Anderson Cooper 360 on Monday, January 2, 2017

Anderson Cooper was back in the AC360 anchor chair for an expanded two hour edition of AC360 from the NYC studio.

Live With Kelly was a mix of new and old today.  Anderson was in the guest co-host chair for a shortened host chat where he and Kelly tried to pretend it was post New Year's but obviously it wasn't.

The guest segments were all old from Anderson's previous co-hosting gigs; they included Jessica Alba, Meg Ryan, Terrence Howard and a waffles vs. pancakes segment ended the program.

Anderson's back but just like the last six months nothing's going on in the world besides Trump. Well, the last segment of the first hour wasn't on Trump but 4/5 of the show on Trump is too much Trump.

I was two minutes late. Anderson was already talking to a reporter and the chyron was "Officials: "Digital Fingerprints" Link Russia To Hacking". This lead to a taped interview with Kellyanne Conway concerning Russian hacking and Trump's claim to have other information on it. Anderson had good questions and tried to get decent answers but Conway spun, obfuscated, saw political bias in the intel reports and dissed Obama and Hillary Clinton. When Anderson asked what Trump will do about North Korea's nuclear weapons program, Conway started babbling about what Trump WON'T do and complained about Obama's policy towards North Korea. Anderson asked more directly "What WILL Trump DO?" Conway said Trump will meet with his National Security Advisors and babbled some more. Anderson didn't point out that was not only a dumb answer but also not doing much of anything, where's Trump's concrete plan that is totally different from what Obama's been doing?

Russian hacking and Trump's comment that he "knows things about others don't" was also the topic of the second segment. After another clip of Conway the panel of Jeffrey Lord, Peter Beinert and Margeret Hoover started. It was the usual viewpoints and a debate on the intelligence reports, the daily briefings, facts and Trump's "gut feelings". Lord managed to squeeze in a diss on Hillary and Benghazi.

Michelle Kosinski had a report on Obama's legacy vs. Trump's goals and how this has clashed so far in the transition period. Anderson's Q&A with David Axelrod was probably the best part of the show.

More Trump, this time focusing on his Cabinet choices and Democrats promise to fully vet them. Dana Bash's report focused on a group of those nominated so far, their tax returns, possible conflicts of interest and policy issues. Then Bash joined Lord Beinert and Hoover for the panel. I switched to Hayes' sub for coverage on Bruce Springsteen's comments on Trump and the future.

The last segment of the first hour was on the New Year's Eve shooting at an Istanbul nightclub in which 39 were killed. Sara Sidner reported on what happened, the hunt for the killer and ISIS taking responsibility.
Anderson previewed the start of the second hour: Russian hacking and Trump. The scheduled CNN special on Obama's legacy was delayed an hour.

I didn't watch the second hour but checked in for a moment at around 7 minutes into it; there was Conway's interview and it sounded exactly like the one from the first hour. If you watched both hours and the second hour was substantially different from the first, please let me know.

Anderson should be a LOT tougher on Kelly Anne Conway than he is--he barely challenges her, he lets her just ramble, lie, deflect and blame Democrats--the election is OVER--KAC's annoying habit of avoiding questions by bringing up right wing talking points against Hillary Clinton and President Obama should be shut down instantly by reporters--make her answer the question. I have a bad feeling that having regular access to KAC, AC is not going to do much to push back on her endless lies--he basically just sat there while she spewed out a load of bull. I still remember him interrupting Sen. Elizabeth Warren numerous times when he interviewed her a while back--he really went after HER, but the person he should be checking the slimy lying she-devil Kelly Anne Conway--don't roll over for this horrible woman AC, do your JOB.

SORRY I MISSED THE INTERVIEW WITH CONWAY. SHE IS VERY HARD TO PIN DOWN. BILL MAHER HAS HAD HER ON
HIS SHOW NUMEROUS TIMES AND HE TOO, TRIED VERY HARD TO GET ACTUAL ANSWERS FROM HER AND SHE SPUN EVERY WORD HE SAID, LIKE A SPIDER SPINNING A WEB. THAT'S WHY SHE'S NOW GETTING BIG BUCKS AND HER HUSBAND MIGHT WELL BE A SUPREME COURT JUSTICE, IF HE GETS THE NOD.
BUT AS FOR ANDERSON'S DEFLECTING AND NOT GETTING ANSWERS TO HIS QUESTIONS, WE ALL KNOW HE CAN WHEN
HE WANTS TO. HE JUST DIDN'T FEEL LIKE MAKING THE EFFORT THIS TIME.
PERSONALLY, I DOUBT IF KELLYANNE IS GOING TO BE THERE FOR THE LONG HAUL. DRUMPF MIGHT NOT BE THERE
FOR THE LONG HAUL, SO .....IS THERE A PRESIDENT PENCE IN THE WINGS?
