At the very start of Wednesday's 360 Anderson promoted "The Messy Truth", the town hall with Van Jones airing in an hour. That was only for 15 - 20 seconds before launching into Trump wanting a voter fraud investigation. There was a clip from Trump's interview with David Muir from ABC News of Trump touting his delusions. Anderson again interviewed David Becker, author of a 2/2012 study on outdated voter rolls and one of the studies Trump points to as supporting his claims. Again Anderson and Becker went through what the study actually says, what voter fraud is and how rare it is. There was more focus today on registered voters who move to another state and laughing about Trump's diss, after being told Becker's study doesn't support his beliefs, that Becker was "groveling". Then Anderson spoke with Pamela Brown on what a possible federal investigation into voter fraud would look like and who would do it. When the panel of 4 started I went to Hayes.
Hayes interviewed Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) and then Bob Garfield on Trump's claims of voter fraud and a wider scope of Trump's lies and fantasies.

A Q&A with Jim Acosta covered who would pay for the wall, immigration, deportation, sanctuary cities crackdown and whether Mexican President Pena Nieto will still visit Trump next week as planned. Another David Muir clip was played, this one of Trump insisting Mexico will pay for the wall. Anderson had a terrific interview with former Mexican President Vicente Fox all about his opposition to the wall and vehement opposition to his country paying for it. Besides saying "Mexico will never pay for that {bleeping] wall!" Fox also pointed out that most Americans don't want to "waste their money" and discussed facts about U.S./Mexican immigration and the future of relations under Trump.

I missed the start of Anderson's interview with Jorge Ramos, Anchor on Univision. It had many of the same topics as Anderson's interview with Fox but Ramos elaborated further on Trump's ideas on deportations and delusions about Mexican immigrants.

Another Muir clip was at the start of the fourth segment, this one on Trump's idea that torture and waterboarding work. Anderson pointed out that both are illegal and then talked to Manu Raju for details. Anderson had another good interview this time with Philip Mudd on torture, how wrong it is, how wrong Trump is and the "litmus test" is not what your adversary does.

Trump also wants to "suspend" for "four months" the refugee program bringing in people from war-ravaged countries in the MidEast. Randi Kaye reported on a Syrian family who have settled in Rutland VT just a week ago. It was a pretty good report but I wish Anderson had spent half a minute commenting on the death of Mary Tyler Moore; she was legendary and one of my favorites.
Earlier I caught the end of Erin Burnett's show which was on Moore's passing so I thought for sure Anderson would also say something.

Granted it was a big news day, so many Executive Orders! And not enough time to state that GOP politicians who were so upset about Obama signing "so many" Executive Orders are silent about Trump. Anderson also didn't take a moment to tell viewers about Trump's tweet trumpeting FOX;s inauguration ratings and dissing CNN's even though they were the same.

Regarding the posts yesterday about which news Trump watches, disses or gives access to ... all in all is it really important? I'd rather have 360 and CNN go after Trump and his administration, hold them accountable, keep them honest and report the truth. If Trump doesn't like it well 'wah wah wah'. He can cry and bitch and moan but that shouldn't stop news organizations from being real journalists.

LET'S FACE IT. THE NARCISSIST IN CHIEF WANTS AN INVESTIGATION INTO VOTER FRAUD BECAUSE OF HIS
OWN NARCISSISM. IT ISN'T BECAUSE HE REALLY WANTS TO FIND OUT WHO VOTED ILLEGALLY OR THAT HE PLANS
TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT, WHICH WOULD COST A FORTUNE. HE JUST WANTS TO CONVINCE OTHERS THAT EVERYONE
WHO VOTED FOR CLINTON HAD NO RIGHT TO, AND NOBODY VOTED INTENTIONALLY AGAINST HIM. EVERYONE LIKES HIM. WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE?
SO FAR ALL HE'S ACCOMPLISHED WITH THIS FARCE IS NOISE. AND HE HAS MADE MORE NOISE TRYING TO SHOW
HOW HE CAN ONLY DAMAGE TRADE RELATIONS WITH OTHER COUNTRIES THROUGH BULLYING.
AS THE FORMER MEXICAN PRESIDENT FOX SAID TO TRUMP LAST FALL, "MEXICO IS NOT PAYING FOR YOUR F---
WALL." EVERYONE IS LINING UP IT SEEMS TO SEE JUST HOW CRAZY TRUMP REALLY IS.
IN DEALING MAKING 101, DON JUAN DOESN'T UNDERSTAND THAT THE WORD TRADE MEANS: WE GIVE YOU SOMETHING
AND THEN WE GET SOMETHING IN RETURN. IT IS CALLED GLOBALIZATION. MEXICO IS AN AMERICAN CONSUMER. THEY ARE NOT JUST GIVING US RAPISTS AND DRUG DEALERS, MORON.
YES, DRUMPF LOOKED SO PRESIDENTIAL SIGNING SO MANY EXECUTIVE ORDERS HE ALMOST LOOKED AS THOUGH HE WAS ACTUALLY DOING SOMETHING. IT'S EASY NEGATING RULES AND REGULATIONS THAT ACTUALLY WORKED, BUT WHEN YOU HAVE ZERO TO REPLACE IT WITH, WELL THAT TAKES PROFOUND THOUGHT. SOMETHING YOU'RE LACKING IN YOUR LATEST HAIR RAISING TWEET.

I cheered out loud when Amanpour appeared!! I love her so much. She elevated the discussion.

I think the part where Anderson says "I love that there is the Daily Caller and Fox News" explains a lot about why he says things like he respects Kellyanne and Trump. He only says that about things that don't deserve respect! It's his way of being diplomatic and inclusive.

NYMag confirmed what I felt about trump and Zucker. Trump is mad at Zucker because he wanted CNN to treat him like Fox News because he is the one who got Zucker the CNN job in the first place. Bla.

The NYtimes has a great article critiquing CNN and what it has become lately. Good, solid, constructive criticism.

It was good to see Christianne Amanpour countering the Republicans on the panel, especially Jeff Lord. Matt Lewis said something about how the public was 'sick' of President Obama's style of leadership and wanted change--someone should tell him that President Obama is still more popular than Trump even though he's out of office.

Would reporters be more outraged if someone in President Obama's cabinet or Hillary Clinton's said that the 'press should just shut up' the way Steve Bannon has? It seems that reporters reaction to this has been rather mild--some have spoken out against Bannon's statement but not as forcefully as they should, IMO. I think they tend to give the GOP a bigger pass than they do liberals.

@Pragya, regarding your comment about AC praising people or political news networks he may not actually care for, I'm not so sure--he's stated many times his respect for Megyn Kelly (not sure why since she traffics in racist lies) and has expressed his admiration for Greta Van Susteren's reporting on Twitter a couple of times (she's not much better than Kelly) along with Bill O'Reilly and Glenn Beck. I believe these are people he genuinely respects. He rarely (if ever) compliments left-leaning journalists or media figures but he feels it necessary to state publicly how much he enjoys the work of certain right wing journalists. If you're going to portray yourself as a reporter who doesn't take sides, what's wrong with giving a little love to LIBERAL reporters as well? AC doesn't do that. I know AC's not alone in his love for Greta, even Rachael Maddow has made similar comments, but she DOES have to be complimentary since they share the same network!

Here's the rundown for Thursday's show:
Again I was late to 360. Anderson had just finished talking to Jeff Zeleny and started the panel. I stayed only because Christiane Amanpour was a panel member and it was so terrific to see her on 360 after a way too long absence. Jeffrey Lord, Matt Lewis and Kirsten Powers were the other panelists. The topic was U.S.-Mexico relations in light of Trump's wall, Pena Nieto cancelling his trip to Washington D.C. next week, Trump's plan for a 20% tax (paid by American consumers) on Mexican products, Congress saying 'no way' to that, immigration, Trump's relationship with the GOP and border security. I liked how Amanpour responded to Lord each time after Lord said something; it was like a teacher talking to a fifth-grader who read only the first few paragraphs of the chapter and then figured he knew it all.

Anderson spoke with Elise LaBott on "Four Top State Department Officials Asked To Leave" and LaBott had the details. The same panel discussed why this was a bad idea, "political employees" versus "career employees", parallels to all the U.S. ambassadors being hurried out and filling those positions. It was a good discussion except for Lord accusing those officials of having a "liberal bias".

The third segment dealt with Trump delaying - for who knows how long - his Executive Order on voter fraud investigation. Pamela Brown reported more info and then the panel started again. Besides voter fraud and investigating nonexistent voter fraud, the panel also talked about Bannon's comment "The media should keep its mouth shut", the responsibilities of the media, Trump delegitimizing the media, whether the media looks like America and of course Lord saw a liberal bias in every media outlet he didn't like.

Sanctuary cities - how Trump hates them and how some Mayors of those cities are fighting back was the topic in the last segment of the first hour. After a clip of Trump lauding his own policy Anderson interviewed Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. The Mayor had many reasons for fighting Trump on this issue even though Trump is threatening to cut off federal funds from sanctuary cities. When Anderson began his interview with Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez who's complying with Trump. I quickly checked to see what Hayes was covering and stayed there because his topic was the new anti-Trump protests outside of the GOP meeting in Philadelphia and I didn't think Anderson would report on them.

Friday's 360 was anchored by John Berman. Here's what I saw:

Berman began by talking with Jim Sciutto about Trump's "extreme vetting of refugees" plan, his 120-day ban on all refugees, plans for fighting ISIS and a religious (i.e. Christian only) based test for refugees. A panel of 5 of the usual pundits (including Kaleigh McEnany) started and I switched to Hayes. By comparison Hayes was interviewing Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and then Minnesota State Rep. Ilhan Omar a former Somalian refugee.

Yes, I brought up Hayes again not only to compare his guests with the usual panel but also with Berman's guest for the second segment: Gregg Phillips. He's a crackpot or as the chyron more politely stated "Man Claims Proof Of 3 Million Illegal Votes, Won't Share Data". Berman asked him many good pointed questions but Phillips never budged on his certainty of 3 million cases of voter fraud... and he'll have a list of 3 million names at some point and that's when he'll share his data with the public. The panel started again, I left and when I came back the chyron was "Trump Cites Unverified Data In Election Fraud" but I didn't pay much attention to the discussion.

In the third segment Berman introduced the topic of Trump dissing the media. There was a clip of Trump stating the media as "dishonest, deceit and deception" and the panel had the rest of the segment time.

UK Prime Minister Theresa May is visiting Trump and there were a few clips from the short press conference the two of them had. Jim Acosta reported on how that went: a lot of questions about the Mexican border wall, Trump refusing to talk about Russian sanctions ("it's too early.") but May not refusing at all, and platitudes about how lovey-dovey the US/UK relationship is. Berman and Acosta chatted a short while about Trump's phone call with Putin scheduled for Saturday. Next it was a Q&A with Phil Mattingly about axing Obamacare, replacing it with Trumpcare, worries in the GOP and their concerns about defunding Planned Parenthood.

The last segment was on the pro-life/forced-birth march in D.C. and Veep Pence speaking there. 360 had a report and then a Q&A with Brianna Keller.

I hope all the ATA Ladies are okay. ATA has been stuck on Wednesday but I know how real life can be a whopper sometimes and get in the way.

Regarding how Zucker and CNN treat Trump. I read somewhere Zucker was angling to be appointed head of the FCC (Federal Communications Commission which regulates television, radio, wire, cable, telephone and satellite stuff). Maybe now that it's apparent Trump won't give this job to Zucker, Zucker won't make CNN play nice with softball coverage of Trump.

OMG, did you guys see? Bannon is explicitly attacking Anderson! I am genuinely scared now

I see your point, but I think Anderson overcompensates because he is always accused of being liberal. But one thing Greta and Megyn have in common is that AC only started praising them after they left/had a falling out with fox news! haha. But he has always said his journalism idols are Bob Simon and Gordon Parks. Both liberal. And that he wanted to be on CNN after seeing Amanpour on the field.

Pragya said...

@aries moon

also, I should mention that he said the thing about loving that Fox news existed after making fun of it. In response to Jeffrey Lord saying Trump is the Nigel Farage of America, AC said "And like Farage, he seems to be working for Fox News." And he also took a shot at fox news in the KAC interview "Well I haven't spoken to Hannity today, but I am sure you guys have, a couple of times." He always says something nice after saying something critical.

Pragya said...

@aries moon

ooh and one more thing I remembered, Anderson was being nice about Megyn because CNN was wooing her, he hasn't said a word about her since he joined NBC. And don't forget, Anderson was the first to make the tea-bagging joke about the Tea Party on live tv: something Bannon and his ilk will never forget. He would never say that about his own party.

I'M ACTUALLY DISCOURAGED ABOUT THIS IMMIGRATION BAN. IT IS NOT THAT I'M TOTALLY AGAINST IT. I DO THINK FURTHER STEPS SHOULD BE TAKEN IN INSULATING US FROM OUTSIDE INFLUENCE THAT IS DANGEROUS, BUT
IT IS, IMHO, TOO MUCH TOO SOON, TOO LATE.....LIKE 15 YEARS TOO LATE.
YES, WE ARE A NATION OF IMMIGRANTS, BUT WHEN OUR FOREFATHERS CAME TO THIS COUNTRY THEY DID SO WITH GOOD INTENTIONS, NOT TO ENDANGER OTHERS IN THE PROCESS. ON 9/11 WE WERE VICIOUSLY
ATTACKED AND IT WAS AN ACT OF WAR...BUT W. INSISTED "WE DON'T KNOW WHAT COUNTRY TO BLAME"...SO LET'S BLAME THE WRONG ONE, W. AND SO IT WAS IRAQ. WHY? BECAUSE ITS LEADER WASN'T A HUMANITARIAN.
NOW WE CREATED THIS PROBLEM OF REMOVING SOMEONE WHO ACTUALLY KEPT OTHERS COUNTRIES IN THAT PART OF THE WORLD, IN LINE. THE CURRENT BUMBLE HEAD WANTS TO SHOW US HE MEANS WHAT HE SAYS, AND HE WILL BAN CERTAIN PEOPLE FROM ENTERING THIS COUNTRY. BUT THOSE COUNTRIES ON HIS LIST, HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING TO US...YET.
HEY, WHILE YOU'RE AT IT, WHY NOT SWEDEN AND NORWAY?? OBAMA LOVED BEING IN OSLO. HE SAID THEY UNDERSTOOD HIM THERE AND THEY WERE FAR MORE EDUCATED IN U S POLITICS THAN THE PEOPLE IN THE UNITED STATES, ACCORDING TO JODI KANTOR, THE NY TIMES CORRESPONDENT.
SYRIA HAS A TERRIBLE HUMANITARIAN CRISIS AND WE ARE DEPRIVING THOSE POOR PEOPLE OF A SAFE HAVEN OF REFUGE FOR WHAT REASON??
IF THERE IS ANYTHING THE UNITED STATES HAS DONE WELL, IT IS ASSIMILATION OF NATIONALITIES. MOST HISTORIANS, EXCEPT THOSE ON CNN, AGREE WITH THIS. SO WHAT IS PRESIDENT SCARECROW, YOU REMEMBER FROM 'THE WIZARD OF OZ', NO BRAIN, TRYING TO PROVE?
YES, WE KNOW, HIS BRAIN IS MADE OF STRAW....ORANGE STRAW WITH STRANDS OF GREY. WE'VE SEEN IT, AND HE LOOKS A BIT LIKE ALEC BALDWIN.

@Pragya, I'm pretty certain that AC was complimentary towards Megyn Kelly and Greta long before either of them announced they were leaving Fox News--in fact I remember Anderson praising Megyn Kelly during CNN's election coverage--I remember it clearly because I was annoyed by him saying to the political panel that he had nothing but the highest regard for her as a journalist (I think she's lousy) and this was more than once, the same with Greta. Although AC has said he watches Bill O'Reilly and likes him, I don't believe he'd ever have an interest in working at Fox News--I just know that he really admires Megyn and Greta. When Glenn Beck was working for Fox, Anderson appeared on his show a few times and he appeared on Megyn Kelly's show to discuss the book he wrote with his mother--it was the only show on Fox he appeared on to promote the book. I do agree that AC and many of the anchors/reporters on CNN overcompensate in order to keep from appearing to be liberal, but I still think he has some conservative leanings and sometimes that comes through in his reporting/story selection and comments.

I didn't hear about Bannon attacking AC, I'm going to see what he said--it's not too surprising since Trump/Bannon want everyone in the press to bow down and shut up. Bannon has too much power, he is a threat to our democracy and it's unnerving to think of how far he might try to push his white nationalist agenda--some think he's just testing the waters now to see how far he can go, ignoring court orders, etc. Trump's tantrums and missteps are distracting the press from the REALLY disturbing things that Bannon's doing in the background and they'd better get with it and start doing some serious investigative work--I'm loving all of these White House leaks that have revealed the incompetence and back biting within Team Trump, but this is still scary stuff happening now.

AFTER THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS WITH THIS NEW ADMINISTRATION, DONALD J. TRUMP MUST WRITE ANOTHER BOOK
ENTITLED "THE ART OF CHAOS" AND STEPHEN BANNON MUST CO-AUTHOR IT. IT'S CERTAIN TO BE A BEST SELLER
FOR AT LEAST ONE WEEK, DEPENDING ON THE MOOD OF THE COUNTRY AND HOW MANY PROTESTS AND DEMONSTRATIONS ARE IN PROGRESS AT THE ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURE AREAS OF MAJOR AIRPORTS. IT HAS GOTTEN
SO, WE JUST CAN'T KEEP UP WITH PRESIDENT CHAOS'S EXECUTIVE ORDERS. ONE AFTER THE OTHER. BETWEEN HIS SIGNING OF LEGISLATIVE ACTS, THAT MEAN NOTHING BECAUSE MOST ARE UNCONSTITUTIONAL, AND HIS HIRING AND FIRING OF ATTORNEY GENERALS THAT DON'T AGREE WITH HIM, WE ARE UTTERLY CONFUSED.
WE THOUGHT CONGRESS WAS INEPT. WELL NOW WE DUPLICATES. WE HAVE AN INEPT PRESIDENT TO GO HAND IN HAND WITH AN INEPT CONGRESS. DO THESE TWO ENTITIES NEGATE ONE ANOTHER OR DO THEY EQUAL A PLUS? IT HAS BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE I KNEW MATHEMATICAL LOGIC AND LOGISTICS IS NO LONGER MY THING.
I TRIED TO GET A NEWS PAPER THE OTHER DAY AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WENT QUICKLY. IN THE ELECTRONIC AGE THE PRINTED PAGE GOES QUICKLY? I HAVE TO LEARN TO TWEET IF I WANT TO GET "REAL NEWS."
NONE OF THIS FAKE STUFF FOR ME.
