Anderson Cooper 360 on Monday, December 19, 2016

With Anderson Cooper in Myanmar, the very capable John Berman was in the AC360 anchor chair for an expanded two hour edition of AC360.  Anderson first teased his location with the above photo on his Instatram account on Sunday and later added the location.  He also posted the photo below later in the day.

On Saturday he posted a photo of a Christmas Party he attended at Kelly Ripa's on Friday night.  Kelly posted a similar photo a few minutes before and Jake Shears posted it to his account as well.  Long time Anderson fans will know that Jake has been a friend of Anderson's for a long time.

Madonna was named Billboard's Women in Music, Woman of the Year on December 9th.  The awards show aired on December 13th.  Here's Anderson presenting Madonna with her award:

This isn't going to be a whole lot of help today because I didn't get to Monday's 360 until 18 minutes into it. Two people here have terrible flus... flues? Well, they're sick and I've had a lot to do.
At :18 John Berman was talking to Arwa Damon about the assassination of the Russian Ambassador to Turkey. Then it was a smart panel with three smart panelists: Graeme Wood, Robert Baer and Michael Weiss.
I 'm guessing the first segment was on the terrorism-by-truck attack on a Berlin Christmas market.

Trump has won the Electoral College. John Berman had a Q&A with Jeff Zeleny about that and Kyung Lah had a report on Christopher Suprun, the TX Elector who announced a while back he was not voting for Trump when the Electoral College met; they met and he didn't.
Are all the usual political pundits on vacation? Is that why there were no panels in the first hour? I'm not complaining I'm just surprised.

Oprah Winfrey interviewed Michelle Obama and John Berman devoted a segment to it. There were several clips, a Randi Kaye report and then a discussion with Maria Cordona and Kati Marton.

The last segment of the first hour was a tangent report on the Berlin Christmas market attack. Berman talked to Michal Sznajder by phone for more details on the truck that was used, the Polish guy found dead in the passenger compartment, the arrest of a suspect and possible motives.

The second hour started with the Berlin Christmas market attack.

If the week continues with no usual-panelists panel discussions I'll celebrate with PepdoBismal and apple juice. I'm predicting the flu will make the rounds and hit me in a day or two. Incredible timing isn't it?

Nice photos from Myanmar. It's probably a very nice place but, after I win the lottery, not one of the first 50 places I'd travel to.

Greatly appreciate Jaanza's detailed 360 recaps--I saw some kind of promo stating that CNN was going to rebroadcast Heroes around the time 360 normally airs--I didn't know that it was even on--I watched MSNBC instead. I'm sorry I missed the segment on First Lady Michelle Obama and Oprah--I have the feeling Anderson wouldn't have covered it at all if he were anchoring.

MICHELLE OBAMA'S INTERVIEW WITH OPRAH WAS INTERESTING. I SAW IT IN BITS AND PIECES AND I DO LIKE
OPRAH'S NEW LOOK WITH THE DARK FRAMES. IT SUITS HER BECAUSE SHE'S A READER AND IS A GOOD ROLE MODEL FOR ALL WOMEN.
HER SHOW GOT THE COUNTRY READING....A LOST ART.
I WILL MISS MICHELLE. SHE AND LAURA BUSH, SIT DOWN FOR THIS, ARE FRIENDLY, REALLY GOOD FRIENDS.
THE TWO SEEM TO HAVE A LOT IN COMMON. I DO REMEMBER LIKING LAURA AFTER 9/11. SHE WAS THE VOICE OF
REASON AND CALM DURING A TRAUMATIC TIME.
MICHELLE SAID THE SAME ABOUT HER HUSBAND. THAT HE WAS ALWAYS CALM ESPECIALLY COMING INTO THE GREAT
RECESSION. THE WASHINGTON POST SAID THAT PART OF THE OBAMA LEGACY HAS TO BE "SAVING THIS COUNTRY
DURING WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE THAN THE GREAT DEPRESSION." THAT'S SOMETHING THAT CANNOT BE REPEALED BY ANY REPUBLICAN.
MICHELLE TOLD OPRAH "FOLKS WILL MISS HAVING AN ADULT IN THE WHITE HOUSE." I WONDER WHO SHE WAS REFERRING TO??
