Swine Flu.....How Do You Feel???

Hello everyone. After some computer issues I finally got my post together, but honestly this is the twitter version, as I have been working on this for almost 5 hours now.
Swine flu – 68 dead in Mexico, 8 confirmed cases in US. There is a possibility of 70 plus case in New York. Randi Kaye reports on the breaking news. This reminds me alot of SARS. It was an insane time in Toronto when that outbreak occurred. I had to travel to Europe during the time and when they found out people from Toronto were on the plane we had to visit the doctor at the airport and it was just crazy and then the following year going to China was no better.

LA Times Mexico bureau chief Tracy Wilkinson spoke to Anderson over the phone from Mexico about the latest details.

Sanjay Gupta spoke with Anderson about the medical aspect of swine flu.

More prisoner Abuse – Ed Henry reports on military memo dated July 2002 has military member saying torture of prisoners no less the 13 times and the White House decision to release the memo and photos.

Taliban’s Reach – Nic Robertson reports General Patraeus warning of Pakistan’s existence
Anderson spoke with Nic Roberston (from Pakistan) and Paul Cruickshank (in studio) about the taliban.

Craiglist killer – suspect is on suicide watch. Randi Kaye reports on the latest details.

David Mattingly reported on another case of a child committing suicide due to bullying. What is going on with our world this is horrible.

The shot – Obama candid photos Callie Shell recalls photo moments she has captured over the last almost 100 days of the Obama presidency. I can’t believe it has almost been 100 days because I cant believe it has already been that long since I was in Belfast that day. I clipped the shot for anyone who may have missed it.

That is it for me this week – Until next Friday ~ Sapphire

360 was pretty good last nite. I liked that they had Dr.Gupta on. I love hearing him talk about medical things.

The prisoner abuse pictures would be interesting. Although why they took pictures of that is beyond me. That's just dumb to take pictures.

Its nice to be getting some international news on the program. I think Nic Roberston should be on at least a few times a week.

I think the schools need to do more to stop bullying. It doesn't seem like they're doing alot to stop it.

For some reason, I was expecting "Antsy" Anderson last night, chomping at the bit to be outta there and off to whatever plans he'd made to stay as far away from the madding crowd as possible! I was pleasantly surprised to find and upbeat, engaged, even happy seeming Anderson. That man never disappoints, somehow.

When pigs fly - that's when I thought I'd feel like coming out from under my couch. What's that you say Dr. Gupta? This new Swine Flu virus has avian flu markers? Pigs are flyin' people, and I can get used to dust bunnies if I have to. "...Incoming!"

I was intrigued by the debate at the end of yesterday's comments about what to look for in Anderson's body and facial language, in order to discern his mood and opinon. So, forcing myself you understand, I paid especially close attention to every breath he took last night; occasionally foregoing my own to do so.

It's true. It's all there. The dismissive tone, the curt response, the classic raised eyebrow, a deeper furrow in his forehead. Or, in the opposite, a much softer voice, head up, the furrow disapates and he shows an almost parental tolerance and affection for those whose story has touched him. We've all seen snarky, funny, cutting Anderson. Love that. But watching as closely as I did last night was even better. Endless variations on a theme. This "enhanced (visual) interrogation" of Anderson's presentation does appear to reveal much more than first meets the eye. Try it. Don't just listen; hear him. Don't just watch; see him. Interesting guy.

Oh, and watchiing guest reactions, especially in-studio first timers, is total hoot!

Thank you, Anon 7:14 4/24/9

Although I liked seeing Sanjay Gupta again, I couldn't get into the swine flu story. Maybe I'm naive but I kept thinking it's not going to be something that will affect me directly. I wish they had more videotape to show with this story instead of showing the same shots every five seconds.

The prisoner torture story is important; this country shouldn't just say 'oh, well, it's in the past, let's just walk away.' No, this country is better than that and needs to hold those responsible accountable for their actions. Lynndie England was thrown into prison for Abu Graib, why not George Dubya?

There are probably more kids out there who committed suicide because of bullying but even with all the publicity about how bad it is, I don't think it will ever stop.

The Shot was nice but dull. Nice pictures of the First Family with dull commentary. Bring back goofy dogs.

If Jay Leno hadn't fallen ill, would Anderson have done the show from LA or would we have a substitute anchor?

Was Friday's tie the same one he wore on Tuesday?

I forgot to psychoanalyze Anderson during Friday's show so I'll wait til Monday to scrutinize his every move.

Did anyone notice that Anderson didn't seem to be playing with his blackberry that much this week? Maybe someone told him about our comments from a few days ago. ha ha

Also has anyone read that the FCC is investigating a comment that AC made last week?

anon 7:14 is right, Anderson AND Erica can sometimes speak volumnes with their facial expressions or lack thereof - when you've watched them for years, you can sometimes deduce what they might be feeling or thinking about a particular report - although I can't really be certain why Erica hasn't been reporting on The First Family as much as she had in the past, I wasn't exactly surprised that she stopped and my reasoning has a lot to do with some of what anon 7:14 brought up. I also used to wonder why Anderson's critics believed he was so enamored with President Obama - I never got a sense of that and I still don't. No opinions given by either of them in the manner we're all accustomed to, but there are PLENTY of subtle cues if you're paying attention.

I was struck by Anderson saying that he "prays" that he won't have to report on another child suicide because of bullying - this has been one of those stories that appears to have greatly affected him and I'm glad he's going to continue to focus on it. That clip of Jaheem Herrera's mom crying uncontrollably was heartbreaking.

@Jaanza: I fully agree with you. I too will have to scruntinize his every move as well. Did he flinch? Did he raise an eye brow? Are the furrows in his forehead deeper? What could that mean? Palm reading anyone? I did notice his left eye was a bit puffy, but so was Sanjay's. But with Sanjay, we all know he just had his third child, so no sleep for a while.

More puzzles, please.
The ones of pictures of Anderson?
thank you

Apparently the FCC is looking into the "teabagging" comments. But not just what Anderson said, something that was said on MSNBC also.

I also pray that 360, or any other show, won't ever have to report on the bullying/suicide stories anymore. Those stories are so heartbreaking, they're hard to watch.

"So forcing myself I paid especially close attention to every breath he took, foregoing my own," M in Oregon, should you really have to do that?
AC can also be dissmissive of Randi Kaye. Do we conclude from his abrupt behavior that he "doesn't like her or his time is limited or both?
Sorry, but no one should have to forego their "breathing" for someone on TV....even if that someone is AC.
Before you know it we'll all be analyzing "negative vibes."
It was quite noticeable that he was upset by the most recent hanging of the youth who had been harassed by his classmates. But when Erica reported on the sudden demise of the Polo Ponies, he moved on abruptly. Are we to conclude he dislikes horses or he was so overwrought he couldn't dwell on reporting it, or should I too, hold my breath, to see if what, he grimaces or distorts his face in disgust? No one is that important...not even AC. It should be apparent.

I like Randi Kaye, but that top she was wearing, with the frills was not suitable. She looked like
she was wearing a blouse that could have seen on Dancing With the Stars.

The FCC should investigate those that ridiculed the protestors. If that wasn't a "follow the herd mentality," I don't know what was.
People have a right to protest and they also have the right to "give their opinion," if it done in an orderly manner without demeaning remarks from the media.

ANON – 6.59 PM – Why don’t you grow up and act like an adult for a change, please. Don’t make a mockery of a decision and a position that is certainly important and very personal to Anderson Cooper. If you are so desperately interested in knowing what his opinion is, why do you write to him personally and ask him what his opinion is, and see how far you get, versus question his every decision each time he does not provide you with an opinion.

Anonymous said...

And one wonders why Mr. Cooper does not share his opinion. All you have to do is read comments from individuals like anon 6.59 PM. Unbelievable!

Sometimes a tongue-in-cheek response is called for. I'm breathing just fine. Thanks for your concern.

For his own sake, I hope Anderson doesn't land in hot water over this FCC "teabagging Investigation"!

I find it quite ironic that Mr. Cooper made a decision to give an opinion on "teabagging," and now the FCC is investigating him and the others who were offensive to those who protested. How unfortunate.
