I like John King and think he is a good substitute for Anderson.
We certainly can't have the boob tube who comes before him Erin, to "play substitute anchor."
However, If Anderson wants to connect with his audience, as HE so does on his daytime show, he should at least tell his nite time audience when he's about to take time off.
He does not have to tell us where, or with whom, it is none of our business. But it is courtesy and if he expects his viewers to be loyal, than we expect some pleasantries from him as well.
Oprah did it, and it's only fair.
That's the unspoken deal.

I don't recall ever hearing any other newscaster on the evening news announce that they would not be on the news the next evening or announce when they were taking time off for whatever reason. It just seems odd that they might do that. I think that expecting that would lead to disappointment.

Dorothy, if Anderson expects some of his nite viewers to relate to his day show, than he must find a way to connect and relate.
I don't ever remember an anchor having a daytime program, and promoting himself as much as Anderson does.
And may I just add, disappointment in what?
I'm already disappointed in his daytime shows and its content, and never watch it.

@Anon @1:33 AM - the only time I remember any newscaster telling their viewing audience that they were just about to take some days off was a local KSTP guy about 15 - 20 years ago. He was going on a fishing vacation. And it was more an informal chat with the co-anchor and the sportsguy than any real announcement.

People who watch 360 for the news will watch no matter who is anchoring . And people who watch 360 for Anderson know he deserves some time off and doesn't need to give an advance notice.

I agree with the first commenter.
Jon Stewart and Bill Maher both tell when they will be away and when they are expected back.
Yes, they are not anchors, but they both use their schedule to connect with viewers.
Jon even talks about the Jewish Holidays and when he is in LA and for what reason and neither have other TV shows.
Anderson showed us a photo of a mudbath or whatever.
If he wants to have a relationship with his viewers, he needs to make this connection on other levels.
Then again, CNN management may not want him to divulge his schedule.
Their ratings are poor enough as it is.
