Anderson Cooper on Friday, August 21, 2015

Anderson Cooper had an early workout this morning before leaving town according to the above post on Instagram.  He also taped a new edition of the CNN Quiz Show that will air on September 9th.  Don Lemon posted a selfie of Anderson with the contestants and a short behind the scenes video of the taping.   John Berman was in the AC360 anchor chair tonight picking up CNN/AC360's campaigning for "The Donald".

I was two minutes late to 360 and Ryan Nobles report from the soon-to-start Rump rally in Mobile AL was already on. When that ended there was John Berman. Oh well, let's see how Berman does.

Berman's panel was Jeffrey Lord, Ana Navarro and Amanda Carpenter. I channelsurfed a bit but did catch Carpenter saying Jeb has a lot of ground to make up. Navarro tried to respond to that but Berman cut her off to announce 'Trump has entered the partking lot!' Navarro looked so pissed off. My respect for her would have rocketed if she said "So what?" and continued her pro-Jeb rant.

The second segment was still 'waiting for Trump's speech'. At one point, Carpenter said Trump should talk about the two U.S. Marines who tackled a terrorist on a French train. I saw good coverage of this ealrier on Blitzer's show. Maybe, hopefully it will get a segment on Monday's 360. The other notable comment was from Navarro, her still pissed off rant about Trump's overexposure. Wow. Navarro and I actually agree on something.

Trump finally showed up at the rally and started speaking. Both 360 and Hayes carried it. I went to the football game on the NFL channel. I checked back several times, hoping Berman or Hayes would talk over Trump or completely stop showing the rally. But that didn't happen. Trump had his rally nationally televised with no interruption.

Besides the U.S. Marines stopping the train terrorist, 360 also didn't report on North Korea snarling at South Korea or the Dow Jones falling off a cliff. A few days ago I wondered if CNN would give any time and attention to the lower-ranking GOP candidates. Friday on the 'Situation Room' Blitzer spent ten minutes over two segments interviewing Rick Santorum (at 0.8% in Huffington's Pollster). I don't like Santorum but it was refreshing to see Blitzer do this interview.

It's understandable for CNN and MSNBC to have an eye on the ratings, cover what's popular and ignore nasty North Korea. However, on Monday I don't want to participate in the Trump = Ratings racket. If Anderson or Hayes start talking about Trump, I'm changing the channel and won't come back to stay unless they cover other news. And there's another football game Monday night.

The CNN quiz show must do ok in the ratings for them to keep bringing it back. It strikes me as something the anchors are forced to do but they're not all that enthusiastic about it--AC didn't seem too thrilled in the clip. Jake Tapper hasn't been back on it. I will watch again though. If AC's headed for a vacation, it'll be the same week he was called back from Croatia to cover Katrina ten years ago. I suppose he wouldn't get that kind of call these days unless something really major happened.

I didn't watch 360 but I saw some several comments on Twitter complaining about John Berman being 'biased' against Trump--Berman sounds like a smart man who clearly isn't impressed or fooled by Trump's act the way Anderson appears to be.

Aries moon, John Berman is a breath of fresh air as opposed to many others at CNN. Berman worked for Peter Jennings and other greats in the news business and understands reporting the news a supposed to sensationalizing it. Add to that a brilliant mind and a quick wit and you've got one great newsman.

I turn on 360 at the start and if I hear he who should not be named mentioned I either switch stations or turn off the TV.

@Phebe, thanks for the info on John Berman--I wasn't aware that he worked for Peter Jennings--sounds like he was influenced by that great reporter. Next time he subs, I am definitely watching.

I TOO AM IMPRESSED WITH JOHN BERMAN'S DELIVERY AND ABOVE ALL, HIS OBJECTIVITY DURING PANEL DISCUSSIONS. YOU CAN TELL HE'S FROM THE"OLD SCHOOL OF JOURNALISM" AND IS A CLASS ACT.
I ALSO AM BEGINNING TO LIKE CHRIS CUOMO. HE'S EASIER TO LIKE THAN HIS BROTHER ANDREW, THE GOVERNOR
OF NY. ANDREW ALWAYS APPEARS ANGRY. NEVER SMILES AND CERTAINLY DOESN'T POSSESS THE CHARISMA OF HIS
FAMOUS AND LATE FATHER, MARIO. MARIO WOULD HAVE MADE A GOOD PRESIDENT NO MATTER WHAT HIS"TIES" WERE OR WEREN'T. HE JUST HAD THAT ABILITY TO ARTICULATE AND RELATE....SOMETHING EVERY CURRENT CANDIDATE RUNNING, PARTISAN OR OTHERWISE, IS MISSING.

I was thinking that maybe he was on assignment for 60 minutes.

I remember last time he was on WWHL with Kelly he said he was going to be on "Live w/ Kelly" some time August. At least that's what I remember him saying.

Also Kelly has been off for the past week and usually when she comes back from a vacation, Michael leaves for a few shows. But i dont know.

I skipped 360. Sick of Trump coverage and not enough balance in democratic side of politics. CNN has turned into more gop in their favoritism. They, AC don't even hide it even more. I wonder if AC will be back monday. I got a feeling he won't be. Hos vacation time is coming again soon.

Never mind he's on vacation with Andy Cohen.

NOW TRUMP KICKED OUT THE HEAD LATINO REPORTER FROM UNIVISION. ENOUGH BRAVADO! IF TRUMP EVER MADE
IT TO THE WHITE HOUSE HE'D BE A RICH CHRISTIE ON SPEED. YES, THIS IS WHAT HE HAS BECOME. MR EGO HIMSELF...YOU DON'T LIKE THE QUESTION, GET RID OF THE REPORTER.
SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE HAS TO INFORM MR WEALTH THAT THE CONSTITUTION PROVIDES FOR CHECKS AND BALANCES AND
HE DOES HAVE TO ANSWER TO THE PEOPLE AND THE PRESS PROVIDES ACCESS TO THE PEOPLE AND THE PEOPLE HAVE THE RIGHT TO SPEAK.
I DON'T CARE WHAT THE LATEST POLL SAYS. MOST OF THOSE PEOPLE CAME TO SEE A CHEAP BROADWAY SHOW,
GOT ON LINE EARLY, AND WERE MORE THAN SATISFIED TO SEE THEIR LOUD MOUTH HERO....OF THE MOMENT,
SHOOT FROM HIS HIP.
BUT THAT IS NOT THE WAY THE SYSTEM WORKS, AND "THE DONALD" NEEDS A BIG FAT DOSE OF HIS "OWN REALITY."
