Madonna, Kesha get emotional when accepting Billboard honors

Anderson Cooper introduced Madonna, his friend, with touching words. “For me as a gay teenager growing up, her music wasn’t just a soundtrack to my life, her music and her outspokenness, her willingness to stand up, her courage — it showed me as a teenager a way forward, a pathway,” he said.

So AC was on New Day yesterday to talk about CNN heroes, and they introduced him as "our very own huggable panda."

I was five minutes late to Friday's 360. Anderson was already talking to Jason Carroll who was at the Trump "FU" rally in Grand Rapids Michigan. The chyron stated Rudy Giuliani would not be Trump's Sect. of State. A panel of five of the usual pundits started with two of the more nauseating Trump parrots Jeffrey Lord and Kaliegh McEnany. I switched to Hayes.

Trump's wealthy far-right-wing Cabinet picks was the topic of discussion just between Robert Reich and Jeffrey Lord and I really liked seeing the two-person debate format. Reich obviously thought Trump's choices were bad and he explained why. Lord countered with 'nobody complained when most of Obama's Cabinet were academics but now billionaires are a problem?' Reich pointed out Trump's hypocrisy of campaigning against Wall Street but now choosing so many Wall Streeters and one-percenters and forgetting the forgotten worker. Anderson had a few clips of candidate Trump dissing Wall Streeters in general and Goldman Sachs in particular. Lord insisted Trump would be the one in charge but Reich insisted Trump will depend on their advice. Reich also said Trump ran as a "working-class populist" but has completely turned that around.

Next up was the topic of Gen. Michael Flynn, Trump's choice for National Security Advisor. Anderson started with a Q&A with Jim Sciutto about Flynn, and his past comments on Muslims and radicalization. They also talked a bit about the investigation into Russian hacking.
Unfortunately this two-person debate format didn't continue. Anderson introduced Philip Mudd, former FBI guy and counterterrorism analyst. After two good questions for the expert Anderson then turned to McEnany for her spin. I went back to Hayes and stayed there because he was interviewing Nikita Whitlock, the NY Giants football player who's home was broken into and swastikas and pro-Trump graffiti were left behind. I felt this wouldn't be a story on 360 and it wasn't.

On 360 Anderson played a clip from Trump's Michigan speech praising a Dow Chemical guy and then segued into recapping the Carrier & Trump & Chuck Jones story about the jobs number discrepancy. This led into a Martin Savidge report on Carrier's sister plant UTEC in Huntington IN. The UTEC plant has lost jobs when corporate moved them to Mexico and will lose more when the plant shuts down completely next year. The workers there were upset not only losing their jobs but also because no one - especially Trump - was saving them. Following the report Anderson and Savidge had short chat but neither mentioned the Carrier news that came out today: many of those jobs "saved" in Indianapolis will be lost to robots.

I also missed the start of the last segment, this one on Trump being an Executive Producer of "Celebrity Apprentice". In a clip Kellyanne Conway said 'no problem, Trump will do it in his spare time'. Randi Kaye's report had a lot on the history of "The Apprentice" and "Celebrity Apprentice" but not enough on how much time an Executive Producer needs to devote to an upcoming television series.

@Pragya - thanks for the info yesterday about when Anderson cut away from Trump's speech to resume the panel. I was enjoying the football game and didn't break away to check 360 until far too long later. On the flip side, I'm glad I was wrong. Too often in the past CNN / 360 would air all of Trump's speeches. Maybe they've learned that it's all the same old babbling rant? Or have ratings shown people in the post-election world don't want to hear Trump as much and will change the channel? Let's see what happens if Trump has another "FU" speech.

When will Trump voters wake up and realize that their man of the people hero is a lying fraud? Nothing he does seems to matter to them including the fact that he's filling his cabinet with Goldman Sachs/Wall Street crooks who screwed his supporters over in the first place--Robert Reich has really been great at exposing Trump's hypocrisy. One of the best things about the Reich/Lord debate was when Lord got cut off before he could respond to a comment by Reich--I could use a lot more of Lord being cut off on 360. Phillip Mudd has also had some strong, smart criticism of Trump and his cabinet picks. The segment on General Flynn and his habit of latching onto conspiracy theories was good as well--several months ago, AC interviewed Flynn and AC seemed to be pretty impressed with him--I remember AC complimenting him for something (a book or some kind of war strategy) I wonder how he feels about the guy now? Flynn is a nut.

Nice photos of AC from the Madonna event.

IT IS UNFORTUNATE, BUT MOST TRUMP SUPPORTERS ARE GOING TO CONTINUE TO SUPPORT HIM EVEN THOUGH THEY
KNOW INTUITIVELY, HE WILL NEVER BE "A MAN OF THE PEOPLE" AND REMAIN, "A LYING FRAUD."
TO THEM HE COULD DO NO WRONG UNLESS THEY ARE OUT OF WORK. THEY WILL ALWAYS GIVE HIM AN EXCUSE.
IT IS ALMOST LIKE AN ADDICTION OR A WOMAN IN AN ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIP. SHE WILL ALWAYS RETURN FOR MORE ABUSE BECAUSE SHE SEES NO WAY OUT OF THE RELATIONSHIP. THE "RUSTBELT PEOPLE" ARE OF THE SAME MIND SET. THEY'VE ALREADY LOST THEIR SELF RESPECT AND WILL KEEP ON MAKING EXCUSES FOR TRUMP'S MISSTEPS, AND LACK OF CONCERN FOR MIDDLE AMERICA.
THE CABINET GANG OF WALL STREET TYCOONS ARE LESS FRIGHTENING THAN THE PACK OF WAR MONGERING FIVE
AND SIX STAR RETIRED GENERALS. THEY ARE THERE TO REINFORCE EVERYTHING MILITARY. A CERTAIN SEGMENT OF SOCIETY MAKES MONEY DURING A WAR, AND THAT IS THEIR PURPOSE. THIS IS A VERY FRIGHTENING AGENDA.
THAT'S WHY HILLARY KEPT SAYING "TRUMP WAS DANGEROUS."

@Cappy, very well said.

CARL BERNSTEIN, OF WATERGATE FAME, CALLED TRUMP A "PATHOLOGICAL LIAR WHO HAS A DISTAIN FOR THE FACTS, AND LIES TO SUCH AN EXTENT THAT HE IS WORSE THAN NIXON." AND HE SHOULD KNOW.
BERNSTEIN WROTE A BESTSELLER ON HILLARY A FEW YEARS BACK, AND IT WAS FAR FROM GLOWING, BUT WHEN
IT CAME TO SUPPORTING HER OR TRUMP, HE HELD HIS NOSE AND VOTED FOR "HER."
KNOWING TRUMP WILL NOT TAKE TRADITIONAL BRIEFINGS FROM INTELLIGENCE SOURCES ON A DAILY BASIS
IS EVEN MORE DISCONCERTING. HIS REPLY WAS,"I AM SMART." WHAT HE MEANS IS "I AM A SMART ASS."
THIS IS VERY FRIGHTENING. EVERY PRESIDENT TOOK INTELLIGENT BRIEFINGS DAILY, EVEN IF THEY DIDN'T COMPREHEND ALL OF WHAT WAS TOLD TO THEM, SUCH AS W....BUT HE NEVER DECLINED.
SOMEONE MUST TELL TRUMP HE HAS TO DO THIS TO KEEP THIS COUNTRY SAFE. IT IS A RESPONSIBILITY THAT COMES WITH THE JOB THAT HE CAMPAIGNED FOR, AND IF HE'S NOT FIT TO MEET THIS OBLIGATION, THAN HE SHOULD
RESIGN. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND IN A DEMOCRACY WE CAN AND SHOULD NOT ACCEPT HIS LACK OF INEPTITUDE AS NORMAL, BEFORE HE TAKES THE OATH OF OFFICE TO UPHOLD THE CONSTITUTION.
@ARIES MOON: THANK YOU FOR THE COMPLIMENT AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR THOUGHT PROVOKING COMMENT PREVIOUSLY. WISH I COULD BE MORE UPLIFTING IN RESPONSE.

@jaanza

unfortunately it is the opposite trend. MSNBC beat CNN in both demo and total viewers. The same thing happened last week. Every time AC goes light on Trump coverage/is critical of him, the ratings fall below MSNBC. This is what frustrates me about liberals boycotting CNN. This will just drive them to cover Trump more. Because ultimately networks cannot survive without ratings.

Also, I find MSNBC anchors constantly attacking CNN on twitter a little distasteful. You don't see CNN anchors do that to MSNBC ones. Leave that sort of thing to Fox News.

Well looks like U.S.A. is officially Russia now, so Trump will probably just ban CNN soon and everyone will be happy.

@JAANZA: AS AN FORMER APPRENTICE WATCHER, LIKE MYSELF, WHAT DO YOU THINK OF HAVING ARNOLD REPLACING
TRUMP? DO YOU SEE THE RATINGS GOING HIGHER OR STAYING ABOUT THE SAME?
PERSONALLY, I WAS LOOSING INTEREST IN SOME OF THE 'JOBS' WHICH REQUIRED VERY LITTLE SKILL.
