Anderson Cooper began tonight's primarily pre-taped 360 with "Good evening. Tonight, the latest on the skirmish on the battle on the border. The fight over how to secure the country, stop illegal immigration and enforce the law. It's been going on for decades. It's heating up yet again."

360 should win an award for wasting air time. They do it better than anyone else. These "friday nite specials" are nothing but a re-hash of the week and a waste of air time. If Anderson doesn't want to work on fridays that's fine but at least get a sub to anchor a live program.
I agree with ACAnderFan, Anderson's entitled to his day off regardless of how I (I prefer that he be on live Fridays) or anyone else feels about it but at least bring in a sub like MSNBC does--I watched Countdown and Maddow and their subs had the day's news and new reports, not a rehash. I would watch 360 even if they used a sub I don't particularly care for. I just want LIVE news on Friday night. If other networks can do it, why can't they? But sadly it looks as if they've found a formula that works for them and they're sticking with it.
@Judy, regarding your comment on the other thread, unfortunately I've become really troubled with some of Anderson's recent political reporting for exactly the reasons you state.
So they are paying Randi and a crew to be live in NOLA, they are paying Tom Foreman and a crew to be live in NYC (or wherever he was), Seems to me the only one off is Anderson the highest paid one there so unless they are cutting his salary to work 4 days a week, the objective if a 4 day week is not money but to accommodate Anderson.
Why can't Randi sub? Or Tom? ????
If they are trying figure out what to do with the program, still doesn't explain a taped Friday.
I am disappoted in this friday rehash shows. I dont watch them at all. same ole same ole.IMO
Kathy
I used to make my plans around making sure I was home to see 360. I don't do that anymore, especially on Friday since Anderson is no longer on on Friday.
I'm not so certain Anderson took a pay cut in relation to his four-day work week. He is still a huge part of CNN's prime-time and a major "face" of the network. The guy has enough clout to get a reduced schedule at the same salary. With Larry King leaving, CNN is going to do all they can to keep Anderson and keep him happy, even if that means they get him live only Monday - Thursday.
While we here on ATA aren't happy with it, maybe the ratings in general didn't decrease enough for CNN to change the Friday clip shows. And maybe it is just for the summer.
It'll be interesting to see what will happen in the Fall when Lawrence O'Donnell starts at 10 pm on MSNBC. Will Anderson show up for work on Fridays? At least for a while? O'Donnell is a smart guy but he doesn't have Olbermann's bite or Anderson's sex appeal. Nevertheless I could see his program making an impact and taking some viewers away.
While Anderson's forte has been field reporting, it was terrific seeing him back in the studio this week. He was in top form and there were some great reports; Gary Tuchman's stand out for me.
Unfortunately, I didn't tune in on Friday to see them again.
I could see a 4 day week for Anderson when he was on location...with a live sub filling in on Fridays, but to continue this when he's back in the studio is ridiculous.
I admit I used to be a huge AC fan, but not so much anymore. I don't care to hear the same storyline rehashed for weeks on end. Do the story, do it well and then move on, unless something new comes up that pertains to it.
I really like Lawrence O'Donnell. I've watched him as a guest and sub host on MSNBC for a few years. He's interesting and on point. I will definitely be watching his new show.
I still am inclined to think Anderson is "Using" his days. This is only speculation on my part. I'm certain they're given a specific number of days off and AC has been at the network a good long while for him to have accumulated leave. I doubt if he renegotiated his contract or used his clout in order to use them. Many companies have a "use them or lose them clause." Wolf has been off the whole week, but in his case they always have a substitute.
I'm quite certain the sub/anchors are paid extra, so maybe it just doesn't pay in AC's case.
Did not watch the taped AC show. CNN has to realize, despite AC's loyal fan base, most regular viewers are news junkies and want LIVE NEWS with a live anchor. But we're talking CNN here. Nothing is ever realized until it smacks them in the face and it will.....this fall.
I think they should get Randi Kaye to fill in for Anderson on Fridays. I'm really getting sick of this whole recap Friday mess.
