Talk Show Memories 12/29/19

Anderson Cooper has appeared on the Ellen Degeneres Show several times. This first set of clips is from March 2009:

part 1

part 2

part 3

And in a remote from Haiti in January of this year (2010)

And this one is from October 2010:

I love when Ellen holds up the pic of AC and Sharon Osbourne says she wants to have sex with him. I don't know how many times I've seen that but I still crack up every time I see it.

It boggles the mind that Anderson can do this much good, after seeing the clips of Haiti and his talk with Ellen about bullying, and yet his ultimate ambition, after all he's achieved, is to become, of all things....a talk show host.
People who have absolutely no talent at all, like Piers Morgan and Kathyrn Parker become talk show hosts. People who have achieved award status for journalism don't go backwards and become talk show hosts.
Both Ellen and Jon Stewart are in a different category. They are both comics first and talk show hosts second, and they are not award winning journalists and I admire them both. There is something wrong with Anderson's logic. If you have a talent, which he does, he should not be wasting it....but that's his decision and JMO.

I'm still wondering how he is going to juggle being a talk show host in the daytime and a CNN anchor of his own show at night. And I agree with Judy. He has a lot of talent, particularly disaster reporting and writing. I wouldn't like AC360 to become a lesser priority for him. The flip side is that being a talk show host requires a skill set that I'm not sure he has. He normally works with Kelly Ripa on Live, and she is a pro at what she does. He needs a partner to work with on his day time show. I will need convincing that he can be the new 'Oprah.

@judy You're overstating things! It's not his "ultimate ambition" to be a talk show host.

And wow, after all the criticism he's received from commenters here on a constant basis, I'm surprised to see someone actually admit he does a good job on some things. That's very sad.

If Ellen and Jon can be comics first and talk show hosts second, can't Anderson be a journalist first and talk show host second, and still do a good job that way?

Don't get me wrong, I hope he'll focus on journalism. It's his passion (don't even start, folks.) and what I like him doing the most, much as I enjoy Anderson and Kelly, etcetera. I don't know how this show will work out, but I'm not going to write it off immediately just because it's a talk show. I'll see how it goes, it has potential. If it sucks, then I'll be sad about it, but starting that now seems way too early for me.

@7:14PM: Sorry, but if it still was his "passion," he wouldn't be doing a talk show.
He'd continue doing field work which is what he became famous for, not talking to celebrities no one cares about.

Ellen and Jon Stewart and not juggling three different shows.
They're doing it all in one.
That's a big difference!

@12.40 Because if something is your passion, that's all you can ever do or else you don't care after all? Ridiculous.

He does do field work, quite a lot for that he's an anchor and not a reporter, and he's always interviewed celebrities.

@1.28 I can see it happen that handling 3 shows might mean AC will be spreading himself too thin. But again, the show hasn't even started yet. And you all seem convinced it will be awful, almost gleefully theorizing on just exactly why this won't work, with very little info to go by to boot. I'm not convinced I'll like it either, but at least want to see the actual thing before I spent comment after comment judging.

And how many shows Jon and Ellen have has nothing to do with what judy said and I responded to. What she basically said was Ellen and Jon are talented despite being talk show hosts who she generally considers talentless, because they're in a different catogory being comics first. What I'm saying is that AC can perhaps do the same except be a journalist first.

But anyway, I'm not going to waste any more time on this. The comment area on this site has been void of most positivity for ages now, I doubt there's anything I can say that'll change that.
