Anderson Cooper 360 Friday, 3/29/2013
AC360 aired an "Anderson Cooper Special Report: Murder Abroad, The Amanda Knox Story" that was advertised for the 10PM ET Hour, in the 8PM ET Hour as well. Here's Anderson's introduction to the Drew Griffin investigative report ~
EXTRAS:
Wendy Williams talked about Anderson replacing Matt Lauer on her show again Thursday ~
And Wednesday night, on Piers Morgan Live, a panel and Piers discussed 'Morning Show Wars' and 'Cooper and NBC Rumors' was part of that segment ~
Here's a post from Brian Stelter's "Top Of The Morning" Blog, dated March 28th. The panel referred to Brian's book by the same name, in the above segment and in this post, he weighed in on Anderson replacing Matt Lauer ~
Optics
As word spread on Wednesday about NBC’s call to him, Anderson Cooper told his CNN staff that he wasn’t interested in co-hosting the “Today” show. He said he loved being at CNN and planned to stay there. (His contract is up in the fall.) But he has to say that, right?
At the end of my story about the succession planning in Thursday’s New York Times, I note that Cooper likes having a daily TV presence, like the one CNN provides him in prime time.
‘Today’ would provide the same thing, and a much bigger audience. But Mr. Cooper may be leery of appearing to force out Mr. Lauer. In other words: a lot of this may be about optics. About not being the bad guy. If what TMZ said is true — that “Lauer is actually on board with the idea of Anderson replacing him,” and that he “planned to have a meeting with Anderson to sit down and discuss it” — then this succession plan might actually materialize.
But when? Lauer’s contract isn’t up until the end of 2014 at the earliest. The story in today’s paper notes this:
Mr. Lauer still has millions of fans… But that has not stopped high-ranking NBC executives from wondering aloud whether they should make a change at ‘Today’ before Mr. Lauer’s contract expires. Might he ask to leave? Joe Hagan said this at the end of his New York magazine cover story this week: “There is indeed informed speculation inside NBC that Lauer could leave within the year.”

DEADLINE: HOLLYWOOD is speculating that Anderson and Kathy Griffin may be making their NYE special into a regular thing. They write:
'.....the duo filmed a pilot today at the CNN studios in the Time Warner Center in New York. Details about the hourlong project are sketchy, but I’ve learned that it had a lot of humor in it and filmed in front of a live audience — which I hear included new CNN topper Jeff Zucker.'
And while we're on the topic of Matt Lauer, Wendy Williams mentioned today on her talk show that NBC wasn't going to renew his contract, which expires later this year. Ms. Williams speculated that Lauer would possibly end up working with his old friend and co-host Katie Couric at ABC.
We here at ATA always thought that if Anderson was to jump ship it would be to CBS because of his ties to 60 Minutes. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
NORTHAMPTON, Mass.—CNN Anchor Anderson Cooper, whose newscast “Anderson Cooper 360°” is devoted to reporting in-depth stories from multiple points of view, will speak at Smith College Sunday, April 14, at 8 p.m. at John M. Greene Hall. Tickets are required and must be purchased prior to the event.

Anderson Cooper Goes Diving With Nile Crocodiles For 60 Minutes
Anderson Cooper, on assignment for 60 Minutes ~
Part 1:
Anderson Cooper: Why I went diving with crocodiles
Has Anderson Cooper gone mad? We have to admit, that was our reaction after watching Cooper dive with deadly crocodiles in dark underwater caves on the 60 Minutes broadcast this week. So, we sat down with Anderson and the two producers who sent him underwater with nothing but a little camera on a rod for protection. In this video, you'll hear what the experience was like for Anderson, and you'll see the dangerous dives weren't shown on the broadcast.
How do crocodiles kill?
Crocodiles are patient with their prey, says zoologist Adam Britton. They wait for their food to come to them. Britton describes the two ways crocs can kill and explains their signature "death roll."
Crocs and Ferraris: similar?
Crocodiles are prehistoric creatures that have been around since the time of dinosaurs. What do they possibly have in common with Ferraris, Italy's famed automobiles? Zoologist Adam Britton explains.

Anderson Cooper on 60 Minutes, Sunday 3/24/2013
Anderson Cooper dives with Nile crocodiles
They're always dangerous and usually deadly. But as Anderson Cooper finds out, underwater, the man-eating Nile crocodile can look graceful, even beautiful. His story, in which he dives with these dangerous, despised reptiles and the scientists who study them, will be broadcast on 60 Minutes Sunday, March 24 at 7:00 p.m..
The Nile crocodile has been on Earth for millions of years -- it is one of nature's oldest living predators. It's the most deadly of all crocodile species, growing up to 20 feet long, and it's known to snatch people, wildlife and livestock from the water's edge. Dr. Adam Britton, an Australian zoologist, was shocked when he first learned that filmmakers Brad Bestelink and his wife, Andy Crawford, were diving with these predators. "When I first heard about this, my instant, immediate reaction was, "That sounds crazy,'" he tells Cooper.
"I describe crocodiles as Ferrari's, they're just extremely, finely-honed creatures...just perfectly adapted to do what they do...the smartest of all the reptiles," says Britton.
Britton has been studying crocodiles for more than 18 years. He is building a genetic database on the Nile crocodile to devise ways of protecting the animal. For years, the only way to study these creatures was to capture and subdue them long enough to take samples. But that's changed. These days he's diving with crocodiles too and does his research up-close, underwater.
Bestelink and Crawford can only dive with the crocodiles during the winter months, when the water is cold and the crocs are more subdued. But by observing them underwater, they've developed a unique appreciation for the predator. "They are dappled and gold and black and you see them as more timid I think," she says. "I never used to think they were beautiful, but this is a whole different view of them."
Cooper ventures with Bestelink and Crawford down into underwater caves where these crocodiles lurk. It's murky down there, and the first thing they're able to make out are a glowing row of white teeth.
