Anderson Cooper 360 on Thursday, February 18, 2016

Anderson Cooper anchored an abbreviated edition of AC360 from Columbia, SC ahead of moderating night two of the CNN GOP Town Hall.  He made a short appearance on Erin Burnett's Out Front, anchored the abbreviated edition of AC360, moderated the town hall and spoke to Don Lemon for a few minutes after the town hall wrapped up.

I'm very disappointed in Anderson's moderating of the GOP town halls. Compared to when he moderated the Dem town hall he lobbed softball questions and didn't challenge anything they said. No questions on voting rights, gay marriage, climate change. No push back on the statements made by any of the candidates when they made statements contrary to some things he's even covered on AC360. I'm starting to think that it may be CNN controlled because during the pre-program there was a discussion about questions being asked and Anderson said at one point, I guess that will be asked either from the audience or maybe brought up by us. I'm wondering if someone talking in his ear is controlling the questions he asks and it's not his choosing/always known by him ahead of time. It was an odd statement for him to make. If that's the case, it's making him look bad as well as CNN. I'll be glad when Anderson starts covering something other than politics, but I have a feeling that unfortunately that's not going to be for a long time.

When will Anderson ever moderate a genuine GOP debate? He came prepared to challenge the Democrats in the debate he moderated with them a few months ago and really went after them with push-back and follow-up questions--even during the Dem Town Hall he had a few pointed questions for the candidates. AC missed an opportunity to really question the GOP candidates on their stances on a variety of issues (as anon 12:57 says). Town Halls are fine but these presidential candidates should not be allowed to make statements that are clearly not factually correct and not be challenged by reporters and the format of the Town Halls give the moderator too many opportunities to just sit back and listen to the candidate go on and on. Trump was talking his usual nonsense on Iran/Obamacare/Immigration but AC rarely spoke up or pushed back. Maybe AC would do a better job with the GOP candidates in a debate format but it doesn't seem like he'll ever moderate one.

I WATCHED THE GOP TOWN HALL IN SC AND I THOUGHT AC DID PUSH BACK ON TRUMP'S REFUSAL TO ANSWER WHETHER W. LIED. HE ASKED HIM AT LEAST THREE TIMES AND TRUMP WOULDN'T ANSWER THE QUESTION.
WHAT COULD HE DO OTHER THAN TO REPEAT THE QUESTION? TRUMP SHOULD HAVE SEEN THAT PARTICULAR QUESTION
COMING AND JUST HAVE SAID: WITH THE ADVISE W. HAD, FROM HIS VARIOUS SOURCES, PERHAPS HE DIDN'T INTENTIONALLY LIE. "AT THE TIME, IT SEEMED AS THOUGH HE DID."
WE ALL KNOW CHENEY WAS BEHIND THE INVASION AND TRUMP KNOWS THIS AS WELL....SO CHENEY LIED AND HE
SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE, NOT W. BUSH WAS A 'PUPPET PRESIDENT.' WE ALL KNOW THAT!
IS IT ME, OR AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO IS REALLY TIRED OF SEEING BARBARA BUSH STUMPING FOR "HER BOY."
SHE IS NINETY SOMETHING AND LOOKS IT. SO SIT DOWN, AND SHUT UP BABS...YOU'VE HAD MORE THAN
YOUR SHARE OF FIFTEEN MINUTES OF FAME.
LASTLY AND YOU ALL KNOW I'M NO TRUMP FAN....I AGREE. APPLE SHOULD COMPLY WITH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND RELEASE THE INFO ON THE iPHONE. THE VICTIM IS DEAD AND OUR SAFETY IS AT STAKE.
ENOUGH ABOUT PRIVACY ISSUES AND 1ST AMENDMENT RIGHTS. BOYCOTTING IS THE CORRECT THING TO DO.
HIT THEM WHERE IT HURTS.... IN THE POCKETBOOK WITH FUTURE APPLE SALES.
