Anderson Cooper 360 on Tuesday, August 11, 2015

Anderson Cooper anchored an expanded two hour edition of AC360 from the NYC studio on Tuesday evening.  Much of the two hours was on "The Donald".   There was a segment on Hillary Clinton with Paul Begala one of the panelists:

Tuesday's BREAKING NEWS was Hillary Clinton giving her private computer server to the Justice Department for the e-mail investigation. Anderson started the show with this news... for 10 seconds. Then he switched to Trump and didn't get back to this BREAKING NEWS for 45 minutes.
Trump was talking again. He was giving a speech at a campaign stop in Michigan, his first since the GOP debate last Thursday. 360 broadcast five or six minutes of the speech. Trump was babbling about a variety of topics - women's issues, immigration, Jeb - but at one point he ranted about the distrustful media. Trump had been recorded stating "The American dream is dead" and Trump said he didn't say that, the media is bad and it seemed like he was going to say something like 'they edited out the rest of my sentence'. Nope. Instead Trump veered off to another topic.
Anderson talked to Sara Murray who was at Trump's speech. Then the panel started. Gloria Borger, Dana Bash and Ana-Malika Henderson talked about Trump's alleged recent mellowness, his policy issues and the other GOPers. However they never mentioned today's news on Rick Perry's campaign running out of money.
John King was on for a minute to show the latest poll numbers from Iowa and New Hampshire. Trump is leading in both states but King gave a chunk of attention to Carly Florina, who's up quite a bit.

The second segment had a lengthy clip from Chris Cuomo's interview with Trump followed by Anderson's interview with Trump guy Michael Cohen. I watched Hayes who had a political pundit on who did mention Perry's money problems.

David Gergen and Michael Gerson talked to Anderson about Trump, his relationship with the rest of the GOP and the chances he'll run as an independent. I didn't watch the whole segment.

As stated earlier, 45 minutes into 360 Anderson covered the Hillary Clinton news. The panel was Paul Begala and Jeff Zeleny. Begala had some great comments regarding MA Gov. Romney and his aids destroying their servers before he left that office and saying if Republicans weren't having a huge fit about Hillary's e-mails they'd be making a fit and a scandal over something else about her. Anderson never followed-up on Begala's points but simply asked Zeleny the next question.

The last segment of the first hour was about Ferguson MO and the video of a man with a gun whom police state was shooting at them. Sara Sidner had the details.

As usual, I didn't watch the second hour and tomorrow I'll watch the second Begala video and the video from Seth Meyers.

A few months ago, I wrote Anderson hardly ever covered politics and he should. Thanks to Trump, that has changed. I would be a lot happier with 75% of 360 being about politics if it covered more politicians, not just Trump.

There are a lot of conservative/Tea Party types who still believe that Anderson and CNN in general were in the tank for candidate Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012--I don't remember Anderson being as engaged or as enthusiastic about President Obama back then as he clearly is now with Trump. AC will challenge anyone who has an unfavorable opinion about Trump and his chances in 2016--AC is nearing "Trump for President" cheerleading status at this point on 360. There was a moment in the show when AC talked about how surprised he was that Rand Paul took a swipe at Trump's children--AC sort of criticized Rand for that but I don't recall a single time that Anderson admonished anyone in the GOP for the numerous times they bad-mouthed President Obama's daughters and he remained silent when Paul Begala pointed out that Jeb Bush trashed Chelsea Clinton. It's been surprising and mostly disappointing to see Anderson heap so much undeserved praise on a dangerous buffoon like Donald Trump merely because Trump has a big mouth and isn't 'politically correct'. AC seems to like that Trump fights back hard against his critics. I just hope for the country's sake that the voters fight back against Trump and never let him see the inside of the White House. I see Trump as giving a voice to the racist, sexists, homophobes and all-purpose bigots who never got over their anger of losing the White House to an African-American man--I'm tired of hearing the excuse that these Trump supporters are angry at Washington, they're angry that demographics are not in their favor and they're a dying breed and that the black man won the presidency TWICE and that they may not be able to dominate the elections like they did in the past. I thought Anderson was smarter than this but he's allowing himself to be bamboozled by a blowhard idiot who has yet to provide a smidgen of substance or policy ideas--AC doesn't care about that--he just makes excuses for Trump. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have given Obama the same treatment if HE had done that when he was a candidate.

I'll get around to watching AC on Seth, but I'm too annoyed to do it now.

As soon as the show opened. There was a Trump rally and AC cut to that for about 15 minutes. Trump entertained the crowd, brought up some regular talking points, immigration, trade, jobs. He attacked Jeb Bush, which I don't mind haha. Trump is anything, he's a showman. He can't be President, I wouldn't vote for him but he is a showman. Next were various discusses and panels about Trump. AC again admitting how much Trump has brought so much more interest to him personally. Much of the hour was about Trump, AC interviewed Cohen with them both of course tooting Trump's horn. I only watched the first hour. Bernie sanders was ignored and Hillary was only brought up to discuss her turning over her server for one investigations to try to pin her down and make her look bad in my opinion. One of the panelist, Paul who is a Clinton support did a good job in explaining that republicans are doing anything to try to discredit Hilary. There is a double standard with her and she can't get away what republicans can. 360, AC continues to favor republicans, Trump but at least they have a dem representative now. It maybe one dem surrogate out of 6 or 7 republicans but at least there's one to bring in a democratic perspective. Ac360 mine as well go to Fox. Seriously. Someone mentioned about AC making good comments about Kelly, that she has made some ridiculous comments about race. One I remember is that she believes Santa Clause is "white" hmmmmm, I had no idea Santa Clause is a real live human being. Am I wrong? Isn't saint nick a fictional character? That was a pretty stupid comment and definitely lowers her credibility. Then she says, "Jesus was white" well unless she was around thousands of years ago how would she know that? Also as typical with Fox anchors, commentators she isn't pro marriage equality or gay rights. But AC is willing to overlook that or doesn't care as long as a Republican is in office to look after the 1 percent and less taxes for people like him and Trump, Romenyhood. AC360 had quick segments on Ferguson. I admit I'm tired of hearing about that. They also ignored President Obama interview over the weekend. No surprise there. I skipped the second hour as I have seen before the second hour basically reports on the same things from the first....

I don't think its Obama's skin color as much. As he is not just black but white too. He is biracial. I'm triracial Scottish, english, african and navajo american. I think people who are of mixed backgrounds need to be identify as such. But I don't think its the fact he's half black as it is that he's a democract and the most liberal one at that. Does the fact he has African ancestry play a role in the dislike for him, absolutely I believe that. No doubt. But I think the fact he is a democrat trying to help those in need they despise more than anything. The health care law really set up a fire in people's, gop dislike. When Obama was a candidate and first came into the white house AC360 ans AC did cover him more favorably. But it quickly fizzled especially when Obama wasn't pushing harder on gay issues or moving the country fast enough in a certain direction than 360 wanted. Then tea party came to rise and 2012 elections came and 360 certainly favored Romney and gop run more than Obama. AC rarely did a Romney keeping them honest and push Romney's campaign harder. I think AC and CNN are against Obama tax policies that will see them do a little more and certainly are against that. AC is as he admits very frugal as it is. Despite spending millions on real estate the last decade or more. AC and one percent don't want their earnings touched more than what it is. He did very well on the recession, after the recession and wants to keep it that way. Remember Obama is for an even playing field and GOP, AC are die hard capitalist.

Yes, AC is the one percent and he seems to have a strong interest in the rich and powerful like Trump (and himself), no matter how obnoxious he is. I also agree that AC is probably very concerned about higher taxes and that aside from social issues, he's not into liberal views and 'political correctness' (which is just an excuse bigots use to keep from being called bigoted).

President Obama and former Attorney General Eric Holder have done a lot to advance LGBT rights but AC has never really acknowledged the work they've done or how supportive they've been to the gay community. He seemed to be overly impressed with John Kasich's remarks during the debate about how he attended a gay wedding and would accept his daughters if they happened to be gay. This is the same Republican governor who wanted to deny James Obergefell the right to be listed on his husband's death certificate--which set up the case for the Supreme Court's ultimate decision on same sex marriage. Anderson seems to give the GOP a pass on their homophobia while totally ignoring the efforts of President Obama in that area.

I don't think AC cares for The President. I think he feels he is old news and his values don't totally represent Anderson's or CNN. No one believes in Obama anymore. I believe from comments, excerpts from interviews that if AC were a politician he would be an independent or republican. He favors Gop on economic issues, military... not what his stance is on abortion. Probably no opinion. He seems only invested on the GOP politics, their message. He seems to be eager to only cover dems for scandals, controversial things. He doesn't push back against goo anymore. I think CNN a few years back got the message that they were perceived to be a "liberal" network and have made a concerted effort to change that. They aren't fair to democratic guest and viewpoints on there, especially 360. Another all GOP panel tonight.

@ARIES MOON: ANDERSON IS NOT ALLOWING HIMSELF TO BE 'BAMBOOZLED'BY TRUMP'S ANTICS.
WE BOTH KNOW THAT AC IS SMARTER THAN THAT. HE FINDS TRUMP AMUSING, ENTERTAINING, AND MOST OF ALL,
HE WILL VOTE FOR HIM SHOULD HE BECOME THE CANDIDATE OF CHOICE, BECAUSE TRUMP HAS ANDERSON'S BEST
INTERESTS AT HEART....AND HIS BEST INTERESTS ARE TRUMP'S INTERESTS. ANDERSON IS A MULTI-MILLIONAIRE
AND NO, HE NEVER LIKED PRESIDENT OBAMA BECAUSE HE WAS AFRAID THAT HE WOULD VOID HIS PRECIOUS TAX
LOOP HOLES THAT NOW ALLOWS HIM TO HAVE THREE HOMES AND CLAIM DEDUCTIONS FOR ALL OF THEM.
TRUMP WE KNOW IS NOT FOR "THE LITTLE GUY." HE HAS PROVEN TO BE A SEXIST BIGOT, WHO IS RICH AND POWERFUL AND POWER HUNGRY, AND CRASS.
HOPEFULLY, "REASONABLE PEOPLE" LIKE OURSELVES, WILL SEE TO IT THAT DONALD TRUMP NEVER MAKES IT TO
THE WHITE HOUSE.
BUT DON'T ASSUME ALL "REASONABLE PEOPLE" ARE ON THE SAME PAGE. IF THERE'S ONE THING I'VE LEARNED
IN MY 67 YEARS, IS THAT THE WORD "REASONABLE" HAS MANY CONNOTATIONS.

@ anon 12:10 am, sorry about the very late response (I just saw this addition to the comments), but good point!
