Preview: Operation Car Wash Investigation in Brazil “much bigger" than Watergate, says lead prosecutor
Brazil's massive corruption scandal -- called "Operation Car Wash" -- involves billions in bribes and scores of politicians

The political corruption investigation in Brazil known as Operation Car Wash is "much bigger" than the Watergate scandal in the U.S., the lead prosecutor tells correspondent Anderson Cooper for a story that will air on 60 Minutes this Sunday, May 21 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

"We already have charged more than 200 people for hundreds of crimes," Deltan Dallagnol, the lead prosecutor of the Car Wash task force based in Curitiba, Brazil, tells Cooper.

Amid market turmoil and political uncertainty this past week, Brazil's president, Michel Temer, is now being investigated for allegedly approving payments to silence a potential witness in the Car Wash investigation. The country's popular former president, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, is on trial for corruption and money-laundering. Car Wash also played a role in the impeachment and removal from office of Brazil's first female leader, Dilma Rousseff, in August.

Dilma is the former chairwoman of the state-controlled oil company, Petrobras, which is at the center of the investigation. In an interview, Cooper asks Rousseff, "Did you ever receive any bribes?" "No," she says.

"I do think for some people, though, it's hard to believe that, as the chairwoman – you wouldn't have known….something was going on," Cooper says.

"Let me tell you," Rousseff says, "I did not know."

Cooper also landed the first television interview with the judge who oversees the Car Wash investigation in Curitiba. Judge Sergio Moro has been hearing testimony this month in the case against former President Lula. In an interview conducted in September, Judge Moro explained his controversial decision to order the pre-trial detention of 20 corporate executives accused of being part of the bribery scheme.

"I understood that we were living in exceptional circumstances because the corruption was so widespread," Moro said. "And you need to do something big to stop it."

Moro rejected arguments made by former president Lula and his supporters that the charges against him are politically motivated. The judge compared one moment in the Car Wash investigation to a scene from the American movie, "The Untouchables," about Prohibition-era law enforcement agent Eliot Ness and his squad known for being incorruptible. "It's a great movie," Judge Moro says.

President Temer and former President Lula strongly deny the charges against them. More than 90 members of Congress and nearly a third of President Temer's cabinet are currently under investigation as part of Operation Car Wash. The trail of evidence has also led to 12 other countries, leading the U.S. Department of Justice to call this "the largest foreign bribery case in history."

FINALLY. GOOD FOR ANDERSON AND HE SHOULDN'T FEEL THE NEED TO APOLOGIZE FOR INSULTING JEFF LORDE THAT IS EXACTLY HOW WE ALL FEEL. WHILE I PROBABLY WOULDN'T HAVE PUT IT QUITE THAT WAY.
I WOULD EXPECT JEFFREY TO FEEL THE NEED TO "CLEAN IT UP."
ON ANOTHER NOTE: BILL MAHER SAID HE THINKS, THAT TRUMP WILL BE OUT BY THIS CHRISTMAS, SO JEFFREY HAS UNTIL THE HOLIDAYS TO CLEAN UP TRUMP'S MESS.
HOW CAN ANDERSON STAND THE SIGHT OF HIM EVERY NIGHT?
ANDERSON SHOULD SAY TO JEFFREY: "PLEASE DON'T DEBATE WITH REAGAN BEHIND YOU. TRUMP AND REAGAN HAVE NOT ONE THING IN COMMON, AND NO, THESE REPUBLICANS ARE NOT THE PARTY OF REAGAN.
TO TRUMP: IF THIS IS A WITCH HUNT, WE'VE FOUND THE WITCH. ALL WE NEED IS THE BROOM.

Anderson was right to call out Jeff Lord--AC may have regretted the language he used to speak the truth about Lord but there were LOTS of people who agreed with what he said and felt that he should NOT have apologized, but I know AC doesn't like to come across as rude or crude. Folks on Twitter are praising AC for saying what needed to be said and he should take comfort in that but he probably won't. AC said that he likes having Lord on the show and that he thinks it's important to hear his perspective--I may be wrong, but I don't see Lord on Wolf Blitzer or Jake Tapper's shows--I think AC wants to have Lord on his show--he has enough clout to refuse to have him on if he didn't want him on but Jeff's a regular--because AC wants him there. It's interesting given AC's obvious exasperation and frustration with Lord that he still thinks he should be on the show. There have been many articles written recently why CNN is doing a disservice to its viewers by continuing to allow Trump surrogates like Lord and McEnany to push lies and fact free nonsense on their network but apparently AC thinks it's important to hear from them anyway. The truth and facts are important and that's not what you get from K-Lee, Jeff and the rest.

I was so happy to see Charles Blow on 360 and glad that he spoke out strongly against Trump's latest corrupt craziness--and I was happy to see him push back when Maggie Haberman said she felt bad for Trump's staff--I don't feel sorry for them-- they chose to work for someone so indecent, ignorant and vile and they deserve the hell they're going through.

ABSOLUTELY RIGHT ARIES MOON....AND SO WAS ANDERSON AND LIKE I SAID PREVIOUSLY, HE SHOULD NOT HAVE APOLOGIZED FOR IT. THIS WAS HIS FRUSTRATION SPEAKING, NOT HIM. HOWEVER, MAYBE IT WILL WAKE LORD AND K-LEE UP. A SURROGATE CAN BE OBJECTIVE. THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE TO "SUCK UP," EVERY MINUTE, NO MATTER HOW INDECENT. THAT'S EXACTLY WHY THERE WILL ALWAYS BE, " A FEW GOOD MEN," WHO WILL SIDE WITH THE DEMOCRATS.
ANDERSON HOWEVER, CAN CONTROL HIS SHOW AND SAY: "HOW IN THE WORLD CAN YOU DEFEND SUCH AN UNSPEAKABLE ACTION? ISN'T IT TIME JEFFREY YOU SPOKE TRUTH TO POWER AND PLEASE STOP COMPARING TRUMP TO RONALD REAGAN. I KNEW MR REAGAN AND HE WOULDN'T HAVE APPROVED ANY OF THIS."
ANDERSON DID KNOW THE REAGANS, BECAUSE HIS MOTHER WAS FRIENDLY WITH NANCY.
WE KNOW THAT ANDERSON IS NOT A 'GOODY TWO SHOES.' HE'S WORRIED ABOUT ACCESS. THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS ACCESS WITH TRUMP. IF YOU'RE ON FOX NEWS, YOU GET ACCESS. OTHERWISE FORGET IT.
ANDERSON MUST REMEMBER: DONALD TRUMP HAS NO RESPECT FOR ANYBODY, EXCEPT HIMSELF. HE DOES NOT RESPECT ANY OF THE SECURITY OR INTELLIGENCE AGENCIES, OR ANY JOURNALIST. SO WHY SHOULD WE RESPECT HIM? I HAVEN'T ONCE REFERRED TO HIM AS PRESIDENT. TO ME HE IS IS A "SPACE SAVER." HE FILLS THE REQUIREMENT, EVEN THOUGH HE'S TOTALLY UNQUALIFIED. I RESPECT THE OFFICE....NOT HIM....AND UNLIKE NIXON, HE HAS DONE NOTHING TO DESERVE ANYONE'S RESPECT. AT LEAST NIXON KNEW FOREIGN POLICY. WE DIDN'T LIKE HIM, BUT HE HAD SOME INKLING ABOUT THE ISSUES. TRUMP IS DEAD WOOD....."YOU CAN'T TAKE WATER FROM A STONE."
