Anderson Cooper 360 on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 + Live with Kelly & Late Show with Stephen Colbert

Anderson Cooper anchored an expanded two hour edition of AC360 from the NYC studio.  Anderson opened the program saying he would have an exclusive live interview with Hillary Clinton.  About half way through the second hour, Hillary Clinton phoned into AC360 for a conversation:

The follow up discussion with David Axelrod was interesting and then the panel seemed to go off the rails and Anderson gave up and threw to Don Lemon::

Anderson was a guest co-host on Live with Kelly this (Wednesday) morning.  While the program is dark for 4 weeks (until September 6th) Anderson and Kelly taped a new host chat and travel trivia during one of his previous guest co-host stints.  The guest segments were all repeats.

The truth behind Trump's finances  was a segment that was recorded Monday, but never made it to air.  It was posted on the Anderson Cooper 360 website.  CNN's Anderson Cooper speaks with Susanne Craig, Boris Epshteyn and Timothy O'Brien about Donald Trump's finances:

Thought Hillary Clinton did a good job on AC360. You could tell that feisty Anderson was trying to get her to slip up, but she wasn't having it. I had hoped Anderson would have reported on the sloppy reporting by the AP on the Clinton Foundation, but he seemed stuck on the GOP talking point of "pay to play" of which there was no proof of for people that read the AP article instead of just the headline and per the State Department investigation. The GOP has always wanted a special prosecutor when dealing with the Clintons. Where's the special prosecutor for Chris Christie with Bridgegate. Some aids came forward a couple weeks ago basically implicating him. I guess CNN can only report on Trump?

I really enjoyed Anderson with Stephen Colbert. I loved that Steven was sticking it to him on Kayleigh McEnany. I think everyone has her number. And it was cute when they geeked out over Dungeons and Dragons. I was hoping he'd show a recent picture of Lilly.

Interesting that the segment on Trump's finances got buried on the 360 website and wasn't aired. I think there's a lot in those tax returns if the public ever gets to see them. Anderson should be asking about the tax returns every night. Kellyanne Conway asked for Trump to release them when she was with the Cruz campaign. She said a lot of things about Trump during that time. I'm guessing the Clinton Campaign will be using that.

And Anderson needs to call Trump's "shift in immigration" what it is - a flip-flop and apparently he flip-flops on it daily, saying one thing in the FOX Town Hall and another at his rally Wednesday night. It's really becoming apparent the Emperor has no clothes and a lot to hide.

Also missing from AC360 was a report on President Obama's trip to Louisiana and the real solutions he was able to deliver vs. the Trump photo op, but then AC360 waded into the "why didn't he visit earlier" GOP talking point instead of acknowledging what he was doing while on vacation from day one of the disaster and stayed away at the request of the Governor until the search and rescue phase was past. I was hoping for a follow up on AC360 on what Trump actually donated to the area. The only article I saw said he unloaded a truck for 59 seconds, met with some people and pledged a donation to anti-gay Tony Perkins church who was still waiting for a check. I'm guessing it will take more media shaming if that check is to get delivered.

So much Trump in Wednesday's 360. I've waffled a lot on watching Trump segments; currently I'll watch reports but not Trump parrots like Kellyanne Conway. And i still hate the panels of too many pundits.

I was five minutes late; Anderson was talking with David Axelrod and it turned out to be a Q&A among three political experts. Besides Axelrod the only other two were Dana Bash and John King. Just three on a panel works out just fine, even better that they were all (mostly) non-partisan. The talk was on Trump's campaign, his "major shift" on immigration policy, use of teleprompters and his misguided strategy. King wondered why Trump was so focused on immigration when he should have been shouting about the Clinton Foundation.

The Clinton campaign, Clinton Foundation allegations and Trump's own donation to the Foundation got half a segment. Jeff Zeleny reported and then chatted with Anderson. Then Jim Acosta talked with Anderson about Trump's immigration policy and how it's changed. The upcoming Hillary Clinton interview was mentioned by Anderson and the on-screen titles and I bet myself that it wouldn't happen until the second hour. I won that bet.

Once again the Trump speech to African-Americans was on ("Give me a chance!") leading into a Gary Tuchman report from a living room full of African-Americans watching Trump's speech. "Most were not happy with what they were hearing." said Tuchman. Although there were 2 or 3 Trump supporters, most were very doubtful about Trump.

The final segment of the first hour was on the earthquake in Italy with a report and a chat with Frederik Pietgen.

Big thanks, ATA, for all the extras in today's post. I watched the video that began with David Axelrod and ended with the panel. The guy who said Hillary hasn't been doing interviews or being on the news like Trump has been every day forgot that Hillary has been making campaign stops and speeches nearly every day and so does Trump. But it's Trump who's been wacky so he gets the media attention instead of Hillary who's beem normal.
The bulk of the panel discussion was on Hillary's email broohaha and the Clinton Foundation. Although Christine Quinn and the guy in glasses ('we're obsessing over these things instead of talking abou differences in important issues...') did a good job, overall I still dont' want to watch further panels.

What a difference it was to go right to the Colbert videos. It was cute (Anderson and Colbert 'man-hug'), revealing (both played Dungeons and Dragons), frustrating (Anderson wouldn't admit that some of the panel members are "bat-shit crazy"), infuriating (Anderson's defense of Kristen McEnany though I guess he has to be diplomatic), funny (watching Brazilian Olympic coverage and not Brazilian porn), interesting (hearing Anderson talk about Trump but nothing he said was revealing) and informative (info about the debates).

The video focusing on Trump's finances would not play. I will check the 360 website.

However, the video with Sanjay Gupta did work. I enjoyed the clip from Jimmy Kimmel but wonder why this wasn't a longer segment which included Gupta's report (seen on the CNN website). Gupta had all kinds of good information about the letter, the phrases in it and the qualifications of the doctor.

@ATA - sorry about the snafu with posting twice, once under another's name and once as myself. Please delete the other name one.

JAANZA MUST HAVE A GOOD SENSE OF HUMOR AFTER HEARING THAT BLATANTLY FALSE MD'S REPORT.
THIS JUST SHOWS US ALL HOW UTTERLY STUPID TRUMP IS.....ALL HIS TESTS WERE "POSITIVE!" WHICH IN
THE MEDICAL FIELD MEANS THAT HE HAS EVERY DISEASE KNOWN TO MANKIND....I COULD SEE THAT GUPTA
WAS ALMOST STARTING TO GIGGLE WHEN HE SAID THAT. TRUMP CAN'T GET THE MEANINGS OF POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE TERMS STRAIGHT AND WE'RE GOING TO TRUST THIS NUMBSKULL WITH NUCLEAR CODES???
DONALD, YOU ILLITERATE BOOB TUBE, YOU HAVE AGAIN OPENED YOUR MOUTH AND SHOWN US YOUR IGNORANCE.
IF YOU HAVE A BLOOD TEST, YOU'RE DECLARED HEALTHY AND NORMAL IF EVERYTHING YOU'VE BEEN TESTED
FOR IS NEGATIVE! POSITIVE FINDINGS ARE PATHOLOGICAL AND IN NEED OF MORE TESTING!
HILLARY'S SPEECH TODAY WAS TERRIFIC. LOVE IT WHEN SHE SAID TRUMP QUESTIONED HER OWN HEALTH:
"DREAM ON DONALD, DREAM ON."
AND HIS MASSIVE FIRINGS OF EVERYONE RUNNING HIS CAMPAIGN WERE LIKE "SCENES FROM THE APPRENTICE," GREAT LINE.
LOVE JAANZA'S LINE ON THE GARY TUCHMAN REPORT: " A ROOM FULL OF AFRO-AMERICANS." DID GARY COUNT THOSE THAT CAN'T STOMACH WATCHING TRUMP AND LEFT?? MORE LIKE A NATION FULL OF AFRO-AMERICANS.

@Jaanza -

We checked and all the videos seem to play okay. The video from Tuesday night that you requested included Dr. Gupta's discussion with Anderson about Trump's strange doctor's report. There was no report from Dr. Gupta on Tuesday's AC360. Hope this helps.

@ATA - I'm blaming my computer. The video played just fine on the better computer today.

The CNN website had a report from Gupta on the homepage for a while. Maybe it was packaged for the other CNN programs.

Typical Hillary interview. Evasive, lies and blame everyone else... typical. AC should get credit for trying to get her talk a bit, after all its been over 270 days without her having a press confrence. Instead when asked a question she talks about chocolate... weird. The foundation and her tenure at state department was a pay for play operation and the emials, leaks of phone calls and her appointment to one top donor in particular is more than enough evidence. ABC question the appointment of one person and he quickly resigned. Look it up, I know everyone here is a liberal and voting for Hillary but there is smoke and fire Hillary. Hillary is fortunate in one thing. The President has endorsed her and she is part of powerful, political, 1 lercent elite who can evade the law!

And Dump and his surrogates don't lie. Every word out of Chump's mouth is either a lie or an insult, just like yours. If you have read anything NOT from the RIght you will see the AP lied about the Clinton Foundation.

Hey, who remembers when good ole AC moderated a discussion for the Clinton Foundation in 2006?

I read all kinds of news and I know enough to know Hillary is not some innocent angel the left and her suppoeters pretend she is. I know she is owned by wall street and middle east brought. I know she flip flops based on what is popular, I know she lied about emails, her mentor was klansman and her hero was a woman who said she wanted to rid the black race. I know people are losing their jobs and lives for trying to ecpose her or talk about her health. I know for years she took Trumps money and did favors for money wealthy donors. She is NOT innocent.
