Anderson Cooper 360 on Monday, January 25, 2016

Anderson Cooper anchored AC360 at Drake University in Iowa ahead of the CNN Democrat Town Hall.  Much of the program was a lead up to the Town Hall with a little Trump talk thrown because it is CNN!   After the Town Hall Anderson spoke with moderator Chris Cuomo during CNN Tonight With Don Lemon:

Anderson posted the following to his IG account on Sunday.  We will have coverage of his weekend at the Sundance Film Festival tomorrow.

There's good news and bad news about Monday's 360. A lot of the show was a preview of the Democratic Presidential Town Hall coming up next. And that was good. Finally a good bit of attention paid to the Democratic candidates, especially Bernie Sanders who has shrunk Hillary Clinton's lead in CNN's latest poll (national? or just Iowa?). However, if it's the same poll that was on Erin Burnett's show, Hillary is at 52% and Sanders is at 38%. That's a pretty nice lead if you ask me. But Anderson and his pundits didn't ask me. Anderson's take was 'Hillary's down, Hillary's in trouble'. The panel in the first segment was Donna Brazile, Katrina vanden Heuval and Jeff Zeleny. Unfortunately I couldn't pay close attention to their analysis.

I missed the start of the next segment, when I got there Anderson had just finished talking to some guy who's name I didn't get. This was when Anderson began talking about Obama and who he might endorse. The panel here was Maggie Haberman and Ana-Malika Henderson. They discussed the Obama/Hillary history, the situation now, would Michael Bloomberg run as a third-party candidate and what is Rubio doing now.

The bad news: two segments on Trump. ATA said it was "a little Trump talk" but I think it was way too much. The first Trump segment started with his '...I could stand on Fifth Avenue and shoot someone and still win...' comment and his explanation/defense of that comment in a Blitzer interview. I didn't stay. When I checked back later the panel with Jeffrey Lord, Ana Navarro and another woman was in full swing.

The second Trump segment started with a 'Trump on the Attack' pic behind Anderson. Nope.

More bad news: Hayes had far better content at this point. He covered the news of a Texas grand jury indicting the two (David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt) who made the misleadingly edited Planned Parenthood (is selling baby parts) video. How awesome is this? The grand jury was convened to investigate Planned Parenthood so charges could be brought against them in Texas but instead the grand jury found Daleiden and Merritt broke the law. Hayes also covered the latest in the Flint water disaster and blame game and the news of President Obama ending solitary confinement for minors and those in jail for minor infractions.

On a 360 commercial break there was a commercial for the upcoming Town Hall. The commercial showed Hillary, Sanders and Martin O'Malley. The stage behind Anderson showed two chairs on stage. Hmmm...

In the last segment I saw had Anderson talking with Jeff Weaver of the Sanders campaign.

The hopeful news: Anderson will cover Daleiden&Merritt, Flint and Obama's decision on solitary confinement during tomorrow's show. And if Trump has to be covered, let's hope it's for a good reason and not because Trump is being Trump as per usual.

As soon as I heard AC say Hillary is down I switched channels, didn't need to hear any more. Re Flint Rachel Maddow is holding a town hall there next Wednesday, this is one thing I will watch.

Side note to AC - your "girlfriend" Madonna has donated 10,000.00 to Flint.

AC and the reporter from the Wall Street Journal seemed to be fangirling over how Trump sets his strategy for the latest person on his attack list--as if this matters more than him being a bigot and a clown and totally clueless about policy. It doesn't seem to matter to certain journalists that Trump spends the majority of his time in the spotlight mocking people, being an out and out racist and talking nonsense on domestic and foreign policy and being too afraid to deal with a lightweight like Megyn Kelly. Trump is WEAK but he has the idiots in the electorate and the enablers media in a stranglehold.

@Jaanza, very good points about what 360 should be covering but probably won't. Since the Planned Parenthood story is no longer a tool for the right to attack Hillary Clinton and Democrats in general, they'll no longer mention it on CNN, I'm guessing.

TRUMP IS ACTING LIKE A 'PETULANT CHILD' TO USE A QUOTE FROM THE FAT LIPS OF THE GREAT CHRIS CHRISTIE....OF COURSE HE
DIDN'T DENOUNCE HIS OPPONENT OUT OF FEAR OF REPRISAL LIKE HE DID OBAMA," BUT IT IS QUITE SUITABLE.
"DONALD NEEDS TO LEARN HOW TO PLAY WELL WITH OTHERS," OR HE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GOVERN HIS ELECTORATE. PERIOD. PLEASE LEARN NOW: BEING PRESIDENT IS HARD WORK!
HE FINDS MEGYN KELLY A THREAT BECAUSE SHE DARED TO ASK HIM A QUESTION HE WAS UNABLE TO ANSWER.
AND NOW THE POOR SOUL HAS TO ACT OUT AND BE INFANTILE AND POUT, LIKE A NINE YEAR OLD.
SORRY BUT THAT'S LIFE. FOX NEWS IS RIGHT, NOT A PUN, AND DONNY BOY IS WRONG AND HE NEEDS TO GROW UP.
YOU CAN'T BOSS EVERYONE AROUND BECAUSE YOU DON'T LIKE THEM AND TELL OTHER CEO'S LIKE ROGER AILES,
HOW TO CONDUCT BUSINESS, OR YOU WON'T COME OUT TO PLAY.
THE GOP SHOULD PROCEED WITHOUT HIM AND NOT MENTION HIS NAME ONCE ON THE STAGE....THEY SHOULD ACT
LIKE ADULTS AND TALK ISSUES LIKE THE DEMOCRATS AND PERHAPS REPLAY BERNIE SANDERS INTERVIEW WITH
ANDREW COUMO. WHILE BERNIE MAY NOT BE YOUR CUP OF TEA, HE SPOKE FROM THE HEART AND TRIES HIS BEST TO "PLAY WELL WITH HILLARY."
DEMOCRAT, REPUBLICAN OR INDEPENDENT: I WANT AN ADULT, WITH AN ADULT MIND AS MY PRESIDENT. IF I
WANTED A CHILD I WOULD'VE ENLISTED ONE OF MY MANY STUDENTS FROM YEARS GONE BY.
