Anderson Cooper 360 on Tuesday & Wednesday, November 22 & 23, 2016

With Anderson Cooper on vacation in Brazil (pictured above with Wilbert Das who built his Trancoso home and his partner) the very capable John Berman has been in the AC360 anchor chair.

One of many topics not covered on AC360 was reported in The New York Post:

Donald Trump’s media summit was a ‘f−−−ing firing squad’

Donald Trump scolded media big shots during an off-the-record Trump Tower sitdown on Monday, sources told The Post. “It was like a f−−−ing firing squad,” one source said of the encounter.

“Trump started with [CNN chief] Jeff Zucker and said, ‘I hate your network, everyone at CNN is a liar and you should be ashamed,’ ” the source said.

“The meeting was a total disaster. The TV execs and anchors went in there thinking they would be discussing the access they would get to the Trump administration, but instead they got a Trump-style dressing-down,” the source added.

A second source confirmed the fireworks.

“The meeting took place in a big boardroom and there were about 30 or 40 people, including the big news anchors from all the networks,” the other source said.

“Trump kept saying, ‘We’re in a room of liars, the deceitful, dishonest media who got it all wrong.’ He addressed everyone in the room, calling the media dishonest, deceitful liars. He called out Jeff Zucker by name and said everyone at CNN was a liar, and CNN was [a] network of liars,” the source said.

“Trump didn’t say [NBC reporter] Katy Tur by name, but talked about an NBC female correspondent who got it wrong, then he referred to a horrible network correspondent who cried when Hillary lost who hosted a debate — which was Martha Raddatz, who was also in the room.”

The stunned reporters tried to get a word in edgewise to discuss access to a Trump administration.

“[‘CBS Good Morning’ co-host Gayle] King did not stand up, but asked some question, ‘How do you propose we the media work with you?’ Chuck Todd asked some pretty pointed questions. David Muir asked, ‘How are you going to cope living in DC while your family is in NYC?’ It was a horrible meeting.”

Trump spokeswoman Kellyanne Conway told reporters the gathering went well.

“Excellent meetings with the top executives of the major networks,” she said during a gaggle in the lobby of Trump Tower. “Pretty unprecedented meeting we put together in two days.”

The meeting was off the record, meaning the participants agreed not to talk about the substance of the conversations.

The hour-long session included top execs from network and cable news channels. Among the attendees were NBC’s Deborah Turness, Lester Holt and Chuck Todd; ABC’s James Goldston, George Stephanopoulos, David Muir and Martha Raddatz; CBS’ Norah O’Donnell, John Dickerson, Charlie Rose, Christopher Isham and King; Fox News’ Bill Shine, Jack Abernethy, Jay Wallace and Suzanne Scott; MSNBC’s Phil Griffin, and CNN’s Jeff Zucker and Erin Burnett.

Arthur Sulzberger, publisher of the New York Times, plans to meet with Trump on Tuesday.

There was no immediate comment from the Trump Team.

A post about Tuesday's 360 content can be found on Monday's ATA comment page; it's #17.

Wednesday's 360
Berman started with news of Trump skipping many of the daily security briefs since he's been elected and his two new Cabinet picks. Jason Carroll had the report on SC Gov. Nikki Haley chosen for U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. and Betsy Devoss for Secretary of Education; there might be a position for Ben Carson. Joe Johns followed with a report on Gov. Haley, not only her dissing Trump during the campaign but also her lack of international and diplomatic experience. A clip of Trump's Thanksgiving video ("Unity!") was played. A panel of 5 or 6 (Berman mentioned Jeffrey Lord, maybe he was beaming in from another location) and I left.

After a brief video of Obama pardoning the Thanksgiving turkey, there was several clips of guys in the Trump camp arguing against Romney being in the Cabinet. Then the panel again.

Computer experts state there may have been problems with counting the vote in MI, PA and WI. That and the possibility of cyberattack hacking means there should be a recount in those states. Tom Foreman reported on these allegations and if a recount would happen. When talking to Berman Foreman stated Hillary Clinton is now more than 2 million votes ahead of Trump in the popular vote. More panel.

Because Trump is spending Thanksgiving at Mar-A-Lago in Florida there was a report on security there. Berman also spoke with Marc Ambinder about Trump Tower security in Manhattan.

The last segment of the first hour was a report on Thanksgiving holiday travel.

The second hour had the same start as the first.

@CAPPY - regarding your post, #19 in Monday's comments, about Aries Moon and me being voices of reason - Golly gee willikers. After I wrote about panelists dressing as Queen Elizabeth and dancing like llamas I thought someone would tell me to put down the Jack Daniels. Honestly though there was no Jack Daniels involved. I just wanted the pundits to do something besides the usual prattle and blather. Come to think of it, that's not so unreasonable. Okay then! Bring on the tiaras and the llamas!!! And just watch the Nielsens go through the roof!
Thanks, CAPPY!

@Pragya - on your post, #20 on Monday's ATA, about Zucker stating CNN will be tough on Trump. Sounds good but let's see what happens.

@ATA - thanks for including the New York Post article on Trump's meeting with various media honchos. The article states Trump called everyone at CNN liars and said a female MSNBC reporter got it wrong. Maybe Trump had specific concrete examples of the lying and the wrongness and the Post didn't put those in the article. More likely Trump was throwing a temper tantrum because he doesn't like honest coverage of himself. Will any in the media water themselves down to avoid a Trump blast? Will 360 and CNN? Will Zucker honestly be tough? To repeat myself we'll just have to wait and see.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

ACCORDING TO CNN AND HUFFPOST, PRESIDENT ELECT DRUMPF, HAS DECIDED NOT TO TAKE DAILY SECURITY BRIEFINGS. NOW WE ALL KNOW HIS BRAIN IS NOT QUITE AS LARGE AS FORMER PRESIDENTS, BUT IT IS PART OF
HIS JOB. HE WANTED IT, SUPPOSEDLY. AND HE GOT IT. PENCE, HIS VP, IS TAKING THE BRIEFINGS NOW, SERIOUSLY. THOUGH DRUMPF'S ATTENTION SPAN IS LIMITED, AT LEAST MAKE AN ATTEMPT OR MAKE BELIEVE YOU WANT
TO KNOW MORE THAN YOU ALREADY DO ABOUT THE GLOBAL SITUATIONS IN OUR DIVERSE ECONOMY. WOULDN'T THIS BE A FIRST STEP IN MAKING AMERICA GREAT, AGAIN? OR YOU DON'T NEED BRIEFINGS BECAUSE YOU HAVE A SIXTH SENSE AND DON'T WANT TO ENLIGHTEN YOURSELF?
YOU HAVE BEEN PRESIDENT ELECT FOR TWO WEEKS AND THE JOB IS TOO OVERWHELMING? THEN GIVE IT TO PENCE.
NO ONE ELECTED HIM BUT AT LEAST HE'S WILLING TO BROADEN HIS INTELLECT. YOUR JOB IS TO DEFEND THE NATION
AND YOU ARE DOING EXACTLY WHAT WE ALL FEARED, NOT ACCEPTING RESPONSIBILITY UNLESS IT EFFECTS YOUR
ABILITY TO ENRICH YOURSELF AND YOUR BRAND. THIS IS NOT A GOOD BEGINNING.
