The report on Trump tonight on AC360 was pretty much straight out of an editorial in The Chicago Tribune today. Maybe most of the staff had already left for the long holiday weekend? Tonight's show seemed pretty much thrown together with no real "news" content.

Thursday's 360 started out yet again with more on NY escaped convicts Sweat and Matt, new details on Matt's standoff with the police. I changed the channel at the start of Jason Carroll's report. Hayes was in 'And now for something completely different mode' - a live cookout setting on the rooftop, casual attire and folksy panel discussions with a variety of pundits. A little bit of is wsa serious, such as the interview with Bree Newsome (who took down the confederate flag from SC Capitol grounds) to silly, such as how great are American sports.
When I got back to 360, the topic changed to increased security in NYC for the 4th of July. Anderson interviewed James Waters of the NYPD.

The second segment, titled 'Sex, Drugs and Corruption' over Anderson's shoulder, started with a report from Randi Kaye about the Baltimore City Detention Center and how inmates are essentially 'running the place' and impregnating the guards. This was followed by a Q&A with Robin Kay Miller and Patrick Dunleavy. This segment felt like filler. It felt like Kaye's report was on the self for a while and was broadcast today because there was little "new" news on Sweat and Matt and because it was already completed. Just have to press the start button and then a simple discussion with a couple of corrections officers.

Again, Trump got his own segment. I liked Dan Simon's fact-checking on Trump's Mexican immigration comment. It would be awesome if 360 did similar fact-checking reports on the other candidates.

I did not watch the report about the shark attacks off the Carolina coasts.

Tangent: Did everyone see the commercial for "Colorama"? It's a coloring book for grown-ups and it looks just as dumb as it sounds. I was insulted this was advertised during 360; it seems more for the Honey Boo Boo crowd.

The best esgment was on Hood Cty TX clerks who won't issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. As reported by Ryan Nobles, there's been a protest and a counter-protest at the courthouse but some same-sex couples have gotten licenses.

The 'Sex, Drugs and Corruption' segment was filler. But it wasn't as bad, as extreme filler as the last segment. This was a couple minutes of Anderson's interview with Glen Campbell's wife and daughter. This was essentially a promo for the CNN special on Campbell's fight with Alzheimer's that first aired a week and a half ago.
It's like Anderson or a producer saw they needed something to put in the last few minutes but it's right before a big holiday weekend and nobody wants to work real hard. It felt like they took this weeks old interview (labelled LIVE), sliced it fo fit, ended the show and said good night.

Anonymous 12:17 wrote that the show felt "thrown together with no real "news" content:. With the exception of Ryan Nobles' segment on Hood Cty TX, I agree with that. It's like they just wanted to put the show on but not work hard to do it. However, I can understand the feeling behind it; 'put something on the air, fill the time so we can all get out of here'.
Hayes, in his own way, also checked out early for the most part. But with Hayes it was blatant that today it wasn't a serious news show, it was a backyard discussion on a couple serious topics (citizenship, the confederate flag) but also a guacamole taste test.
Anderson put on all the appearances of a serious news show. But the substance was not up to par.

Anon 12:17 also mentioned that 360 hasn't covered any news on President Obama regarding TPP or Cuba and the coverage of the ACA SCOTUS decision was pushed near the end of the show and was rather brief considering the length and number of reports on Sweat and Matt--ACA affects far more people than a couple of criminals. It's been clear for a while that 360 has little interest in covering anything the President or First Lady's involved in unless it can be served up as some sort of controversy. I've never been certain where the disdain AC360 appears to have for this current president stems from but their obvious lack of interest in reporting on his administration says a lot. If Anderson's still on the air when the next president is in office, I will be very interested in seeing how he/she gets covered on a nightly basis.

The same sex marriage report was the only one I watched on Thursday's 360.

AC360 used to be the flagship show and AC used to be its star attraction but with so many new people and an emphasis more on personality, sound bites, controversial actions, a la Don Lemon... CNN just doesn't seem to be investing much on AC360. AC appears to just be going through the motions while on the program. Crime and punishment has been the main focus. Not politics. Not keeping them honest, not gay issues until recently... not overseas stories. I don't know if AC has had his fill for doing big stories and traveling to share stories for work but AC360 is not being invested like other programs on CNN.

@ARIES MOON: I AM QUITE CERTAIN IF DONALD TRUMP IS EVER A CANDIDATE FOR THE GOP, (GOD FORBID) 360
WILL BE COVERING HIS EVERY MOVE. HE JUST MAKES VERY GOOD TELEVISION AND HE IS ENTERTAINING.
THEY WILL FOLLOW HIS EVERY MOVE WHETHER IT IS BIAS OR BIGOTED HE WILL BE THEIR LEAD STORY.
AND HILLARY WILL GET PRACTICALLY ZERO COVERAGE. WHY, NOT BECAUSE SHE IS A WOMAN BUT BECAUSE COMPARED TO "THE DONALD" SHE IS REALLY BLAND AND WHO WANTS A VERY SMART BLAND CANDIDATE TO COVER?
NOBODY, NOT 360 OR FOX NEWS, THE NY TIMES OR THE NY POST. DONALD TRUMP IS THE BEST THING TO HAPPEN TO 'NONSENSE JOURNALISM' SINCE JOURNALISTS STOPPED INVESTIGATIVE REPORTING IN THE LAST DECADE.

Trump is a character. As I said before he is entertaining. What's interesting is he is still being himself even when running for President. I think he will drop out eventually. He knows he won't be the nominee but right now in the early stages he is the gift that keeps on giving. He's too rich to give a damn about losing a few business deals. I suspect when his pools go down enough he will drop out and I doubt he will be a so called contender before first caucus. Enjoy the laughter of a complete Non politically correct real, business mogul, buffoon.

@Anon 9:34 pm, you're right although Hillary Clinton is beating all the other presidential candidates by double digits, she's almost become old news and the press doesn't seem to be as interested in her in the early stages of the campaign. Trump is a fool and a clown (except when it comes to getting publicity) and is a walking soundbite and that's all the media cares about these days. There are other more serious sources of news available to people to explore as Trump dominates the broadcast/cable news. I don't find Trump entertaining because I know he's playing to an audience who REALLY agrees with the vile things he spouts out and that's scary and depressing. I wonder what the billionaire conservative class who continue to spend money on Jeb Bush and Scott Walker think about Trump--will the Koch Brothers, Rupert Murdoch and Sheldon Adelson try to shut Trump up if it seems he's doing irreparable damage to the GOP and firing up the left? Trump doesn't think he has to answer to anyone but those dark money right wing billionaire donors are desperate to win the White House in 2016 and don't want anyone jeopardizing that. Meanwhile, President Obama is kicking behinds and taking names these days--he's upbeat and having a fine time touting his record and mocking Republicans and their dumb policy ideas--I'm really enjoying POTUS as he nears the end of his days in the White House.
