Anderson Cooper 360 on Tuesday, May 31, 2016

Anderson Cooper anchored an expanded two hour edition of AC360 from the NYC studio.   Most of the two hours was devoted to politics, with the exception of an interview Anderson did with Jack Hannah in the 8pmET hour and a report from Pamela Brown on a ride along with ICE in Chicago, one of many sanctuary cities in the U.S. during the 9pmET hour.  Anderson said part two of Brown's report will air tomorrow night.

Anderson is scheduled to guest co-host Live with Kelly tomorrow and Thursday.  Check you local listings for time and channel in your area.

In short, this was the first hour of Monday's 360: Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump, Cincinnati Zoo shot gorilla.

In more detail:
Trump is finally facing some scrutiny and accountability for the things he's said and he doesn't like it. Trump blasted the media and called them "dishonest" which is ironic since some in the media found out he was being dishonest with his claims of charity. The focus has been the amount and the recipients of the $6 million Trump claimed to have given to veterans groups. Drew Griffin had the facts on this and also the detail that at least one of the "charities" was a horrible organization. Anderson talked to Jim Acosta, who said Trump couldn't "take the heat" or answer uncomfortable questions; to Dana Bash, who said Trump was "biting the hand that feeds him" and the press has to hold Trump accountable for what he says; and to Dana Loesch, who said people don't respect the press, the press has to earn respect back and Trump should expect tough questions. However, Loesch couldn't resist ending up with a diss on the Obama administration.

Trump University started the next segment. Drew Griffin had an updated report from the one filed last week. After a few questions just between Anderson and Griffin, the panel of 7 was introduced. Jeffrey Lord, another Trump talking points parrot, got the first question and I changed the channel. When I checked back I heard Tara Setmayer say Trump's statements were "word vomit". Also in the panel were Gloria Borger, Nick Lazio, Christine Quinn, Marc Lamont Hill and Drew Griffin but nothing they said was as good as Setmayer's remark.

The segment allegedly about the Hillary Clinton campaign was only on 'how will Hillary deal with Trump?' and started with 5 or 6 clips of Trump. Even during an audio clip from Hillary, the video was Trump. Although I thought it was a good idea to hold a Q&A with just David Axelrod, the images during the discussion were 90% Trump.

I didn't stay for the next segment covering how a Trump SuperPAC is targeting Amish voters.

For the last segment of the first hour Anderson covered the news of the Cincinnati Zoo gorilla who was shot after a three-year-old boy fell into the gorilla enclosure. Instead of watching the interview with Jack Hanna, I watched Hayes interview Ralph Nader.

The second hour started exactly like the first hour did.

Will there be more scrutiny and fact-checking on Trump in 360's future? How probable is it that Zucker will tell Griffin, "Go ahead and find all the dirt you can on Trump and we'll put it on the air"? Personally, I don't like excessive Trump coverage but will watch reports which intelligently investigate him.

Dana Loesch was talking your standard right wing nonsense when she said the press didn't go after the Obama Administration on the so-called scandals that the GOP were all worked up over--the press (including AC360) did the bidding of the GOP by hyping 'scandals' that turned out to be a big bowl of nothing. Trump gets 24/7 coverage by the media, treats them like dirt and doesn't want them to challenge him or hold him accountable--if candidate Obama had behaved the way Trump is now with the press, they would've been jumping all over him and not trying to make excuses for him and the same goes for Hillary Clinton. Trump's been getting away with murder by a too-timid press, but that *might* be starting to change when you consider what Jim Acosta and Dana Bash were saying. The best moments on 360 were when AC was pressing Jeff Lord on whether or not Trump was lying about his 'university'--Lord did his usual schtick of deflecting and trying to pick on President Obama and Democrats but AC stopped him and kept trying to get him to answer his questions--An exasperated AC asked if there was ONE Trump surrogate who was allowed to disagree with him, Jeff Lord said a bolt of lightning would strike them if they did (if only!). Drew Griffin made Jeff Lord look like an idiot when he told him that the case against 'Trump University' has nothing to do with politics but has everything to do with Trump defrauding and lying to people who believed in him. I agree with Jaanza about Tara Setmeyer's 'word vomit' comment. It was very disappointing to see the repulsive Trump spokesperson Katrina Pierson back on 360 but at least AC pushed back on her nonsense--so K-Lee was MIA but we still have to put up with Trump's other horrid surrogates like Pierson now. Ugh.

Judging from Gary Tuchman's report, I don't think the Amish will do much to help Trump or Hillary win the election.

Jack Hannah made a lot of sense with his observations on the decision by the Chicago Zoo to shoot the gorilla in order to save the child--it was a tragedy to have to kill such a magnificent and beautiful animal and the child's parents should've been watching him more closely, but Hannah's experience with these silverback gorillas give him great insight into their behavior and why things had to go the way they did.

Only in 2016 can a person raise millions for vets and get attacked by media... smh... Trump has every right to blast the media along with other vet groups which they did yesterday. The media are just savages and CNN is top biller... of garbage.

I agree with CWM84. Why is it Trump keeps getting attacked non-stop but Clinton has gotten away with so much. They bring it up every now and then but CNN usually tries to cover it up and seem like it's not as big of a deal as it actually is. For example AC tried to defend Clinton on the accusation that she blamed a teenage victim of rape whom she represented decades ago. He said that CNN has never said anything about it, but they had. There were multiple websites that called him out on it.

I FOR ONE, LOVE TO HEAR ABOUT TRUMP U, OR AS I LIKE TO CALL IT, THE TRUMP SCHOOL FOR THE MENTALLY CHALLENGED. AND TRUMP, BEING THE PRESIDENT OF THAT SCHOOL, MAKES THE WHOLE ORDEAL
EVEN MORE APPEALING.
ACCORDING TO HUFFPOST, THERE ARE 3500 LAWSUITS PENDING AGAINST MR T....GOOD
NAME FOR HIM. HE LOVES GOLD ANYWAY, AFTER A VIRTUAL TOUR OF HIS PENTHOUSE.
AND JUST THIS AFTERNOON, A CNN SCROLL SAID TRUMP WASN'T GOING TO RESPOND TO ANY OF THE ACCUSATIONS BECAUSE, "HE'D WIN IF HE WAS IN A COURT OF LAW." WHAT?
YES, BERNIE SANDERS WAS RIGHT WHEN HE SAID THAT "TRUMP WAS A CRAZY PERSON, AND WE JUST DON'T
KNOW HOW TO REACT TO A PERSON WHO IS MENTALLY UNSTABLE."
THANKS BERNIE. GOOD QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE PRESIDENCY. I FEEL BETTER NOW.

@CWM84 - - Trump did not legitimately raise "millions" for vets. Some of the alleged charity went to sleazy organizations, not to veterans and some of the money Trump claimed for months he donated was not in fact donated until the media asked for proof.

You'd expect the media to do the same for Hillary Clinton, right?

If a candidate can't face the scrutiny and accountability involved with running for office, he or she should get out of the race.

@JAANZA: EXACTLY RIGHT. I HEARD THE SAME REPORT AND WE BOTH KNOW TRUMP CAN'T BE ACCOUNTABLE
FOR HIS ACTIONS AND IT IS ABOUT TIME THE MEDIA MADE HIM ACCOUNTABLE.
WHAT IF THE UNTHINKABLE HAPPENS, IS HE NOT GOING TO HOLD PRESS CONFERENCES? WILL HE BAN ALL
JOURNALISTS FROM REPORTING ON HIS ACTIONS? WILL HE BAN THE TRUTH? WHAT HAPPENS TO OUR DEMOCRACY??
IF HE ACTS LIKE THIS NOW, IT IS AN INDICATION OF HOW HE WILL ACT AS (GFB), THE PRESIDENT?
JON STEWART WAS RIGHT, HE IS A MAN/BABY.

Problem is media takes it easy on Clinton. There is plenty to go after her but they are passive when it comes to her... msm are all own by liberals.
