Anderson Cooper 360 on Thursday, April 21, 2016

Anderson Cooper anchored an expanded two hour edition of AC360 from the NYC studio and devoted the entire two hours to the sad news of Prince's death today.  Anderson opened the program with the following overview:

Anderson referenced the private Prince concert he attended a few times during tonight's broadcast.   While guest co-hosting on October 14, 2008 on Live with Regis and Kelly,  during host chat Anderson goes into greater detail.  The Prince story starts about 5 minutes in:

Several times over the last few months I said I wanted some other big news story to take the 360 spotlight away from Trump. But not like this. Not Prince. Terribly sad news for everyone but especially to us Minnesotans. I took pride in the fact that although there was Michelle Bachmann, that was more than balanced out by the awesomeness of Prince.

Here's what was in the first hour:

- Prince's death, report including the fact Prince didn't use pre-recorded music in his concerts, it was all "organic and unexpected". Anderson interviewed Stevie Wonder, thought it was too soon for Anderson asking Wonder to sing or perform a Prince song although Wonder complied later.

- Ryan Young reported from Prince's home in Chanhassen MN, talked about the 911 call this morning and the crowds there now. Anderson interviewed Jon Parelles (NY Times music critic), Dan Light (Rolling Stone magazine) and Michaela Angela Davis (worked with Prince in the past) about Prince's music, his influence, the Super Bowl halftime performance, recording music at 19, his success and his fashion.

- Prince clip from Chris Rock interview, Anderson talks with Jimmy Jam a friend of Prince's way back in junior high about their friendship and working together.

- Randi Kaye report on Prince's relationships with Sheila E., Vanity, Madonna, Carmen Electra, first wife Mayte and second wife Manuela.

- Prince clip, a guitar solo from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Anderson interviewed David Wild (Rolling Stone magazine).

Very surprised 360 went into a second hour - not to finally cover politics (Trump Trump Trump) - but to report more on Prince. I don't remember Anderson doing this for David Bowie.

All the local radio stations have been playing lots of Prince songs; only wish they played "Seven" more often. Prince made Minnesota a cooler place. Hoping Bob Dylan hangs on til his 90s.

Thanks for the clip from 'Regis and Kelly', I'm just a little jealous Anderson got to attend a private Prince concert. No doubt Anderson has fun on 'Kelly and ?' but still wish he'd stay with CNN.

So sad to hear of legendary icon Prince's death, his brilliant music meant a lot to me--360 did a great job covering his career and impact on the world.

I'm still laughing about AC accidentally posting nude art in his Twitter.

PAGE 6 IN THE NY POST REPORTED IN ITS SATURDAY EDITION THAT KELLY RIPA WOULD RETURN TO LIVE ON
TUESDAY. THE QUESTION IS WHAT WILL SHE AND MICHAEL DO IN THE MEAN TIME? THEY CAN'T ACT AS THOUGH
THEY ARE ANGRY WITH ONE ANOTHER AT LEAST ON AIR?
KELLY SAID SHE WOULD MEET HER OBLIGATION AND RETURN BUT BAD FEELINGS ARE HARD TO PUT ASIDE.
I CAN'T HELP BUT FEEL THAT THIS IS JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF HOW WOMEN ARE TREATED IN THE INDUSTRY.
EVEN FAMOUS WOMEN GET SNUBBED AND WE AREN'T PRIVY TO IT.
