Anderson Cooper 360 on Monday, July 10, 2017

Anderson Cooper was back in the AC360 anchor chair and anchored both the 8pm and 9pm ET hours.

Tomorrow we will do a special post to "catch up" on all things AC.  We have the Special on the Pulse Night Club Anniversary, Anderson's participation in the HBO Documentary - "The Words That Built America," and the last couple of Instagram photos from his vacation in the Tahitian Islands.

As I predicted the big story was Donald Trump Jr. meeting in June 2016 with a Russian lawyer connected to the Kremlin and working to get damaging info on Hillary Clinton. Anderson's overview included how Trump Jr. changed his story several times since the New York Times report came out. There were clips of Pence denying knowledge of the meeting, Trump just flat out denying and Trump Jr. defending it. Anderson listed five or six Trump associates who have had meetings with the Russians. Then Jeff Zeleny reported on Trump Jr. getting a lawyer to deal with this and whether he would testify before any of the investigation committees trying to get to the bottom of Trump campaign's colluding with the Russians.
When the panel of 5 started I switched to Hayes.

The panel continued in the second segment. I didn't watch.

Randi Kaye had a report on the Russian lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskays, who met with Trump Jr. and then Anderson spoke with Steve Hall and Jill Dougherty for analysis. Instead I watched Hayes cover Mitch McConnell's latest effort to quickly bring the GOP healthcare bill to a vote in the Senate (Anderson didn't cover this story in the first hour of 360).

The fourth segment was all about Trump's tweet on working with Russia on cybersecurity and safeguarded elections, the backlash that tweet had wrought and then Trump's tweet backtracking on his earlier tweet. A panel of 4 discussed but I didn't watch.

I missed the start of the last segment of the first hour and I'm sorry I did because it was Anderson's interview with Thomas Friedman, Foreign Affairs columnist for the New York Times, author and really smart guy. Friedman made many excellent comments on Trump's stupidity and missteps, the division in our country and the changed worldview of the U.S. This segment went 3 minutes into the second hour but I kept watching because Friedman was so good.
Anderson's preview of the "start" of the second hour was the same as the first.

Glad to have Anderson back but wish there weren't so many panel discussions.
