Anderson Cooper 360 on Wednesday, August 23, 2017

Anderson Cooper anchored AC360 in the 8pm and 9pmET hours from the NYC studio.  Anderson began the program with a Keeping Them Honest segment on the two Trumps.   (Due to video size constraints we've posted it in two parts.)

I really liked the first segment of Wednesday's 360.
Instead of talking to other reporters, to pundits or to anyone else, Anderson spent 15 minutes detailing how much Trump lies. The chyron was "A Tale Of Two Presidents" and I thought the focus was going to be differences between Trump's true babble in Phoenix yesterday to the scripted speech in Reno today. However, Anderson mostly fact-checked the Phoenix tirade including how Trump portrays himself as a victim and bashes the media. Anderson had clips of Trump's comments and then fact-checked them all. Anderson also had a line differentiating between mechanically reading someone else's words off a teleprompter and being REAL. Comments checked concerned Charlottesville, the media, GOP healthcare bill, Senator McCain (R-AZ), Senator Flake (R-AZ), Sheriff Arpaio and the Trump delusion that his campaign/Presidency is "built on love".
Anderson showed a clip of military guy James Clapper very worried about Trump knowing the nuclear codes. There was also a clip of Senator Bob Corker (R-TN) concerns about Trump stability and ability to start a war. Anderson wrapped up with words on Trump's massive ego, his lies and how the situation would be very different if he was a decent human being and said the right things.
ATA has thoughtfully posted videos of the first segment (in 2 parts); if you haven't seen it yet, please watch it here.

The second segment started with a longer clip of James Clapper expressing how worried he is and then a panel of David Axelrod, David Challian and Michael D'Antonio started. The chyron here was "Trump Makes Scripted Call For Unity After Divisive Phoenix Rant" and I applaud whoever decided to put "scripted" and "rant" in there. The panel discussed Trump's statements and his psychology.

Anderson talked to Manu Raju about the "CNN Exclusive: Trump Campaign Aide Emailed About Effort To Meet Putin"; this effort was during the campaign. Raju gave out other details before the panel - Alana Schor, Steve Hall, Kirsten Powers - analyzed.

The last segment of the first hour had Anderson's interview with Spike Lee. It started by discussing NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, his refusal to stand for the anthem, his supporters, his detractors, race and sports. I was distracted during the last part of the interview but did hear Lee talk about Muhammed Ali also.

Anderson's preview for the start of the second segment looked a lot like the first.

Overall, a very good 360. Lots of Trump and politics but there was also Spike Lee and sports. The panels were not huge and there weren't any obnoxious Trump parrots in attendance.

Another stellar opening takedown of Trump by AC--I'm loving how he doesn't hesitate to call him a blatant liar and point out how his biggest concern is always HIM and nothing else. There was a funny moment in the show when AC said to the latest, irritating Trump shill, "you do realize the president doesn't read". Yes, we know AC.

TONIGHT I BELIEVE MOST OF 360 WAS PRERECORDED BECAUSE OF THE SPECIAL BROADCAST AND THE FACT THAT FOR BOGUS NEWS, IT WAS A SLOW DAY.....WELL FOR BOGUS.
JASON MILLER WAS ON WITH VAN JONES AND THIS WAS A DECIDEDLY DIFFERENT JASON MILLER. HE WASN'T SMILING AND THE SMUG LOOK SEEMED TO BE GONE.
PEOPLE ARE STARTING TO DOUBT TRUMP'S STABILITY TO LEAD, AND HOPEFULLY THIS WILL LEAD TO WHAT WE ALL WANT....HIM OUT OF THE WHITE HOUSE FOR GOOD.
SOMETHING IS IN THE AIR.....I WONDER WHAT IT COULD BE?
