Anderson Cooper was back from Berlin, Germany and in the AC360 anchor chair in the 8pmET hour from the NYC studio.   He was back for a few minutes following Trump's address before the Paul Ryan Town Hall began.   Anderson also anchored CNN Newsroom in the 2pm and 3pmET hours.  Most of the coverage was on the solar eclipse.

I DID NOT LISTEN TO BOGUS. I DECIDED I WILL NOT LISTEN TO ANYTHING HE HAS TO SAY. I KNOW MORE THAN HE DOES ABOUT EVERY ISSUE AND SO DOES EVERYONE ON THIS BLOG WHO POSTS REGULARLY.
HE HAS ZERO QUALIFICATIONS TO BE PRESIDENT AND I DON'T WANT TO HEAR THE PUNDITS ANALYZE HIS STUPID, PITIFUL, UTTERANCES.
THE COWS THAT GRAZE IN THE FIELD HAVE MORE KNOWLEDGE THAN HE DOES. TODAY THEY HAPPENED TO BE LYING DOWN SO IT IS GOING TO RAIN. THERE....NOW I HAVE GIVEN YOU THE WEATHER FORECAST IN THE DC AREA.

I missed the first 2 minutes of Monday's 360. Maybe that's when Anderson mentioned the eclipse.

The first thing I saw on 360 was a clip of campaigner Trump complaining about Obama's Afghanistan policy back in October 2015. He'll be making a speech at 9 pm (EST) to outline his own plan for ending the Afghan war. Anderson talked to Athena Jones about what to expect, what's been done and spent so far and Trump's past comments on Afghanistan. Anderson showed a few comments from Breitbart and then spoke with Jessica Schneider about those comments, Bannon's input and Ivanka's influence. I missed a chunk of the show and when I got back the panel was in place. They were Alice Stewart, Tara Setmeyer, Ryan Lizza and Kirsten Powers.

USA Today has reported the Secret Service is running out of money already because the Trump family is so big, takes so many trips and - in the case of his sons - to farfetched places. There was a clip of campaigner Trump ranting about how many expensive trips Obama & family were taking. Currently the Trump business is making money off of the Secret Service for rent and even things like charging them for golf carts they use for work. The White House spun this as 'no, it's only more expensive because of an increase in the coverage tempo'. "Coverage tempo"? What does that mean? Anderson interviewed USA Today reporter Kevin Johnson for more details.
Next was a Q&A and report from Gary Tuchman on Trump's rally in Phoenix tomorrow, the possible pardon for Sheriff Arpaio, the protesters getting ready and Trump supporters having no problem with anything Trump does.

USS McCain, the Navy ship which collided with another ship today and was damaged, is named for Senator McCain's father who was a Navy Admiral. Jim Sciutto provided the details, another reporter had info on the other 3 Navy ship accidents this year and retired Rear Adm. John Riley analyzed.

Athena Jones came back for another preview of Trump's speech and a panel of many started. Peter Bergen, Jim Sciutto, Jen Psaki, Nick Patton Walsh, Mike Shields and retired Lt. Gen. Mark Herting. Herting had the best comment, stating 'I don't just want to know "what" he's going to do but I also want to know the "how" and the "why".' Exactly, I predict Trump will lay out big plans for peace in Afghanistan but have skimpy, if any, details, on how it will be done. Other topics included military solutions, strategies, troop levels and getting other countries especially Pakistan to participate.
The show went on, Herting actually got the last word in, right up to the moment Trump started speaking. I turned to Monday Night Football.

I didn't see CNN's live coverage of the eclipse earlier in the day and just barely managed to see a partial eclipse in my state. The clouds dispersed and lifted just enough to see it.
