AC's Africa Trip & Weekend Schedule

Here's CNN's press release on Anderson Cooper's trip to Africa:

As President Barack Obama makes a historic visit to Africa, CNN’s Anderson Cooper sits down with the President for an extensive interview and joins him exclusively as he visits Cape Coast Castle, Ghana, the site of an overcrowded dungeon where slaves were held before they were shipped west. Interview topics will include domestic and international issues as well as the President’s own close connection with Africa and the significance of his trip for African-Americans today. CNN’s chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta will join Cooper from Haiti, where he will report on the slave trade that continues to thrive in that country. The interview will air on Monday, July 13th and Tuesday, July 14th. Anderson Cooper 360° airs weeknights at 10pm ET on CNN.
On Saturday, July 18th and Sunday, July 19th CNN will air a special titled President Obama’s African Journey, anchored by Cooper, which will explore the President’s personal history in Africa, and First Lady Michelle Obama’s African lineage and how her ancestors came to the United States. In addition, Cooper will lead a discussion with African-American leaders about the significance of the President’s trip. The weekend special will air at 8 and 11pm ET. The special will also air on CNN International.

Phebe, glad to see this post before the show tonite. I am usually in bed by the time people start blogging for this show.

I love the pictures and the job you guys do here. This is where I get AC360 news. Why watch the show. Your comments are more interesting the next day.

Re: Andersons swim with Micheal Phelps, does AC have any hair on his chest?

I saw a clip of the dermatologist interview with Diane Sawyer. He was totally uncoperative. I got the impression that he liked talking to Larry King better.

Judging from the posts of the show, I guess Dr. Gupta wasn't called on yet to comment on the dermatologists professional comments. Is he going to come on today and disect it for us?

Re: the panel discussions. In the middle of flipping channels during the last 2 weeks, I thought I saw people who were supposed to have been coined as the "best political panel on TV" commenting on Micheal Jacksons death. (Not David Gergen, but Hillary what's her name and few others), I guess Jeffrey Tobin doesn't qualify to be disqualified from the best political panel on TV on this subject since he is a lawyer/journaist. I guess there is a lighter side to these people as well.

As per ratings. CNN doesn't care because people can just tune in anytime of the day or night and it is "BREAKING NEWS" as far they are concerned if you haven't already seen it that day. Yes, I know there is a financial aspect to this, but....They do have a niche in the market place that will eventually turn to them. Are they getting more hits on their websites or downloads on the podcasts than viewers of TV?

As for Al Sharkton, he was in his element on stage giving his memorial speech. Isn't that what he does best?

Well that's it for me for now. I really would like to know if Anderson has hair on his chest. Anyone??? Kay Jones????? Magnifying glass to the video?????

This sounds like a major undertaking for CNN and I guess that's why AC can tolerate having to spend an inordinate amount of time on the Michael Jackson saga. Anderson's ratings haven't been the greatest these last few months, but apparently that isn't stopping CNN from handing him large, significant assignments so their committment to him and AC360 must be pretty strong and that's a good thing. The media blogs have pretty much written his and the program's obituary.

@Kristien, now where have I seen your avatar pic of AC before? Hmm...no comment!

Phebe -- Thanks for this information -- I had been looking for more detailed info (like this) on AC's trip on the CNN and AC360 websites but couldn't find anything. Thanks for sharing and by the way -- is there a link for press releases of this nature or is it something privy to you because of this site? Just curious.

To All: The NYT is reporting today under its business section: Blowout Ratings For A Farewell,On-Line and Off: The Senior Vice President of CNN proclaimed that they have not seen a spike in ratings like the ones Jackson's death gave the cablers, since the Presidential elections. Interesting reading if so inclinded...not that we ever underestimated the importance of that bit of news for CNN.
