From The 60 Minutes website:

Preview: Nate Parker
Anderson Cooper interviews director Nate Parker whose film "The Birth of a Nation" had generated a huge amount of Oscar buzz until an uproar grew over a serious incident in his past

Hollywood filmmaker Nate Parker will not apologize for the rape case he became embroiled in at college 17 years ago because, he tells Anderson Cooper, he was falsely accused and then vindicated in court. He also says it would be unfortunate if people stayed away from his new historical epic based on Nat Turner’s slave rebellion because of the incident. Parker’s film, “The Birth of a Nation,” had generated a huge amount of Oscar buzz until an uproar grew over the incident and it became widely known the woman who accused him killed herself in 2012. Parker speaks to Cooper on the next edition of 60 Minutes Sunday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. ET/PT.

Parker, who produced, directed, wrote and stars in the film based on the 1831 Virginia slave rebellion, says potential film goers shouldn’t be thinking about him. “I think that Nat Turner, as a hero, what he did in history, is bigger than me. I think it’s bigger than all of us.”

When Cooper asks him whether he thinks he did something morally wrong in 1999, he answers, “As a Christian man...just being in that situation, yeah, sure. I am 36 years old right now...my faith is very important to me...so looking back through that lens...it’s not the lens I had when I was 19 years old.”

Thirteen years after the accusation, in 2012, the woman, who 60 Minutes does not identify, killed herself. When asked if he had anything to apologize for, Parker, getting emotional, says, “I was falsely accused...I went to court...I was vindicated,” he says, “I feel terrible that this woman isn’t here...her family had to deal with that, but as I sit here, an apology is -- no.”

Thanks to Reader Jaanza for a heads up on this from a Washington Post article last week.  (Sorry it took us so long to post it, Jaanza.)

Trump tells Post he is unwilling to say Obama was born in the U.S.

Trump said he was unconcerned that moderators may decide to fact-check during the forums.

“I don’t care. My facts are good. My facts are good. I don’t get enough credit for having my facts right,” Trump said. “They’ll say I’m wrong even when I’m right.”

Trump took an unprompted shot at Cooper, who is one of the moderators selected by the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates. Trump said he would take part in the debate moderated by Cooper but remains unhappy with his selection.

“I don’t think Anderson Cooper should be a moderator, because Anderson Cooper works for CNN and over the last couple of days, I’ve seen how Anderson Cooper behaves,” Trump said. “He’ll be very biased, very biased. I don’t think he should be a moderator. I’ll participate, but I don’t think he should be a moderator. CNN is the Clinton News Network and Anderson Cooper, I don’t think he can be fair.”

Anderson Cooper on Wednesday, September 14, 2016

Anderson Cooper, television personality with CNN, moderates an event to unveil the plans for the new park at the Hudson Yards development, September 14, 2016 in New York City. The Hudson Yards Public Square and Gardens is set to open in 2018.

The very capable John Berman was in the AC360 anchor chair in Anderson's absence.

As Hudson Yards transforms Midtown West, a special ceremony took place today at 11 a.m. that revealed design plans for a 5-acre public square and garden inside the 28-acre mega-complex. Anderson Cooper was the host and Mayor Bill de Blasio presided, alongside Related Companies founder and CEO Stephen Ross

Anderson Cooper and New York Mayor Bill de Blasio Attend Thomas Heatherwick Unveiling

With its vast Hudson Yards development on the west side of Manhattan, the Related Companies has promised not only new buildings but a new neighborhood. Yet the size of the project (whose central tower is taller than the Empire State Building) and its placement over an accordion of railroad tracks could make the neighborhood feel elusive. That’s why Steve Ross, the chairman of Related, traveled the world looking for a way to bring the development down to human scale. He eventually chose Thomas Heatherwick, the London-based designer, to create a centerpiece for Hudson Yards—one that would sit in the middle of a public space as big as Trafalgar Square.

“That’s a lot of responsibility,” said Heatherwick, a soft-spoken Brit, before today’s unveiling of his design: a basket-shaped tower made of 250 interlocking stairways in a configuration worthy of M. C. Escher. Nearly 16 stories tall, the structure will dominate a five-acre public square designed by landscape architect Thomas Woltz of Nelson Byrd Woltz. Heatherwick said he envisioned fitness-obsessed New Yorkers running up and down the stairs at 6:00 a.m. and others taking their time exploring “an infinite number of routes.” The tower, which is being fabricated in Italy at an estimated cost of $150 million, will be able to accommodate up to 1,000 people at once. It’s been christened Vessel—“at least until someone comes up with a better, funnier, New Yorkier name,” Heatherwick said. At an unveiling ceremony this morning in Manhattan, emceed by Anderson Cooper and attended by New York mayor Bill de Blasio, Ross said, “Everyone who comes to New York visits the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center. We were looking for a 365-day Christmas tree.”
