Anderson Cooper opened AC360 by saying, "Tonight, we're live in Port-au- Prince 'Keeping Them Honest.' Thousands of people are spending yet another night in darkness in plastic, tarp-covered shelters, more permanent, but very much like they were six months ago. We're still trying to understand why exactly that is, why more than 1.5 million people are living this way after so many people, so many organizations and governments either rushed to help or promised to."

From the Huffington Post: Anderson Cooper Receives Medal From Haiti Government
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — Haiti's president handed out medals to celebrities, aid-group directors and politicians for post-earthquake work Monday in a ceremony designed to beat back criticism of an uneven recovery that has left 1.6 million people homeless and destitute six months to the day since the disaster.Twenty-three honorees – including actor Sean Penn, CNN anchor Anderson Cooper and the head of the U.N. peacekeeping mission – crossed a podium in front of the crushed, unrepaired national palace to steady applause. Some smiling, some solemn, each received medals and certificates deeming them Knights of the National Order of Honor and Merit.
CNN's Cooper, who spent parts of January and February in Haiti following the quake and had not returned since, said he found out about the award while getting ready to board his plane to Haiti on Sunday.
"I thought a long time about not accepting it. We finally came to the opinion that it was recognition by the country for all journalists," he told resident reporters after the ceremony. "I don't think this in any way impacts the desire or willingness to be critical of the government."

Scientology:
Earlier this year Anderson Cooper took a look at Scientology, interviewing former members of the sect and current leaders of the group. The investigation was over a year in the works, partially because of a lawsuit that Scientology filed against CNN trying to prevent the airing of the series. This week Scientology published an attack on their former members who spoke with 360 and included a weak attempt aimed at discrediting AC. If you are interested in reading some of their hateful message you’ll have to do a Google search on your own, we’re not going to promote their foolish rantings. If you want to learn more about the series here are links to our ATA posts on the nights that it aired.

BLOGGER'S COMMENTARY:
The above showed up on my Twitter page, from Neil Hallsworth, Anderson's photographer. I must say it made me a bit sad to hear today that Anderson would be leaving Haiti - I was hoping he'd stay a week. The last two night's in Haiti have been very informative and engaging programs, but I guess it's time for Anderson and AC360 to move on. A little bird (think Twitter/Tweet) told me that Anderson will be in NOLA tomorrow night and another little bird tweeted that the program was going to be half Haiti half Gulf tomorrow. I'm hoping that the Mr. Cooper that was in Haiti the last two nights is the same Mr. Cooper that shows up in NOLA tomorrow night & I hope that Anderson and AC360 continue to bring us reports from Haiti. ~ Wonz.

I read the crappy "magazine" about Anderson and CNN from the "CHURCH" of Scientology and to me, it was laughable. It goes to show you how their PR machine works, which is to be petty, immature and full of obvious falsehoods. They throw the same crap that they claim others throw at them. They also twist and turn words and situations around to suit them and go against their enemies. They truly are a frightening bunch of people and many who have crossed them in the past have been threatened.
Seriously scary!
I didn't watch much of 360 last nite but what I saw I liked. Very good reports by Sanjay and Gary. I think its ridiculous that those kids were starving in that orphanage and yet there was food just down the street.
Thank you ATA for posting the videos. We just had a typhoon here in Manila and haven't had power for almost 24 hours, so I missed AC360. I wasn't worried that I would miss it because I knew you were going to cover it. I always rely on ATA for AC. Thanks again.
Also, I've noticed the AC360 team seem to have a "uniform" now. They're either in a blue top, khaki pants or vise versa or with jeans.
That whole church of scientology thing is hysterical. I really don't care what church or religion you are subscribed to, they are all nuts when it is all said and done. It does seem like a cowardly act to attack someone 4 months later and not doing it face-to-face, instead they dedicated an entire issue of your magazine to trashing him. And then to hand it out in front of where he works while he is not even in the country, should tell you all you need to know about these people and their cult. And if people want real "freedom" they would ditch their church and religion and never look back. That's just how I feel about it.
I don't understand the whole handing out of the metals when there is still dead bodies buried, people still dieing left and right, the countless of homeless and a county still very deep in despair. Maybe they should of done it when the county was somewhat back on its feet, just seems like bad timing to me.
And to the poster that said "in EVERY instance I gave a hefty donation": It doesn't take much to pick up the phone and dial a few numbers in the comfort of your home. But to criticize a person for helping another person who is actually out there on the front lines really says a lot about you, nor does that take much effort either. And don't think I only see Anderson through rose colored glasses either cause I don't. But that's neither here or there.
If Monday night 360 was good last night was great. I really liked Dr. Gupta's report on the orphanage. I hope we will continue to see the very same charged and energetic Cooper & Co rest of this week and always..
@Pebbles, when I saw Coop, Gupta and then Ivan in grey/blue and Khaki, that's exactly what came to my mind :) they're all matching their outfits :)
Great recap. I'm wondering why CNN went to such expenses to send AC & Co. all the way to Haiti for two days? Has anyone heard the answer to that? I definitely agree they made a promise to stick w/the Gulf, but IMO it was a waste of time to send Anderson to Haiti when Gary, Sanjay & Ivan could have done just as well. Oh well, I've given up trying to make sense of CNN a long time ago!!
I totally agree with Tedi B.
Also, I think that Anderson and friends did a great job these last couple of days.
Keep up the great work whereever U go!
Kathy
It would've been great if AC360 could've spent a longer time in Haiti, but they did manage to put together some good and in some cases, very disturbing reports. It's sad to see that the people in Haiti are still dealing with inept and possibly corrupt officials who aren't making the well being of their citizens a top priority--plus, the miscommunication and lack of coordination between aid groups is not helping matters. I hope AC360 can return to Haiti for more updates. Thanks for the nice pics and clips.
Joe Johns-Deadbeat donors-BRILLIANT. No ranting or complaining. Just great reporting. And keeping them honest.
I read the article connected to the HP Scientology story. They were completely serious in everything they said about Anderson, but it was the funniest thing I've read in sometime. If you won't get too offended. Take the time and see how ridiculous they are. The strong need to defend themselves against a report that I would think many people didn't see or care about is questionable to me.
Twitter comments are saying that the work we saw in Haiti didn't truly start until they heard that Anderson was coming(dump trucks). I don't know how true that is but if that's what it took (as sad as that is) and they continue to work, his trip wasn't for nothing.
These last two nights in Haiti have been some of the best AC360's we've seen since the original earthquake coverage. I was touched by Gary Tuchman’s follow up story about the seniors, as I was by so many other reports. After seeing Dr. Gupta’s story the cynic in me wondered just how soon that orphanage’s pantry would be empty again because of workers and others pilfering the children's food? I’m grateful that CNN has stayed committed to Haiti even though it was not a ratings success. I hope we can see a similar energy and enthusiasm as the 360 team returns to NOLA.
Very glad to see that Sean Penn did not dominate the program. If he had, I would have used the remote again.
Last nite was a lot better than the nite before and I love it when Gary Tuchman is involved with children. You can tell he really relates to them and knows how to be a good parent.
Sanjay was more than helpful, getting on his cell in order to relinguish the supply of food that had been stored away for months, to the hungry orphans.
I think calling out the nations that "could not," give as was promised... "deadbeat donors" was wrong. Someone should remind 360 and their inempt producers that there is a "global recession." The US can only afford so much, and no more. Yes, we are well off compared to other countries, but we got that way, by NOT waiting for others to help us. I'm a bit sad that my donaiton probably didn't get where it was supposed to go anyway....but at least I know I GAVE...which is more than I can say for those that just complain about those posters who give "constructive criticism" of the show and then do nothing.
And speaking of "constructive criticism," I too feel that awards were premature. Why? Haiti remains in ruins while they wade through all the red tape and can't even get food from point A to point B.
Glad AC is leaving Haiti and his ratings prove my point.
@Phebe: To say that Haiti was "not a success, ratings wise," is an understatement.
If Wolf can pull a 700 in totals and AC360 can only manage a 480, Anderson better hop a plane real quick, because "the country has moved on." While I'm not saying this is right, or maybe I am, reality has taken over and we can no longer endulge in doing for others as freely as we used to.
Tradegies have befallen the United States, and there were few that actually, "opened their wallets or their hearts," to help us.
A reminder: Charity begins at home, especially when millions are unemployed.
