Anderson Cooper 360 & Anderson Cooper on Watch What Happens Live on Thursday, October 22, 2015

Anderson Cooper anchored a special edition of AC360 at 9pmET following the conclusion of the House Benghazi Hearings.   The entire hour was devoted to breaking down the eleven hours former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton appeared before the committee.

Anderson appeared on Thursday night's episode of WWHL.  The program was taped on Monday since Andy had a launch party tonight for his SiriusXM Radio Station.  Whoopi Goldberg was the original scheduled guest, but she was sick and Anderson filled in.  Enjoy!

Looks like the Republicans failed in their efforts to break Hillary Clinton down and badger her into saying something about Benghazi that would reveal her to be an incompetent, heartless monster who caused the death of the four Americans serving there. After hours and hours of testimony and millions of taxpayer dollars wasted, few new details were uncovered. Anderson's political panels on 360 seemed to agree that Republicans did themselves no favors by facing down Clinton--she was strong, calm, compassionate, intelligent, armed with facts and real insight and knowledge about the events surrounding the Benghazi attacks and she took responsibility for any mistakes she may have made. Gloria Borger made the point that the Benghazi committee was too partisan, that Democrats didn't ask Clinton "a lot" of tough questions--Anderson jumped in quickly to say the Dems didn't ask Hillary "ANY" tough questions at all--but AC had nothing to say when Borger criticized the Republicans for their unfocused attack on Clinton that didn't extract any pertinent information that the public could use to decide what they thought about Clinton's actions in Benghazi. Anderson asked Jeff Toobin (who was highly critical of the Benghazi committee) if he felt Clinton will be faced with any legal troubles down the line as a result of her role in Benghazi--Toobin said she most likely won't--AC didn't care for that answer so he asked Gergen if HE thought Clinton would be hit with legal issues on Benghazi--Gergen said he usually takes the word of Toobin when it comes to legal matters and he agreed with him. Begala, Brazile, Borger, Bernstein and Gergen all seemed to conclude that the Benghazi committee hearing was a bust for Republicans and that Hillary emerged from it stronger and more credible.

Thanks for posting the WWHL after-show clips.

On WWHL, AC said he never takes sides politically as a reporter and that he doesn't even talk politics with his friends because it's not his job or the role that he's here to play--I'm not sure I buy that completely--the only reason it may be true for him is because his extreme wealth insulates him from worries or concerns about economic issues and perhaps some social issues as well--perhaps because the impact of decisions made by politicians don't necessarily have a detrimental effect on him personally so he can afford to be apathetic about politics? There are plenty of wealthy people on both sides that are involved in the political process and who are very concerned about the direction the country takes on economic, military and social issues. I know AC likes to keep his opinions to himself and is careful about what he says, but I really find it hard to believe that he's totally neutral or completely disengaged from all things political--there are times when he most definitely seems invested in it and takes a side.

HILLARY SHOULD BE PLEASED WITH HER ELEVEN HOUR TESTIMONY. IF ANYTHING IT GAVE HER MORE AIR TIME THAN ANY OTHER CANDIDATE AND IT SHOWED HOW ENERGETIC AND KNOWLEDGEABLE SHE IS.
NO OTHER CANDIDATE COULD HAVE WITHSTOOD THE TIME AND HAD THE FORTITUDE, TO LISTEN TO
THE REPUBLICAN DRIBBLE AND ENDURE THAT INQUISITION, EXCEPT HILLARY.
IN A RECENT CNN POLL, CONGRESS HAD A DISAPPROVAL RATING OF 73%! DO THEY CARE? NO, BUT MOST VIEWERS
WERE NOT ROOTING FOR THEM. WE WERE ROOTING FOR THE PERSON UNDER OATH.

I don't believe Anderson doesn't have a side politically. I'm guessing Andy knows what it is, too, but no way would Anderson take a side publicly. I'm sure he probably doesn't discuss politics with his friends much, but you can't tell me it hasn't come up in over 20 years of friendship between he and Andy. Andy is very public about his support, but he's not in the "news" business. Also Anderson worries about his money a lot, so I'm sure taxes are an issue he cares about. He talks about how frugal he is in many areas of his daily life.

I wish AC360 would have played Rep Cummings statements about the absurdity of the hearing and about how "we are better than this." It would have been nice for AC360 to have a report about the number of hearings and time and taxpayer $$ spent vs other events like the hearings on 9/11, Watergate, Gulf Oil Spill, the Iraqi invasion, etc. I get that 4 Americans died and that there needed to be an investigation to figure out what changes could be made to prevent it from happening again, but apparently the Republican's have short term memory loss when it comes to the 80s and how many Americans died of terrorist attacks under the Reagan administration. It was in the hundreds - many more than 4. I wish AC360 would do more to report the news and put it in context vs so many worthless pundit opinions. There are a lot of people that could use some history/context to make informed opinions. But then again I'm sure CNN aired all 11 hours hoping for a Hillary meltdown so they could say they were the first to report it. Unfortunately, that's what CNN has become these days. At least there wasn't a Trump segment!

ANDY COHEN IS OF THE JEWISH FAITH. MOST JEWS ARE DEMOCRATS. IS ANDY? PROBABLY BUT HE IS WEALTHY.
MAYBE NOT AS WEALTHY AS ANDERSON BUT MY GUESS IS THEY DON'T SHARE THE SAME POLITICAL BACKGROUND
AND THEREFORE ARE NOT POLITICALLY ALIGNED.
THERE ARE MANY JEWS WHO ARE DEMOCRATS AND ARE RICH. BLOOMBERG WAS A DEMOCRAT BEFORE HE BECAME AN
INDEPENDENT AND TRUMP, THOUGH NOT JEWISH AS WE ALL KNOW, ALSO WAS A DEMOCRAT BEFORE HE BECAME A
REPUBLICAN. SO IT IS HARD TO SAY.
IN ORDER TO WIN ANY ELECTION, CANDIDATES MUST GO TOWARDS THE MIDDLE IN ORDER TO SATISFY VOTERS.
THAT IS A FACT.
AS FOR THE ANDYS, ANYTHING GOES.

AC has side a lot of things through the years that make little sense and make him appear a robot and unmoved. AC does have a preferred side, he is more political than he let's on. He is more than a person who anchors a news show, goes out with friends to madonna concerts and expensive vacations on his free time. He is still portraying this role when his credibility has been hit a lot especially since his daytime show. I believe AC leans republican especially on crime and tax cuts for wealthy. His showed ignored occupy wall street, ignores bernie sanders message etc. I believe he is very into and has shown he cares about glbt issues. His show has stopped reporting on glbt issues but he spent years and years not forgetting the community and was once the go to person on all those issues of gays and lesbians and the plight of lack of rights for them. He has been very fortunate because of his wealth to not face many hardships that many glbt go through. He had a mother that accepted him and had gay friends. AC can afford to be apathetic towards politics but he isn't. He is lying when he says he is to continue this charade persona in public. He has donated to a Republican. 5 years ago he donated to a new York politician. I believe he is an independent who leans right. I'm an independent that leans right on some social issues, marriage equality, gay rights in particular are very important to me and I see how the Republicans are against glbt rights. AC Is just saying these type of things because he wants to appear neutral but he clearly favors republicans.

@ARIES MOON: YOU ARE CORRECT. WHENEVER ANDERSON DOESN'T LIKE JEFF TOOBIN'S LEGAL ANALYSIS OF A
SITUATION, HE THEN ASKS DAVID GERGEN, WHO I REMEMBER LIKING ONCE. I JUST CAN'T REMEMBER WHY.

Actually it was in 2001 that he donated $250 to Richter Elser who was running for some political thing in New Haven but who was the Yale crew team coach the exact same time AC was in the crew team. This is super easy to find. Google political donations and search name in database. Then search for richter elser Yale crew and it is right there. So isn't like he donated to some random republican. He wasn't even going to be under his mayoral duties all the way in. New Haven. He just donated because he probably knew the guy. I definitely think he is a neutral as can he but leans left based on how he calls on out both people and the snide comments he makes about republicans that come out sometimes. However, I truly believes he hates most politicians and finds them semi interesting but disgusting, he has made general comments about politicians before and it sounds like he just doesn't like them AT ALL.
