Anderson Cooper 360 on Wednesday, August 19, 2015

Anderson Cooper anchored AC360 from the NYC studio.  The first 30 minutes or so of the program was basically a Trump campaign event.   Then came a segment on Trump's one-on-one interview with Chris Cuomo where Trump made some false claim and Chris called him out on the set of AC360:

Next there was a segment on poll numbers and talk of Hillary Clinton.  Dan Pfeiffer (former Senior Adviser to President Obama) is now a CNN Contributor and he pushed back on the CNN/AC360 Hillary spin:

Trump 360 continues. CNN should change to TNN, Trump national network. More polls, more panels more pumping up trump. Hilary on other end... continues to get attacked and painted as a failing campaign despite her leading the dem race and leading gop contenders. There's never an all dem panel but all gop panels is ok. Its basically the same show every night now. Trump news, trump polls, trump sound bites, interviews. Next is a little bit on dem polls but never their message. The dems message for America is always muted. Then its to Hilary and boy the media just has her doomed. Her polls, her stupid emails... I mean its just ridiculous. Trump is getting all this air time because of his over the top persona. He is a media machine and savvy. The way the media is going after clinton kinda reminds me of the witch hunt of Bill. He wasn't the first President to have an affair while in office. Probably won't be the last but we see how they took that way overboard. That had nothing to do with how he ran the country. Same with Hilary but of course 360 won't see that. Anyway, another segment was on Jared the former subway spokesperson. Just sickening acts. Child porn, video taping incidents, paying sex for minors and asking for Younger girls. Just sickening acts! I can only imagine what his wife, well soon ex wife feels. She married a monster! I hope he rots in jail. The youngest victim was... gulps 6! He has two young kids... 3 and 1. You see people on t.v. they are tooted to be good people and then this. You just can't trust people on t.v. we don't know them and they shouldn't be our role models or kids role models. I love subway food but told my partner today, I'm taking a break...

Jared Fogle was mentioned first, for about 15 seconds, at the start and then Trump had the rest of the first segment. 360 carried Trump's Town Hall meeting LIVE for about 10 minutes. Hayes also showed a few minutes of this Town Hall but then talked to a political panel.

The second segment started with a clip from Jeb dissing Trump. Alex Castellanos, Jeffrey Lord and Amanda Carpenter discussed a new poll which puts Hillary at 51% and Trump at 45%. They talked about what this means, electability, the GOP field and the celebrity/curiousity factor of Trump.

Next up was a lengthy clip from Chris Cuomo's interview of Trump. At one point Trump said '... I would build up our military so strong that no one will mess with us...' Cuomo did not ask Trump how that would be paid for. Anderson talked to Cuomo and Cuomo pointed out that Trump's claim of getting a U.S. Marines award was not true. The rest of their discussion was on the 14th Amendment and Trump's alleged "flexibility".

Here's a question - Yesterday a couple of those pundits said Trump is great at using the media and his "accessibility" to the media. Yes, every week it seems there's a new big Trump interview. What about the other candidates? Let's set aside Jeb, Hillary Clinton, Marco Rubio and Ben Carson.
I mean candidate like Mike Huckabee (5.1% in Huffington's Pollster) Rand Paul (4.6%), John Kasish (3.3%) or even Rick Perry (1.6% but he used to be a lot higher. I'm not going to include Carly Florin (4.6%) because she has a cache of novelty to her (only GOP woman, the rise after the B-group debate).
If one of those guys went to CNN or to Anderson and said 'INTERVIEW ME!' and offer an all-questions-allowed interview for as long as possible. If Trump can get an hour-long prime-time interview on CNN, can any other candidate? Would CNN tell Huckabee or Paul or Kasich or Perry "Thanks but no thanks"?
I think Jeb would get a segment-long interview and that's it. But what about Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders?

Okay, back to 360. The new poll with Clinton at 51% and Trump at 45% got further attention. Tom Foreman detailed the closing of the gap, Clinton losing points to Sanders and her unfavorable rating increase. Jeff Zeleny and Dan Pfeiffer were the panel. At one point Anderson said, of Clinton and Trump, "....they're both getting a lot of attention..." Well DUH!!! Just look at 360 with gads of positive coverage for Trump and far less and mostly negative coverage of Clinton. I loved it when Pfeiffer pointed out that Clinton had great poll numbers, the kind anyone in the GOP field would envy. The rest of the discussion were deja vu topics - poll numbers, Biden, Sanders, trust - that we've all heard before.

Randi Kaye had a report on former Subway spokesman Jared Fogle and his child porn & sex with minors case. Dr. Drew Pinsky and Jeffrey Toobin talked about the psychological and legal angles.

The last minute was a Bulletin. The last blip was on the Ashley Madison website hacking scandal. This topic received a full segment at Hayes, followed by a panel discussion about internet privacy.

In the middle of his show, Hayes reported on the death of Khaled al-Asaad, killed by ISIS for trying to protect the antiquities which ISIS wanted to destroy. Anderson could have reported on al-Asaad if less time was spent on Trump.

There have been articles written about how the press is deliberately trying to destroy Hillary Clinton's campaign and prop up the Republican candidates--after all of the insane fawning by the press over someone like Donald Trump and the almost criminal lack of push-back, fact-checking and challenging questions by reporters, it's not hard to believe that Hillary is not getting a fair shake in the media. I don't think she's blameless or the greatest campaigner, but she has far more gravitas, credibility and substance than Trump but SHE'S made to look like the loser and HE'S supposed to suddenly be worthy presidential material. I know much of the focus on Trump is being dictated by ratings, but I do think the press is hostile to Hillary and Democrats in general. President Obama has been MASSIVELY disrespected by the MSM. There is no such thing as the 'liberal media'. If there WERE, Trump would've been chewed up and spit out by now by actual journalists who know he's nothing but a clown playing up the fears and racism of his supporters. Fox News and conservative radio have really made this country embarrassingly stupid and reporters, who are supposed to expose the kind of demagoguery Trump represents, are now promoting it. AC360's become a bigger mess than usual since they've decided to go all Trump all of the time.

The media is all over clinton. I'm not even the biggest fan but would vote for her over gop... but it seems the networks are all in agreement to keep up the attacks and negative coverage. They are doing the Republicans work everyday, especially 360. Trump is being treated like a King who is about to take his throne. Clinton is very unlike but she is the democratic front runner. She is leading all GOP contenders, yet all cnn, 360 will brag about how Trump is down 6 points. Smh... if Obama was down 6 points to Romney in 2012 I doubt they would carry on. They would say Obama is buried... losing... bias coverage.

@CWM84: "[Bill Clinton] wasn't the first President to have an affair while in office. Probably won't be the last but we see how they took that way overboard. That had nothing to do with how he ran the country."

Early in his first term, Clinton was sued by Paula Jones, an Arkansas state employee who alleged that he sexually harassed her when he was Gov. During depositions in that case, Jones' lawyers sought to establish a pattern of sexual connections between Clinton & female employees, such as Monica Lewinsky. He lied under oath that he had not had a sexual relationship with her & that lie constituted the crime of perjury. His impeachment was based on having committed a crime while in office, not on committing adultery.

The U.S. Constitution provides for impeachment of a President who commits "high crimes and misdemeanors". I don't doubt that there were ulterior political motives for seeking his impeachment (which succeeded) & conviction (which failed), but he did lie under oath (as he later admitted) & that was the legal basis for impeachment.

"THE DEMS MESSAGE FOR AMERICA IS ALWAYS MUTED."
I HAVE TO COMMENT ON THIS STATEMENT BECAUSE IT IS JUST SO WRONG. I KNOW I'M TAKING THIS COMMENT
OUT OF CONTEXT AND IT WAS MEANT TO IMPLY THAT CNN DOESN'T WANT TO COVER THE DEM'S MESSAGE.
BUT, THE POINT IS, THE DEMOCRATS HAVE NO MESSAGE. THEY HAVEN'T HAD A SOLID MESSAGE FOR 8 YEARS.
EXCEPT FOR OBAMA THERE IS NO ONE IN CONGRESS, AND THAT INCLUDES THE SENATE, THAT THE GOP ACTUALLY RESPECTS, AND THEY DON'T RESPECT HIM. YEARS AGO THERE WAS SENATOR KENNEDY....NOW THERE IS NO ONE AND THAT ALSO INCLUDES HILLARY.
I KNOW THAT SOME HERE THINK PRESIDENT OBAMA LEFT A GREAT LEGACY, BUT THE ONE VARIABLE THAT WAS NOT
SITED WAS GUN CONTROL, BECAUSE PRESIDENT OBAMA DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING AFTER SANDY HOOK AND THAT HAPPENED UNDER HIS WATCH AND HE FAILED TO ACT. IT WAS HUGE, AND AND THIS FAILURE WILL FOLLOW HIM
LONG AFTER HE LEAVES OFFICE. EVERYONE WILL REMEMBER THAT TWENTY INNOCENT CHILDREN WERE SHOT TO DEATH SITTING IN THEIR CLASSROOMS AND THIS ADMINISTRATION DID NOTHING, NADA, ZERO.

I don't blame President Obama for lack of movement on gun control. I KNOW he wanted to get something done but the reality is that Congress is OWNED by the NRA and nothing would've gotten past that. Even if the President did some sort of executive order, the Congress would be in a rush to try to override it. It is NOT President Obama's fault that Sandy Hook happened--the blood is on the NRA's hands and the weak wimps in Congress who fear them. I don't believe that President Obama or any president that succeeds him will be able to do a darn thing with gun control. No one ever has. Blame the NRA and the gun lobbyists.

OVER THE LAST 8 YEARS OR EVEN THE LAST DECADE, GUN LOBBYISTS HAVE BECOME EVEN STRONGER.
PRESIDENT OBAMA HAD A SMALL WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY RIGHT AFTER SANDY HOOK WHEN EVERYONE,
DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS ALIKE, WERE SO SHOCKED AND APPALLED AT THE GRISLY THOUGHT OF THE CHILDREN
SLAUGHTERED AND DEFENSELESS, AND "WAYNE" HEAD OF THE NRA WAS CALLED BEFORE CONGRESS AND WAS GRILLED
AND CHASTISED. THAT WAS OBAMA'S OPPORTUNITY TO TACKLE THE GUN LOBBY.
HE DIDN'T EVEN TRY.....AND UNFORTUNATELY THERE WILL BE ANOTHER SCHOOL MASSACRE BUT THIS TIME THERE
WILL BE A GRASS ROOTS MOVEMENT AND IT WILL BE LEFT FOR THE NEXT ADMINISTRATION.
"BLAME THE NRA AND THE GUN LOBBYISTS." NO, I BLAME THE ADMINISTRATION UNDER WHICH THIS MASSACRE TOOK PLACE. SADLY, WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT, UNDER THIS ADMINISTRATION, THE GUN LOYALISTS HAVE DOMINATED THE NEWS. ACTS OF VIOLENCE AND HATRED HAVE SPREAD....LIKE THE DISEASE IT IS.
