Fan Vids

Here are just a few of the fan videos that we have received from ATA readers over the years. Apologies to the people who aren't credited, unfortunately we didn't do a very good job of keeping track of who submitted what.
Enjoy.

Anderson Cooper began tonight's primarily pre-taped 360 with "Good evening. Tonight, the latest on the skirmish on the battle on the border. The fight over how to secure the country, stop illegal immigration and enforce the law. It's been going on for decades. It's heating up yet again."

Battle on the Border

Anderson Cooper began Thursday's AC360 with an overview of the days biggest stories. He said "Tonight, Shirley Sherrod said she will sue Andrew Breitbart, the man who first put the edited video tape of her on line, but new questions are being raised online about her background. We'll have more on that later.
We begin tonight with the battle over illegal immigration. Keep'in them honest, the battle on the border. Protests still going on in Arizona this evening. Through out the day we have seen these images. Protesters blocking streets near Phoenix City Hall, tying up traffic and light rail service, several dozen people arrested there. The States new immigration law went into effect today. A tough law, minus its toughest provisions, which were blocked by a Federal judge."

AC360 on Wednesday July 28th

Anderson Cooper opened tonight's program by saying "Larry, thanks very much, breaking news tonight in the battle on the border. In just a few hours Arizona's controversial immigration law goes into effect minus it's most controversial requirements. Federal District Judge Susan Bolton today blocking a number of key provisions, for instance, the requirement that police check the immigration status of people they stop if there is a reasonable suspicion they are in the country illegally. The judge said that is the Federal government's business, not the states. Also, she blocked the portion of the law that would allow police to arrest someone without a warrant when there is probable cause to believe they've committed an offense they could be deported for. In addition, Bolton blocked the provision s making it a crime for lawful immigrants, citizens, not to carry their papers, and making it a crime for legal immigrants to solicit, apply for or perform work. The Justice Department today applauding the decision, Arizona's Governor however, did not."

All Is Right With The World

After 8 weeks Anderson Cooper was back in his New York City studio anchoring Tuesday's edition of AC360. He opened the program with "Tonight stunning news from the Gulf. The Coast Guard saying it can't find much more oil to collect. With hundreds of boats in the water yesterday they said they only recovered 1 barrel's worth of oil. One barrel! So where is the oil? Are the dispersants and Mother Nature breaking it up faster than anyone thought?"

The program opened with a prerecorded segment at the magic wall aimed at keeping BP honest by outlining their mistakes and their dishonestly in dealing with the Gulf disaster.

EXTRAS:
A few weeks ago we posted the speech that AC gave at the LA Press Club event when he received his award. The audio was terrible, as many of you pointed out. Finally we've come across a much better copy.

BLOGGER'S COMMENTARY:
I’m sure the old phrase 'God's in his heaven, all's right with the world' is a stretch when associated with AC being back in the NYC studio, but it does convey how right tonight’s AC360 felt to me. I’ve spent eight long weeks (actually 7 + 1 vacation week) watching Cooper stand in a park in NOLA talking with Billy Nungesser, James Carville, et all and kvetching at BP. I loved the Gulf disaster coverage at first but as the weeks wore on it became obvious that it was time for 360 to head home. The variety of news in Tuesday's program proved that point. The report by Gary Tuchman from the border, the discussion of the Utah Supreme Court decision (hell yes it was politically motivated) the return of Beat 360 and The Shot (remember to check out ATA on Sunday night for the Shot(s) of the week) and yes, even the low rise jeans standing at the magic wall all combined into one of the best 360’s of the year. So welcome home AC, all’s right with the world. ~Phebe

Where's Waldo?

Yikes! Do not adjust your computer, it's terrible studio lighting making our favorite anchor look like a mere mortal tonight, not your computer screen settings. Anderson Cooper wasn't in NYC, or NOLA nor was he in Arizona as had been promoted last week. And we ruled out LA because when he's there we rave about the lighting and makeup. So where was Waldo? Detroit. Why was he there? Why not?

Anderson began the program as he does so many nights with breaking news. "We've learned tonight, in just a few hours, BP CEO Tony Hayward is expected to step down. Getting his wish, getting his life back and getting a golden parachute reportedly worth, get this, more than 18 million dollars. What is so stunning is that Hayward is getting a quick payoff while the people whose lives he's ruined are still waiting to be paid."
