It's hard to imagine how anyone could take issue with the sensible background check proposal that President Obama has put forth--he couldn't have been any clearer about what the plan entails and how it's not designed to take away guns from responsible, safe, law abiding gun owners and dealers--the president seemed exasperated by the fact that there is so much resistance to ANY form of gun control coming from those on the right and how they can't be convinced that the president doesn't want to "take away" their guns. Anderson attempted a few times to interrupt the president as he was speaking and bring in the usual talking points but President Obama wasn't having any of that--he kept talking over AC's questions in order to get the point he was trying to make across and I'm glad he did because I'd rather hear exactly what the president has to say. Anderson made a point to say that gun owners just don't trust the president on gun control but he is right--he's been in office 7 years and is at the end of his presidency, so why would he be confiscating guns now when he's never done it in all the years of his presidency? Rabid gun owners are completely paranoid and illogical. And YES Anderson, a conspiracy theory is just that, a conspiracy theory and I'm sure you know it.

I skipped the pundit panel after the town hall because I figured it would only make me angry as usual.

Anderson seemed overly enamored and impressed with how Chris Kyle's widow "stood up" to the President and asked him "tough" questions, but frankly she's a fool to not want better background checks considering how her husband was killed.

I hope Jack Gray is ok.

AC was really aggressive early on. I guess his producers gave him orders to try to throw the President off. I doubt AC would have pressed GWB or any Republican like that. Obama has this imagine that he is week and passive and AC certainly tried to take advantage of that. It was a good town hall and good questions by audience. The pundit segment was nothing more but a partisan mess with Jack Tapper. The gun issue is a big, big problem. Sadly there is no easy solution and nothing the President has done or can do by himself will stop anything. Criminals, simply don't follow laws. Baltimore has some of the toughest gun laws and 344 people were killed. Many people were prohibited from having a firearm. I live in Baltimore county, former city resident. A lot of these criminals, gangs, thugs etc just don't go through back ground checks but get guns illegally and their type of violence will not be stopped. There needs to be tougher sentences, tougher prosecutions. No breaks. Lock them up and make them do whole time. So many offenders in our city are repeat offenders... they obviously think the system is a joke because they keep getting out early. Also mental health is something not easily seen. Many people can hide their sick thoughts. How many times in mass shootings do you hear people say, "he never showed any signs." So there is no easy solution. The Presidents measures are just a band aid and truthfully don't go far enough. So I don't understand NRA's problem.

THE NRA DOESN'T HAVE A PROBLEM. NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS THEY WILL MAKE MONEY AND SADLY THAT IS WHAT IT
IS ALL ABOUT. NATURALLY THEY ARE NOT INTERESTED IN GUN SAFETY. THERE'S MORE MONEY IN GUNS THAT
ARE NOT SAFE AND TO THEM, "GREED IS GOOD."
THEY BALKED ABOUT TOY GUNS BEING TAKEN OFF THE MARKET BECAUSE TOY GUNS SELL AND AGAIN ANYTHING THAT
SELLS, GOOD BAD OR INDIFFERENT, MAKES MONEY, AND THAT IS MORE PROFIT FOR THIS CORRUPT WELL FUNDED, INTEREST GROUP WHICH RUNS CONGRESS AND THE JUSTICE SYSTEM. SO GOES OUR DEMOCRACY.
AC KNEW CHRIS KYLE'S WIFE WAS A "PLANT" SENT FROM THE NRA AND HER HUSBAND WAS A LEGENDARY MARKSMEN.
SHE HAS MADE MILLIONS FROM THE SALE OF 'AMERICAN SNIPER' AND THE SALE OF THE MOVIE RIGHTS.
HER HUSBAND IS GONE, BUT HIS MONEY "LIVES ON."
HER BOOK IS A JOKE. IT WAS CO-AUTHORED AND WRITTEN AS THOUGH SHE WAS STILL LEARNING THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE. WHATEVER SHE SAID, SHE WAS COACHED BY THE NRA.
AND JAKE TAPPER IS ANOTHER JOKE. WHY NOT HAVE JOHN BERMAN HEAD PANEL DISCUSSIONS? JAKE TAPPER HAS
PROBLEMS READING THE TELEPROMPTER MOST TIMES.
AND WHILE WE'RE SPEAKING OF JOHNS, JOHN KING WHO I DID LIKE, BEFORE DANA BASH DUMPED HIM, IS BEGINNING TO ANNOY ME. IS THERE ANY POLL THAT HE INTERPRETS THAT DOESN'T ADD UP TO A WIN FOR "THE DONALD?"
JOHN KING HAS ALSO BEEN COACHED....BY JEFF ZUCKER. NEED I SAY MORE?

Anderson came off a little smug and condescending when he said that he wanted the town hall to be an event where President Obama has to answer to people who disagreed with him--as though the idea of President Obama dealing with people who disagree with him is a novel concept. That's what he's faced for the last 7 years, as if THIS president, of all people, has never dealt with negativity from all sides--Anderson sounded as if President Obama is in a bubble and doesn't know that there are people out there who might have a different outlook on gun control than he does and that it would be a challenge for him to deal with these people face to face. Ugh, please. The President was unruffled and unflappable as usual but he was clearly exasperated with the sheer ignorance and stubbornness of the gun owners.

@anon 10:05, intriguing info about Chris Kyle's wife--explains a lot.

@ARIES MOON: THAT'S EXACTLY RIGHT. ANDERSON DID ACT AS THOUGH THE PRESIDENT JUST LANDED ON PLANET
EARTH AND HE'S BEEN ORBITING THE EARTH FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME...SAY 7 YEARS.
IT ALSO EXPLAINS WHY THE PRESIDENT BECAME SO UPSET WITH AC FOR QUESTIONING HIS LOGIC ON THE "CONSPIRACY THEORY." YES, THERE ARE PEOPLE, AND I WILL CALL THEM PEOPLE, WHO DO BELIEVE THAT THIS
PRESIDENT WILL DO ANYTHING TO TAKE AWAY THEIR GUNS....LIKE IT WAS THEIR "GOD GIVEN RIGHT,"AND OBAMA
"BETTER" UPHOLD THE CONSTITUTION....AND GUNS ARE WHAT MADE THIS COUNTRY GREAT...RIGHT.
