Anderson Cooper 360 on Tuesday, August 23, 2016

Anderson Cooper anchored an expanded two hour edition of AC360 from the NYC studio, the first 40 minutes being the promotion of Donald Trump with Trump's new campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway.  While Anderson said AC360 reached out to the Clinton campaign with an offer to appear on the program and they declined, he did not say exactly when the offer was made so there's no way to know if it was logistically an option, if they were offered another date if it that was the issue or they just plain declined to come on the program.    We say promotion of Trump because we've seen Anderson go after people with facts when he wants to and tonight feisty Anderson wasn't in the studio.

Anderson Cooper is scheduled to be a guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert tomorrow night, Wednesday, August 24th.

Anderson is still my favorite TV guy. At this point I'm putting a huge space between the man and his show because once again 360 sucked.

ATA already told you that 40 minutes of the first hour was an interview with Kellyanne Conway. 360 started with Anderson talking about Trump ("...Trump will be speaking shortly tonight in Texas, we'll listen to that...') and, although he previewed several other stories I wasn't listening because I was fervently praying 'Please don't broadcast the Trump speech, please, please, PLEASE!!!.'
Thankfully the first hour ended and I went to Maddow so I don't know if that Trump speech was broadcast or not.
After the intro, Anderson spoke with Jason Carroll about Trump, his "softening" immigration policy, his supporters who wouldn't want that and his "reaching out" to African-American voters.
Next it was Jeff Zeleny's turn to talk about Hillary Clinton, the Clinton Foundation, allegations of "pay for play" and conflict of interest and Hillary's response.
Then Anderson's interview with Conway started. She's one of the newest bigwigs in the Trump campaign meaning she's one of the biggest spin doctors and parrots.
Thank goodness for Hayes and football.

Much later in the first hour the panel of 6 convened. The first question went to Jeffrey Lord so I went back to Hayes. When Hayes went to commercial break a few minutes later and I went back to 360, Anderson was still talking with Lord.

Anderson/360 made an offer to Hillary's campaign? Like ATA, I also question when the offer was made and if it meant a combined interview sitting next to Conway. Anderson/360 should keep the offer open for another day, you know, for the appearance of being "fair and balanced" to both sides.

I laughed at Kellyanne Conway bring up Chris Christie calling for a special prosecutor for Hillary Clinton and the Clinton Foundation. What standing does he have after the latest in Bridgegate? I think there's a better chance he'll be prosecuted. No mention from Anderson tonight on Trump's taxes. When Kellyanne was working for the Cruz campaign she was calling for Trump to release his taxes among other things. Also no mention of Trump bilking his supporters by quadrupling the amount he's charging for his campaign headquarters in Trump Tower. His whole campaign is one big scam.

I was happy to see Anderson talking to Sanjay and exposing Trump's "fake" doctor's report. To bad that wasn't at the beginning of the program instead of buried late in the second hour.

And yes, Anderson, face it; Republicans don't care about people getting their low cost HIV-Aids medication because they don't care about gay people. To them being gay is a choice you made/wrong/a sin and they don't care about you unless you go to their gay conversion therapy.

I couldn't stomach listening to much of AC's interview with Kelly Anne Conway--Anderson's still way too enamored with Trump's 'style'. I suspect he'd be a lot harder on a Clinton surrogate and probably wouldn't give them as much time as he did Conway. Conway has been critical of Trump in the past and I'm sure the Clinton campaign will use that to their advantage.

I love Paul Begala, but sometimes he's too jokey and overly complimentary of Republicans who don't deserve it (same goes for Van Jones and Bakari Sellars)--on Tuesday however, Begala was feisty and righteously angry about the way the press is going after the Clinton Foundation and the Clintons--he said that GOP politicians have had similar charities and were never scrutinized or picked apart by Democrats or the press--Begala said the Clintons are always being demonized by the right and the press--this was met with silence by AC and the other panelists, but Begala was correct. I'd love to see Paul Begala speak out as strongly in defense of Hillary Clinton as he did on Tuesday more often. Anna Navarro also had some choice words for the lies and hypocrisy of Trump. And ick, no K-Lee but the ghoul Jeff Lord was back.

The interviews/reports with Sanjay Gupta and Arwa Damon were much more interesting and informative than the parts of the interview I heard with Conway. Of course there was no mention of President Obama's trip to flood ravaged Baton Rouge where he offered up concrete solutions and not just a Playdoh photo op like Trumpence.

@Anon 11:52 PM - Thanks for the info on Sanjay Gupta covering Trump's "doctor." All too often the second hour is just a repeat of the first but sometimes there is a gem that should have been in the first hour. Gupta's report is one of those gems.

The CNN website has a link to Gupta's report but it does not include a talk with Anderson The 360 website doesn't have either.

Historically, 360's second hour gets lower ratings than the first. Although I rarely watch the second hour, it still annoys me to hear about great reports that are broadcast there instead of the first hour.

ATA, I humbly request would you please post the Gupta report and the talk afterwards?

HUFFPOST IS REPORTING THAT TRUMP WILL ONLY GIVE FURTHER INTERVIEWS ON FOX NEWS BECAUSE, ACCORDING TO "THE JACK ASS," THEY'RE FAIR AND BALANCED.
WHAT? CNN WAS SOOOO OVERLY UNFAIR AND UNBALANCED AND TIPPED THE SCALE SO MANY TIMES IN TRUMP'S DIRECTION, IT COULD HAVE REPLACED THE LAST SCENE IN THE MOVIE TITANIC, WHERE THE SHIP IS
TILTING AT AN ANGLE AND EVERYONE IS JUMPING OVERBOARD.
THIS MUST BE ROGER AILES' IDEA, SINCE HE IS A FRIEND OF TRUMP AND IS SUPPOSEDLY PREPARING
PRESIDENT JACK ASS, FOR THE DEBATES. YES, HE'S REALLY THE ONE TO BE THE ROYAL MENTOR.
TRUMP HAS A HOLLOW SHELL FOR A BRAIN AND THERE'S NOTHING IN IT NOW EXCEPT HIS SINKING POLL NUMBERS, AND THEY'LL BE NOTHING IN IT FOR THE FIRST DEBATE.
OH WAIT. HE HAS NO POLICY PLANS BECAUSE HE KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT GOVERNMENT OR POLICY SO AILES WILL FILL HIS EMPTY HEAD WITH "TALKING POINTS" ABOUT THE CLINTON FOUNDATION AND HOW
COME NOVEMBER, WHEN HE LOSES, HE CAN SAY HOW ALL ELECTIONS ARE RIGGED, AND WAIT FOR IT, HE WILL FILE A FAUX LAW SUIT.....JUST TO SHOW THE PUBLIC HE'S MORE OF A MORON THAN WE THOUGHT HE WAS.
