Anderson Cooper 360 on Monday, July 18, 2016 Live from the RNC

Anderson Cooper anchored AC360 from inside the Republican National Convention Hall in Cleveland, OH.    He began on air coverage with Wolf Blitzer in The Situation Room and after AC360 was part of CNN's convention coverage through the midnight ET hour.

I have very little to say about the GOP convention because I watched very little of it.

At :35 into 360's usual time slot I checked out what was on. Kaleigh McEnany was on. She was talking even though the convention was happening behind her and a speaker was at the podium. However, the program guide had this hour labelled "Anderson Cooper 360" and "Republican National Convention" starting at 9 pm (EST). So I guess they could ignore the convention until 9.

For a little more than 20 minutes I channel surfed. The times I landed on CNN there was Scott Baio being interviewed, Jeffrey Lord parroting Trump talking points and video of the Trump motorcade arriving. That was it for TV for the night.

Did anyone watch more of the convention?

So the speech Melania gave had parts lifted from Michelle Obama's speech. That's called plagiarism folks. Melania claims she wrote the speech with as little help as possible. Will Donald fire her? Will he fire the speech writer? Will he apologize? Be transparent? Promise to do better going forward? That's what is expected of a leader. Mr. Trump, you're center stage on this one and it's your campaign, so yes, you are responsible.

Watching Anderson, Tapper, Blitzer and their Republican pundits try to downplay it was astounding. Glad that Axelrod and Van Jones spoke up and didn't back down.

Anderson and the rest of CNN pundits/commentators would have excoriated Michelle Obama if she had lifted parts of a speech by Nancy Reagan or Laura Bush but they went out of their way to make excuses for Melania's plagiarism--it was disgusting to watch this biased double-standard on full display. I did manage to catch Jake Tapper calling it what it was--plagiarism, but he still spent as much time as AC trying to save poor, innocent little Melania's fraudulent backside. I loved hearing Van Jones shutting AC and the panel down over their ludicrous defense of Melania. On Don Lemon's show, K-lee was spinning furiously but Bakari Sellers, Amanda Carpenter and even that nasty Trump twerp Andy Dean had to admit that Mrs. Trumpster screwed up big time and that Trump and his team should just own up to it. POTUS and FLOTUS really DO give the best speeches, so good that even their harshest critics, the Trumpies, have steal them. I love the idea of the bigoted, Obama-hating GOP audience cheering parts of a speech that Michelle Obama gave without even knowing it. They know now and so does the rest of the country.

Good night of speeches the best was Sheriff Clarke. He is the real deal. Guliani was fired up! This election is very important. Do we want someone who thinks she is above the law, who decisions caused death and mayhem in libya... someone who is wall street owned, someone who gives positions to the top donors... someone who gets millions of middle east women where women are abused and gays executed via the law? I mean Hillary is just the most corrupt politician dems could have nominated. She is part of the crooked, corrupt, 1 percent powerful who will need make the changes this countries needs. She cares more about illegals, refugees than americans. Its all for votes and to continue the same old, same old corrupt policies... Hillary voted for Iraq.. I mean this is not change. She will raise taxes, she won't unify the country with her anti police and stoking racial tensions in black community. I say of not trump vote third party... this woman has and always will be a diaster who has never been for america... she defended a child rapist for goodness sakes and laughed when he got off... I simply can't vote for her.

Sheriff clarke put don lemon the big race baiter in his place. They had to cut off sheriff clarke because he spoke the truth...hahaha CNN has a serious conflict of interest. Time warner donated 1 million to Clinton campaign. So that's why they take it so easy on Clinton... time warner of course owns CNN.

I would rather have HRC than a n idiot who thinks that he is god, god's gift to women and the savior of the free world. No one is telling you to vote for HRC, but when Satan gets into office don't say you weten't warned.

You are doing nothing except spouting the GOP talking points, how about being original and stating facts along with credible sources.

Crazy Sheriff Clarke and racist Giuliani are what's wrong with the GOP and why MILLIONS of voters will make darn sure that Trump NEVER sets foot in the White House.

You will be surprised in November. Millions will NEVER put lying, cheating, big establishment, crooked, wall street owned, someone who voted for Iraq, created a disaster all over middle east, who lies to american people over and over again white house.

Again you claim to state facts, but do not give sources. Just like a Drump surrogate.

The coverage of the RNC is as excellent as ever. However, the balance between the level of the audio of the CNN speakers and the RNC speakers is very very annoying. The viewer should be able to hear all of what the CNN people are saying and just know that there is speaking going on on the convention floor. The viewers can't really hear what is going on on the floor so it should be dialed WAY back. Horrible.
Annoying.
Crazy making.

Please rebalance the sound between the CNN announcers and the RNC floor. The floor noise is much too loud. I can't make out what the CNN speakers are saying.

@ariesmoon You are fighting a loosing battle. Facts seem to bounce of Trump supporters, just like they bounce off Trump! Trump supporters can't back up their talking points with facts because there are no facts to back up most of their talking points. I can't wait for President Obama to take him on in earnest. I'm so looking forward to President Obama and President Clinton speaking next week.

Just how many former presidents are speaking at the RNC? Oh, that's right, none. The Bush's want nothing to do with Trump.

@anon 1:17 am, you are correct, Trump supporters and the GOP base are in their own world and don't care that the person they have nominated is an insane, incoherent, know-nothing, lying, scamming racist and sexist con who repulses most people who can think clearly and see how much of a danger and threat he is to this country's future. There are credible people in both parties and world leaders who are VERY apprehensive about a Trump presidency--he is a menace who goes against everything this country is supposed to stand for. If you look at Trump and think he's a more competent, intelligent, honest and stable person than Hillary Clinton, you deserve everything you get if this madman gets elected, but the rest of us do not.
