Monday's 360 was entirely about the Las Vegas shooting. I expected that because it was highest casualty shooting in this country and because this afternoon it was also CNN's only story. What was unexpected was to have John Berman start the show and say "Anderson Cooper will be here shortly" and to have Anderson show up 58 minutes later. No explanation was given by either of them but the cable info button stated Anderson was supposed to be reporting from Puerto Rico today.

Berman started with an overview of the Las Vegas shooting at a concert on the Strip late last night. There are 59 dead and 527 injured. Reporter Alexander Marquardt had more details, Stephanie Elam reported on the hospital angle and Gary Tuchman covered the long lines at a blood donation center. Berman interviewed Anthony Robone, a paramedic who attended the concert and helped people including his brother who was injured. Martin Savidge talked about the city's response and the vigils, Drew Griffin was on the history of the shooter (who committed suicide in the hotel room) and Kyung Lah covered other details about the shooter. It was a very long first segment.

Phillip Mudd, Jonathan Wackrow and Juliette Kayyem analyzed and discussed various elements. Gary Tuchman reported again from the blood center because he had Senator Dean Heller (R-NV) to interview while Heller gave blood. Everything Heller said was the usual playbook of 'oh this is terrible', 'the community is good' and 'we come together in a crisis'

There was a repeat of Tom Foreman's report from earlier in the day showing a computerized model of the concert grounds, the hotel location and surrounding area of the shooting including the guns in the room and their range. Berman interviewed Clark Cty Fire Chief Greg Cassel about the SWAT team getting to the shooter and firefighters helping the victims.

The last segment of the first hour was Berman's interview with a photographer who survived the shooting about what he went through. At the end of the interview Berman said what I consider the most editorialized comment he made in the show. Berman said, "This is what war sounds like but this was in Las Vegas Nevada."
Anderson took over as anchor at :58 into the first hour and began with photos and short biographies of several of those who died.

Over on MSNBC Hayes, Maddow and O'Donnell were all anchoring from Las Vegas.
Any theories on why Anderson was unable to anchor 360's first hour?
Did he rush back from Puerto Rico?
Any guesses if he'll go to Las Vegas for Tuesday's 360?

WELL AC DID GO TO LAS VEGAS AS I GUESSED HE WOULD.....FROM ONE KIND OF TRAGEDY TO ANOTHER OR

HERE'S WHAT I WANT TO KNOW: SO THE KILLER STOCK PILED AN ARSENAL OF WEAPONS IN THE MANDOLIN HOTEL. CLEVER AS HE WAS AND PUT CAMERAS IN THE ROOM AND THE HALLWAY.
DIDN'T MANAGEMENT NOTICE SOMETHING STRANGE? HOW DOES ANYONE GET THAT MUCH AMMUNITION INTO ONE ROOM, AND HOW DO YOU ASSEMBLE ALL OF THE GUNS, AND NEVER GO UNNOTICED???
LET'S JUST SAY THERE WILL BE LAW SUITS PILED HIGH TO THE SKY AND THE HOTEL INDUSTRY BETTER

A VERY POOR JOB IN SECURITY AND DESERVE TO BE SUED FOR LOTS OF$$$$. MAYBE THEN THE HOTEL INDUSTRY MIGHT EXERT SOME PRESSURE ON THE GUN LOBBY....BECAUSE IN THE USA I LIVE IN: LIVES
