From The ATA Archieves: Anderson Cooper & Stephen Colbert

Steven Colbert was a guest on 'Anderson Live' this week (a repeat episode) and it got us thinking back to Anderson's first couple of guest appearances on Stephen's show, 'The Colbert Report' ~

Anderson and Stephen from December 6, 2005 - Stephen is getting tired of all the comparisons between himself and Anderson Cooper.

In a little lighting experiment, Stephen turned Anderson green!

Wait!  There's more...

Per a reader request, we dug through the vault and found this video which was never posted on ATA ~

Anderson and Stephen from October 18, 2007 - when Stephen asks Anderson Cooper (AKA "The Silver Surfer of News") how people can help the environment without any inconvenience.  Anderson was promoting CNN's Planet In Peril.

And in the spirit of the holidays, there was the episode from January 18, 2007 when Stephen displayed his Advent Calendar and Anderson was the angel ~

Ratings for the week ended December 16th ~

From Broadcasting & Cable:
Syndication Ratings: 'Phil' Stays on Top, But 'Ellen' Ties Best Rating in Ten YearsMany syndies preempted on Dec. 14 for coverage of Newtown school shootings

News coverage of the tragic school shooting in Newtown, Conn., on Dec. 14 caused Nielsen to break out ratings for many daytime and access strips that Friday. Even though four-day averages were the norm, syndies -- and especially talk shows and magazines -- held up in the week ended Dec. 16.

CBS Television Distribution's Dr. Phil remained syndication's top talker, improving 3% from both the prior week and year to a 3.1 live plus same day household rating, according to Nielsen Media Research. Warner Bros.' Ellen took second for the fifth week in a row at a 2.9, tying the show's highest rating in its ten-year history, up 4% for the week. Ellen also notched the largest year-to-year gain of any talk show, climbing 12% from the same week last year.

In third place, Disney-ABC's Live! with Kelly and Michael rose 4% for the week to a 2.6. Sony's Dr. Oz came in fourth at a steady 2.4. NBCUniversal's Maury also was flat at a 2.2. CTD's Rachael Ray remained at a 1.4, tying NBC's conflict talkers Steve Wilkos and Jerry Springer, each of which grew 8%.

CTD's The Doctors also advanced 8% to a 1.3. Warner Bros.' Anderson Live showed some spark, hitting a new season-high 1.2, and surging 20% for the week. Debmar-Mercury's Wendy Williams was flat at a 1.1, while Jeremy Kyle added a tenth or 20% to a 0.6. Jeremy Kyle, like Anderson Live!, will end its run after this season.

Among the rookie talkers, Disney-ABC's Katie was steady for the week at a 1.8. NBCU's Steve Harvey improved 8% to a 1.4, even though it was partially in repeats. CTD's Jeff Probst was flat at a 0.7, while Twentieth's Ricki Lake dropped 14% to a new series-low 0.6, the only talk show out of 17 to decline for the week. NBCU's Trisha, meanwhile, grew 25% to a 0.5, up one-tenth of a ratings point.  Please click on link for the complete article.

NOTE:  For the same week last season, 'Anderson' had a 1.3 HH rating.

Anderson Cooper 360, Friday 12/28/12

Randi Kaye was back in the AC360 anchor chair this evening so will continue with our vintage Cooper family Christmas cards and related photos. Tonight we're sharing the Cooper family Christmas card from 1969 when Anderson was 2 ½ years old.

We're not sure just where in the Cooper abode this photo was taken but we're pretty sure this was during Gloria's 'American quilt period'.  We name it such because her extensive use of quilts in decorating and in her clothing.  Here's Gloria in a patchwork quilt robe:

She and Wyatt in quilt patterned clothing in front of the Christmas tree:

And then there were the walls, ceiling and floor of their master suite covered with American quilts: photo by Horst P. Horst from "Horst: Interiors"

And while we don't have a date for this last picture it seems to us that it was taken during this same Christmas season because Anderson looks to be around 2 ½ years old.

Anderson Cooper 360, Thursday 12/27/12

Randi Kaye was again the guest anchor for AC360 this evening so will continue with our vintage Cooper family Christmas cards and related photos. Tonight we're sharing the Cooper family Christmas card from 1968 when Anderson was 18 months old.

Here's another picture from that year, this time it's with Gloria, Wyatt and their sons in front of the family Christmas tree.

The iconic Gloria Vanderbilt swan is in the background of the Cooper families 1968 Christmas card and we found a similar swan in a McCall's home fashion book published in Spring 1967 entitled "Gloria Vanderbilt Designs For Your Home"

Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin Back to Co-Host CNN’s New Year’s Eve Coverage
Dynamic Duo Will be Live from Times Square Beginning at 10 p.m. ET
Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin are back to co-host CNN’s coverage of the New Year’s Eve celebrations on Monday, Dec. 31, from 10 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. (ET). Bringing back their fun and unpredictable New Year’s Eve countdown program for the 6th consecutive year, Cooper and Griffin will ring in the new year live from NYC’s Time Square for CNN’s “New Year’s Eve Live with Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin.”
“As always, I await New Year’s Eve with Kathy Griffin with grave reservations and tremendous fear, and I want to apologize in advance to anyone she may offend/assault/attempt to kiss” said Cooper.
“I don’t know what Anderson has been doing this past year. I assume he has been sitting, eating Bon Bons in his mother’s apartment watching reality TV, while I was helping spread democracy in Egypt or Syria or whichever” said Griffin. “Oh, and did I mention we’re giving away puppies at midnight?”
CNN correspondents will provide reports from celebrations across the country and around the world. Isha Sesay will join Cooper and Griffin from the crowds in Times Square. Correspondents John Zarrella and Gary Tuchman are on opposite ends of the East Coast, with Zarrella counting down from Key West, Florida and Tuchman from Eastport, Maine.
At 12:30 a.m (ET), Anderson and Kathy will hand off to CNN’s Brooke Baldwin at Jackson Square in New Orleans, Louisiana and HLN’s Susan Hendricks at the Hard Rock Cafe in Nashville, Tennessee for the countdown to midnight, Central time.
Viewers who tweet using #CNNNYE or post on Facebook.com/ac360, will have the chance to see their New Year’s Eve message on air. Questions for Anderson and Kathy can also be posted on the AC360 Facebook page or tweeted with the #CNNNYE hashtag and the hosts will select a few questions to answer during the show.
Leading up to “New Year’s Eve Live with Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin” will be “All the Best, All the Worst 2012,” an Anderson Cooper 360° special airing at 8 p.m. (ET). The special will count down to the new year by recounting the old one with humor, insight, and fun. CNN correspondent Tom Foreman will be joined by Isha Sesay, actress and comedian Aisha Tyler, all around smart guy Ben Stein, social and political commentator and radio host Pete Dominick, Sirius-XM’s Julie Mason, and the cake boss, Buddy Valastro. They will join Foreman in shining a spotlight on the highlights and lowlights of the past twelve months in politics, pop culture, the economy, and entertainment.

Anderson Cooper 360, Wednesday 12/26/12

Randi Kaye was the guest anchor for AC360 this evening so we dug into the vault and found some vintage Cooper related Christmas photos.  Tonight we're sharing the Cooper family Christmas card from 1967 when Anderson was 6 months old.

This next picture was posted in a Conde Nast article in the late 1960's that featured Gloria's drawing room decorated for a Christmas open house.  The carpet appears to be the same so we are assuming this was the room where the holiday card photo was taken.

This picture was part of a magazine spread in the December 1969 issue of House & Garden and it included additional pictures of the Cooper apartment decorated for the holidays.

Classic Cooper Christmas Clips

As is our tradition, here are our annual Classic Cooper Christmas Clips. It's a collection of favorite Anderson Cooper Christmas moments.

This first Christmas video teams photos of AC with Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas.

In December of 2002 Anderson sat in for Aaron Brown on NewsNight. He did a Segment titled 'Yule Be Sorry' about bad Christmas music.

Ted Allen and Carson Kressley join Anderson Cooper on the AC360 set, in December of 2003, to talk about how to make your Yuletide gay.

Another clip from December 2003, this one was entitled 'Holiday Catalog' and was part of a 'Fresh Print' segment on AC360.

And we will leave you with AC's version of Clement Moore's The Night Before Christmas
