6 posts per month. Anderson only averaged 4 posts per month.

Anderson Cooper CNN AC360 Live Blog 2008

In addition to regular blog posts, we saw the introduction of Live Blogging during AC360. Anderson participated in the Live Blog 117 times in 2008; averaging 10 times per month.

Neil Morton over at MyHogTown has a link to an interesting article. The blog An America In Lima is written by Barbara Drake and last week she posted an article about Anderson's hair. Evidently, there are number of people who want Anderson's hair cut. She's posted 10 Facts about Anderson Cooper’s Hair in hopes of providing her readers with some guidance on seeking out an Anderson-like cut.

I was having fun with some new photo editing software the other day and put it to use in creating tonight's puzzle.

One last item, the winners of the Audience Award from the 2008 iReports Film Festival were in Washington, D.C. for the inauguration. The provided us with the above picture and the following account of their trip:

We are the winners of the 2008 iReport Film Festival (Franco Carapellotti(In front of Anderson) and Zach Hawrot (In front of Soledad), and as part of our award we got to travel to Washington D.C. for the Inauguration. Luckily enough while we were there we got to meet the likes of Anderson Cooper, Don Lemon, Wolf Blitzer, Soledad O'Brien, and Campbell Brown. Everyone was really great, and treated us like they had know us for years. We were lucky enough to snap this attached photo with them also, and the thing that stuck out to us was that they had done all this and taken the time to talk to us, all while in the middle of their coverage. Don Lemon is the man though, he is the one that had us come over, and introduced us to everyone

If you'd like to take a look at their award winning iReport, the CNN Press Release announcing the winners provides a description of the short film and a link to the iReport.

CNN also presented an “Audience Award” to “The Electoral College: Barack Obama and John McCain College Roommates” based on votes cast by iReport.com users. Submitted by Franco Carapellotti and Zach Hawrot, this short film takes a comedic look at the trails and tribulations of what would happen if Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama were assigned to the same dorm room in college. This short film can be found at http://www.iReport.com/docs/DOC-114339.

As part of their awards, the filmmakers will receive a trip to Washington, D.C., during the presidential inauguration and a high-definition video camera.

That might be your most beautiful puzzle yet BA, nice job!!

Allthough I think Anderson's hair really suits him, I don't think I'll ever have my hair cut like his, lol, not a good look for a woman I think...

I'm glad that the 360 blog has gotten better. Having more posts from Anderson would be great, but we can't have everything I guess.

The 360 blog is the biggest dissapointment. It has porential and could be so much better. I think Anderson has totally given up on blogging. It's just not his thing. He dosen't live blog either, and Erica really dosen't either.

I love the article about the 10 facts about AC's hair. Number 6 is my favorite. He might look cute with a mohawk.

Love the first collage photo,ad I love seeing Anderson wearing that Chesterfield coat.He is SO serious in the one in the right, though!
As for the whole Live Blog thing,I think our Mr. Cooper has just about given up on it now,and all that DOES get through there are the 'usuals'.As for the moderators, they are asleep.
It seems it is the AC360 blog in NAME ONLY,because it seems that everyone AND the kitchen sink is on there posting.
Give me back the ''old days'' of the blog, which included posts from its namesake, and ONLY things to do with the actual show, from the people and correspondents on the show.

Not all the producers, and panel folks(Roland Martin!), or fashion posts,or silly award show blogs,
THAT belongs over at the Showbiz Tonight site, not AC360!

It's the AC360 blog, not the AC blog, I like reading the other posts from other bloggers as well, and the variation of topics. I actually think it's a really good blog as far as newsshow blogs go. Anderson's not required to have one, it's an extra, once a week is not even a bad average, I'd say. It's more than I blog, and I imagine he's busier than I am. I'd just really like a better moderator, the blog seems good to me.

I love the puzzle picture!

I don't know how he feels about live blogging...I think it, like many other things, depends on his mood. He'll skip it for days, and then he'll open the blog with a really enthusiastic message.

As for regular blogging, I think it's very tied to where he is. He almost never blogs when he's in NY, but when he's in the field he almost always writes at least one blog entry and they're usually pretty passionate. I think the writer in him is triggered by travel.

Greta Van Susteren may be shutting down her show blog, but considering how lousy and ignorant it is, it's not surprising. Anderson seems to prefer to let Jack Gray be the blog star so that he doesn't have to bother with it unless there's a big 360 event he wants to plug. Erica has also apparently given up on blogging. In that Columbia University lecture he gave, he said he gets to work by 1 pm and spends much of his day reading. I think he *might* be able to fit at least ONE blog post a week in if he were interested, but he's obviously not. Anderson can be just as funny and interesting as Jack G, I miss that side of him. I find 360's Senior Producer Barclay Palmer's posts interesting because through them you can see why 360's reports and reporters have a certain tone to them which are occasionally negative towards President Obama, it comes from the top. I'm not saying this because I believe Obama should NEVER be criticized, far from it, but it's just a pattern that I've noticed.

I would rather one post from Anderson a week, than ANY of the rest of the people who post there.
He can definitely out snark anyone on that site, including Jack Gray.
To me,it is not,and never will be the same, since he gave up posting regularly, and NO ONE else can make up for that, no matter who they are,or how funny they try to be,IMO.
Is it really necessary to have everyone and their grandmother there now, because that is what it seems like.
It may be CALLED the AC360 blog, but without the man himself, and his insights, like we used to look forward to so much,it is a shadow of its old self when it first started.

As for Greta, who cares, good riddance to her!

I could be wrong but I got the feeling that the live blog was started because Greta's blog and such. Anderson's live blog seems to be sort of popular now, at least the number of posts seems to have gone up quite a bit, maybe they have more moderators to approve more, I don't know, and Jack Gray seems to be very popular now.

I guess it will be interesting to see what Greta does and if it takes off and what 360 sort of mimics it.

Thanks for linking to my site. How strange (for me) that a blog about being an expat in Peru has become a forum for people to discuss Anderson Cooper's hair! It proves that blogs have a life of their own. (BTW: I agree with ACAnderFan that a mohawk would be way cute.)

Re Cooper himself blogging more: He should and I know that he has no time to do so. Too bad. He's edgier on page than he is onscreen.

Greta's blog is a hot mess and she writes like a 12 year old. Anderson might be hesitant to blog often because what he says sometimes gets scrutinized and picked apart by fans and people in the media alike, of course it comes with the territory, but it probably doesn't make him feel all that anxious to say much - it's sad because he's such an smart person and you just KNOW he's got tons of interesting things to say, but because of his "no opinions given" stance, he's backed himself into a corner where he can barely say anything. Dang I miss those Details columns. :(

Hi, I'm new to this blog but I just wanted to say you guys do a great job! I love how this blog mixes intelligence with the occasional fangirl moment :). Keep up the awesome work!!

It is obvious that Anderson has lost interest in the 360 blog as well as the webcam. He has noted that he loses interest in things quickly and the above is no different. Those that do posting on the blog, talk mainly to each other and don't seem to care whether AC is on or not.
The only time he actually POSTS, is to promote something after an absence.

According to TVNewser Anderson will be interviewing Obama sometime.

@Aries Moon, I miss Details too...I loved the freedom Anderson seemed to feel when writing those columns and really miss reading them. I love when Anderson travels because I look forward to reading at least one entry on the blog.

In my opinion, regarding the live blog, there are NO moderators, because of some of the shall we say,''questionable'' things that have been posted there a few times, were not fit to be put anywhere!
As for it being popular,it is,but only for those who get on night after night, which are the same people all the time.
How many have tried to post, only to see their comments go into 'moderation' oblivion',then disappear?
As for Jack Gray,I do not think the AC360 blog is the place for his award show get togethers, either, and I do not know why he is so popular.Well,to each his own,I guess.
Give us back Anderson any day,but I think he is totally over the whole thing.
To be honest,I cannot say I blame him.

BA, thanks for posting the puzzle as a picture as well. Took me over 9 minutes to do, but I LOVE your puzzles.

..I loved the freedom Anderson seemed to feel when writing those columns

@Em, that's one of the main reasons I miss it - we were able to get a little new insight into Anderson and his thoughts - he sometimes seemed like a completely different person when he'd write there.

@anon 8:16, I've had trouble in the past getting my comments out of moderation, but in the last couple of weeks or so, it's been a LOT easier to get posted - another ATA commentor said that they thought the blog may have gotten more moderators - it could be because I generally can NEVER get posted, but I have been lately.

Glad to hear AC will be interviewing Obama, along with the other high level correspondents, like Katie Couric and Chris Wallace. Too many soft interviews with people like Michael Phelps and Angelia Jolie. He should say no to such interviews because as we all know he gravitates towards hard news. Leave Angelia where she belongs, on E!
Speaking of which, congratulations to AC for calling "Mommy of Eight, make it Fourteen," delusional. Yes, she is. Now she wants to "sell" her story for millions or she was asked to sell her story. Either way, everyone should let her SUPPORT those kids and not look for the public and an easy book deal, written by someone else to bail her out! You had them lady, now go ahead and feed them and no I'm not buying a fan magazine to see who you are. You are irresponsible and to quote anderson, "delusional."
