Good News/Bad News

Monday night's good news was that Anderson Cooper was back at the helm of AC360. The bad news is that his guests included Suze Orman and Mark Williams. Just shoot me now.The opening discussion with Mark Williams and Roland Martin followed a piece by Tom Foreman on the Congressional 23rd District in New York. The teabaggers are backing Doug Hoffman, who seems to be clueless about the issues and problems of the District.
I'm sure we'll hear more about this on Tuesday's all election coverage by TBPTOT. I really need put out of my misery.Erica Hill brought us the 360 Bulletins and the report on 'Women in the Workforce'. She reported that women take home 58 cents for every dollar that a man earns. The follow-up panel was with Suze Orman, Maria Ho (wasn't she the poker player that was kicked off The Amazing Race on Sunday night?), Dee Dee Myers and Dr. Katrina Firlik.
I wish 360 had asked viewers to send questions for the panel because I would like to ask Suze if she didn't get the memo that popping your collar went out with mood rings. What? You know you were thinking it too.Nicolas Cage finds himself in a dire financial situation, which was reported by Randi Kaye. Cage is blaming his money man....but that wasn't the big news in this report. Twitter was all atwitter with talk of guest Evan Bell's mustache. I read everything from 'awesome' from someone on the 360 staff, to 'did something die on that guy's face' from Lauren, to 'his mustache went out with Magnum, PI' from Wonz. Seriously, it was the highlight of the program and I was so distracted that I didn't hear a word that he or Lisa Bloom said.

After a program that did not hold my interest in the slightest I just had to upload the most absurd moment of all. Did you ever want to see an Ewok humping Al Roker's leg and Anderson Cooper enjoying the moment? Of course you did, so here it is:

Thanks to Julie I have a few extras for you Jack Gray fans. He spoke last week at the Twitter 140 Conference in LA and here are the videos of his talks:

Tuesday night on AC360 we've been promised 2 solid, action packed hours of politics and election coverage. I'm thinking I need to visit the ATA Vault for a video. Opinions? ~Phebe

Happy day Anderson is back!!! So nice to have him back in his anchor chair.

I really wish 360 would stop taking to teabagger Mark Williams. He is ridiculous and really couldn't answer what Anderson was asking him.

I really could have done without the panel about women in the workplace. It was boring and went on way too long. It is never going to change so why bother talking about it. Its just how it is. Why keep talking about something that won't change. I really hope this was the last nite of these discussions.

The Nicolas Cage thing didn't belong on 360 either. That belongs on E! or Access Hollywood. I don't know what 360 is thinking sometimes.

It was great that Anderson is back in his anchor chair, but last nite had to be the 360 from hell. None of the stories were interesting nor should they have been on the program. If they wanted them on then they should have showed them in the second hour. I am disappointed with 360 last nite. The best part of the program was during the shot when Anderson and Erica were teasing each other about their previous hairstyles. I am all for anything that brings out the Andergiggles. I also enjoyed Anderson talking about the Ewok humping Al Roker's leg.

My suggestion for the ATA vault is Anderson on R&K and he and Kelly are wearing overalls and they have those toy guns filled with slime and they're shooting them at each other.

Go to the vault! Go to the vault. Go to the vault! Woooo. Okay, you got my opinion. LOL I don't think they'll be a lot to report on tomorrow, call me crazy!

The good news - I have a nice little buzz from the cocktails it took to get through 360 tonite. The bad news - I'll be feeling it tomorrow!

Mom always says if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all so...

Good night friends!

Phebe, it could be the teacher in me, but you have "Just shot me." Didn't you mean "shoot?"
Other than that I have no words to describe 360. I couldn't believe AC saw that video of Al Roker and thought it was funny and I have to admit, I cheated a bit and switched to the competition interviewing our Secretary of State. I needed some real news.

Echoing Tedi B - go to the vault!

Following Em's mom's advice - It was good to see Anderson back in the anchor chair tonight.

I have a feeling tomorrow night's program may require hot chocolate with Butterscotch Schnapps! Good thing the weather has turned cold here!

@ACAnderFan, I wish I had that clip, it's a classic. But alas when my computer crashed I lost it and a few more irreplaceable ones. If anyone out there has a copy I'd love to have it.

@Tedi B. Any requests?

@Em, If I didn't have to blog I would have been joining you at the Anderblue martini fountain.

@judy, thank you my dear for catching my error. I need all the proof readers I can get.

Loved hearing Larry King toss to Anderson Cooper again, but the show...that idiot Mark Williams, the uber-annoying Suze Orman, the devious poker woman from TAR and the repulsive Nic Cage? Ugh. 360 still needs that overhaul, but I'm not seeing any signs that they're working on it. However, as shallow as it may be, I did enjoy The Shot and AC's endearingly juvenile reaction to the indecent Ewok.

360 stared out well Monday night with Tom Foreman's report about the political races being decided tomorrow and the broohaha over NY's 23rd district. But then Mark Williams bogged down the panel and that wsa a shame because Roland Martin looked like he wanted to keep it smart and professional but Williams wouldn't let him.

I wasn't that interested in the 'women and wages' report and didn't want to see Suze Orman so I changed the channel. I might have stuck around if I knew Maria Ho from the Amazing Race was there. I liked her on the race and was sorry to see her go.

I watched the Nicholas Cage report and panel and was distracted not by that guy's mustache but by thinking about this topic seems to be right up Orman's alley but they didn't ask her to be a part of it.

Anderson liked The Shot way more than I did.

Requests from the Vault? Do you have any videos of Anderson from his ABC News days? I've only seen a couple photos but if you had any videos from that time period that would be awesome.

Am watching the repeat of 360 at 5 AM and while I am not interested in most of the show the boys club panel and the Nick Cage story I found interesting.

Why didn't CNN take questions from viewers for the panel discussion, that would have made it more interesting and get the average female viewer involved. As for Nick Cage all I can say is that this has been going on for years, not just with celebrities, but average people like me, can you say Bernie Madoff.

So now my negative comment - one of the regular posters on this blog made comment that they were tired of all the news about the H1N1 virus, well I feel bad for you I do not consider getting news out bad if it stops the death of anyone especially children.

Yeah, the civil rights movement was just a big waste of time -- let's all accept inequitable treatment wherever we see it & stop complaining -- damn uppity women!

@Jaanza, good suggestion, something from AC's days at ABC would be nice. I think we're in for a long boring 360 tonite. The only upside being that at least we won't get another too long and boring discussion on womens issues and we won't get another Nicolas Cage piece.

@Aries Moon, I love Anderson's juvenile reactions to things. I think it makes him endearing.

@ff I don't think our fellow commentator intended to come off as "uppity" with her comment. I think she was expressing the apathy and frustration many women feel when it comes to the "good ol boy network." I was a young woman at the height of the civil rights movement and am now nearing the end of my career with the glass ceiling still firmly in place. In fact, just this week I found out one of the men on my team who has the same job title and 15 years less experience is making $6.00 per hour more than I am. Seems he was hired in a higher wage. However, when I was hired 26 years ago, everyone started at the same wage. Today, through bonuses and perks nearly each of the men I began my career with makes more than I do. Funny thing is until our employer made wages public this year, I never had a clue these men were receiving extra bonuses and higher wages. It was a well kept secret. In case you are wondering, I have received outstanding evaluations my entire career (and thought bonuses were based on said evaluations). I have worked my rear end off to keep up with the guys and be an involved mother in the process. Although there are "high power" women out there like those on the panel, much has not changed for the average women. We still make 75 cents to every $ our male counterparts bring home. I would also have liked to hear what those women felt they had to sacrifice to get where they are. Saying women need to change, women need to take charge is pretty easy. Could ust be me but what I heard from most of the panel was that if I acted more like a man, I would get ahead. DeeDee is the only person on the panel who even hinted that maybe what is valued in our society needs to change. Some of us live in areas and work in fields where change is very, very slow to come. Do I think we should stop talking about it and demanding equality-No! Do I understand why women are apathetic-yes! Ironically, I think the women most weary of beating on that ceiling are probably the least "uppity" women out there.

Hi Phebe, Once more I totally agree with you, and with most of you fellow bloggers as well, as evidenced by my morning email to AC360. I didn't receive an auto-reply; I wonder if the producers even read viewer email. It certainly looks like our opinions are ignored. I felt a total lack of interest in the show last night, and no emotion whatsoever. I couldn't absorb the content. And this after taking a 30-day break from watching! About the Ewok thing, AC has a very different sense of humor from many people in his general age group, like myself, but I suppose that's what makes him so unique. I only tuned in again because I missed watching him. Now I'm just hoping every day that CNN gives him a show he's passionate about that showcases his talents. Something totally new. And I guess the 360 crew are doing the 2-hour election coverage for their own entertainment. They're sure not paying attention to viewer interests.

I missed Anderson's return last night because I conked out - long exhausting day. Thank you for posting the shot - OMG, that was the best one in ages!! I'm with Anderson, I'd DVR the Today show if it had those Ewoks on it all the time. I'd love to see them reek havoc on Hoda and Kathy Lee LOL!!

I caught Erica on Saturday in her Poison get up, it was awesome. She reminded me of one of the chicks from Vixen (remember them? yikes, I'm old).

I was trying to keep Em's mom's advIice, "If you can't say anything nice..." But now I feel the need to step up on my soapbox....

I echo Em is feeling that the commentator didn't intend to come off as uppity. To me that's how Suze Orman comes off -- and pretty much any time her face pops up, I tune out. (Her comment that we shouldn't care what other people think of us, just isn't consistent with my core belief. Or is it a world I want to live in.) A "personal finance expert" should be helping clients individually, not trying to sell her books on TV. Personal finance is just that -- personal. No one fix for all. My problem with the segment wasn't the topic, but with the panelists. A professional poker player - really? Just how common is the profession of poker player? I liked Dee Dee Myers' comments and also, Dr. Firlik's -- but if the panel needed to be expanded, how about a woman with a high management position in a corporation and maybe someone in the education field -- more common professions. And I agree with whoever said, take quesions from viewers. In other words - forget the celebs on the panel (including those Erica referred to in her lead in) and keep it relatable to the average viewer.

@twitterbird -- I think the H1N1 topic has been overdone on 360. There have been a couple of informational segments that were good -- but most only helped build fear. I believe the decision to get the vaccine is between an individual and his/her doctor. Again, it's not a one size fits all situation -- giving information about shortages of vaccine, etc. only help build fears. The best source of information is your local health department. They will know if/when the vaccine is available in your area, when/where clinics will be held, etc. (I really didn't need to know what states had reported school closings due to H1N1 - last week with John King and his magic wall - I already knew that a school in my area had been closed that week from my local news outlet -- and besides, my state wasn't listed as having a school closing, so the information given was not accurate.)

As far as the Nic Cage story - I'm not certain even Anderson saw the need for the segment - as he said that not too many people were going to relate to a movie star loosing his money. I don't think many viewers actually have business manageers, let alone numerous houses around the world we may have to sell. The bottom line is as Lisa Bloom said - everyone is responsible for their taxes, etc. If you are going to hire a business manager - you better uderstand what that business manager is doing. Reports of investments should be monthly. You need to sign tax forms at least once a year - and I'm guessing quarterly at his level of income. If your investments are growing at an astronomical rate (Bernie Maddoff) red flags should go off. If your investments are not growing at all, read falgs should go off. This is basic financial common sense. If your passing all your responsibilities off to another, your either lazy, not real bright, or both.

Okay - stepping off my soap box now... thanks for reading.

ACAnderfan and to whoever's in charge of the vault - I should clarify when I say ABC News I mean when he was a reporter for ABC News and not an anchor on WNN. I know he did some reports from Moscow in that time period but there's scant little out there from this time in Anderson's career.

Em - that totally sucks about you being paid less than a less-experienced male co-worker. Did you, did other women at the school, make a big stink about it? Even a little stink?

MichellenLomita - I don't think CNN will be broadcasting election coverage "for their own entertainment" but I do think they have lost focus on what viewers really want. Tonight I fully expect a big election report but I'd also appreciate news about what else is going on. Unfortanetely, they are going to take the election news and cover every single angle they can find, slice and dice the results as much as possible and find the wackiest pundits possible, pair them with sane pundits, to debate what it all means.

Makes me wish for a 'Mole" marathon on FOXRC.

OK, TVNewser just verified what we regulars knew to be true about last nite's show. It was truly awful. Except for the fact that AC was back, the content was.....what can I say that hasn't been said?
He scored lower than low in totals, lower than anyone in the CNN prime line up and it really saddens me because we all know he can do better but maybe he just doesn't care anymore.

LMAO, Phebe, I giggled like crazy when I saw that my comment made it into your post...I impulsively tweeted you because I just couldn't believe what I saw. What guy thinks that kind of a mustache is attractive?!

Before I go on, I have to say that I would *never* be opposed to seeing something out of the vault. Whenever you feel the need, Phebe, because it's your readers who benefit. :)

That said...*small voice* I'm excited for the political coverage. I know, I know. I'm weird, and a political junkie, and my opinion should certainly not be used as a measuring stick. But I really, really love Election Day and I always look forward to this stuff. But I totally understand why most people can't take two hours of politics unless it's a seriously exciting election like last year.

I thought the Ewok Shot was funny, but I'm easily entertained. I find it extremely funny when things go wrong on live television (have you all seen the bloopers from the live commercials they used to do in the Ed Sullivan/young Johnny Carson days? Too hilarious!) and I guess someone like Anderson who does at least five hours of live TV per week would find it even funnier, in a "better him than me!" kind of way.

Happy Election Day! <3 VOTE VOTE VOTE!
