NEW YORK — Diane von Furstenberg let the crowd attending New York Fashion Week in on a little secret Sunday: Fashion is a puzzle.

Von Furstenberg, who, as president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America is the de facto leader of the American fashion community, used jigsaw puzzle pieces as a prominent theme of her fall collection, presented to a packed house that included her personal friends Oscar de la Renta, Anderson Cooper, Diane Sawyer and Barbara Walters. There was a puzzle print on a pink sleeveless dress, and laser-cut pieces on a black embellished one. A model carried a puzzle-box bag. 'Anderson' Ratings News for Week Ended January 29, 2012

'Judge Judy,' 'Wheel of Fortune' lead all of syndication

Headed into the February sweep, most syndication strips held back their best episodes in the week ending Jan. 29, resulting in some lackluster ratings....

Warner Bros.' rookie, Anderson, which had been climbing in the ratings, dropped back to a 1.4, off 13% from the series high it set the prior week.

'Anderson' picking up ratings steam
Talkshow playing to host Cooper's strengths

Syndicated Warner Bros. talker "Anderson," starring CNN anchor and household name Anderson Cooper, is showing some ratings traction after getting off to a slow start in September.

In the week ending Jan. 22, "Anderson" hit a series high 1.6 national household rating, up 7% from the prior week, and up 33% from two weeks earlier.

"Anderson" already has been renewed for a second season, with Fox picking up the show in New York, Minneapolis and Tampa next year and renewing it in Los Angeles, Chicago and Boston. By acquiring the show, Fox gave "Anderson" a second chance, because Tribune wasn't planning on renewing it in New York.

Though "Anderson" is on the rise in the national ratings, it's still struggling on Tribune's WPIX New York, where it averaged a 0.6 at 4 p.m. in the November 2011 sweeps, and was the lowest-rated show on the station for the entire day. Meanwhile, Fox's WNYW New York, where "Anderson" is headed in September, is on a sharp ratings upswing this season.

The team behind "Anderson" has been working on growing the show, switching out its original executive producers -- Lisa Morin and Jim Murphy -- in favor of Terence Noonan, who came aboard in November.

The team also is making sure to play to Cooper's strengths, staying up to the minute with its choices of guests and segments, says Hilary Estey McLoughlin, president of Telepictures, the division of Warner Bros. Television that produces "Anderson."

"We really tried to focus on staying topical and on what Anderson's point of view is on current stories, which is clearly what people admire and respect about him," says McLoughlin. "He has a great handle and point of view on a broad range of material."

"Anderson" also has been able to grab some strong celebrity bookings in recent weeks, including Angelina Jolie, Drew Barrymore, Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson, Katherine Heigl, Dolly Parton and Madonna.

"Celebrities like him," says McLoughlin. "He asks good and challenging questions but doesn't make them uncomfortable. He provides a different take on the celebrity interview."

Syndication Ratings: Magazines Shine in Light of Golden Globes
Rookies 'Anderson,' 'Big Bang' continue their rolls, both hitting series highs

Warner Bros.' closely-watched rookie talker, Anderson, continued its growth spurt, adding 7% in households for a series high 1.6 for the second week in a row. Anderson ratings have grown 33% in the past two weeks.*

The top veteran talkers were stable. CTD's Dr. Phil notched its 13th win this season at a 3.2, flat for the week but up 10% from last year at this time. Sony's Dr. Oz and Disney-ABC's Live! with Kelly each held steady at a 3.0 and 2.7, respectively.

In fourth place, NBCU's Maury added 8% to a new season-high 2.6. Warner Bros.' Ellen improved 4% to a 2.5. CTD's Rachael Ray finally backed off of its season high, easing 6% to a 1.7. CTD's The Doctors was flat at a 1.6, tying NBCU's Jerry Springer, which tacked on 7%. NBCU's Steve Wilkos shot up 15% to a new season-high 1.5, while Debmar-Mercury's Wendy Williams fell back to earth, dropping 14% to a 1.2. Sony's Nate Berkus, which will end its run after this season, sank 9% to a new season-low 1.0.

* Blogger's Note: To bring a little perspective to the Anderson ratings have grown 33% in the past two weeks statement. Anderson's ratings two week's ago were 1.2, tying the show's lowest of the season. Last week ratings increased to 1.5, tying the show's highest of the season. This week's rating of 1.6 is a series high. The percentage is a little misleading because the numbers are all small and the two week increase is from the series low to the series high all over that last two weeks. Most of the year, the ratings have stayed in the 1.3 to 1.4 range. Percentages are often misleading, so for ratings comparisons, it's best to look at the actual numbers.

It was announced on February 23rd last year that Good Morning America's Senior Executive Producer, Jim Murphy, was leaving ABC to become one of four Executive Producers for Anderson Cooper's daytime talk show.
Today Deadline Hollywood broke the news that Murphy would be parting company with ANDERSON leaving only Cooper and the new-to- the-show Terence Noonan to EP the program. Noonan, a four-time Daytime Emmy winner, and co-author of Starring You!, has a background producing TLC programming and also spent time a producer on The Dr. Oz Show.

'Anderson' Weekly Ratings News for Week Ending January 15, 2012

Syndication Ratings: As Winter's Cold Takes Hold, Syndies Heat Up
'Phil' takes back talkers, 'Judy' hits season high and 'Big Bang' keeps exploding

With the holidays over and winter in full swing, several syndicated series hit season highs in the week ending Jan. 15.

CBS Television Distribution's Dr. Phil took the talk crown back from Dr. Oz, adding 10% to hit a 3.2 live plus same day average household rating, according to Nielsen Media Research.

Sony's Dr. Oz was steady in second place at a 3.0, but was the top talker among the key women 25-54 demographic at a 1.8, a series high for Oz in the demo. Disney-ABC's Live! with Kelly also was flat at a 2.7 and Warner Bros.' Ellen at a 2.4. Ellen tied NBCUniversal's Maury, which softened 4% to a 2.4, although it remained the top talker among women and adults 18-34 and 18-49 for the 33rd week in a row.

CTD's Rachael Ray held steady at its season high 1.8. CTD's The Doctors improved 7% to a 1.6, and jumped 50% among women 18-34. NBCUniversal's Jerry Springer slipped 6% to a 1.5. Debmar-Mercury's Wendy Williams, back in original episodes, rose 27% to hit a new season high 1.4.

Wendy was particularly strong in demos, tying for fourth among women 18-49 with Live! and Ellen at a 1.1, a 57% week to week increase. Wendy came in sixth among women 25-54, also at a 1.1, a 38% increase, and the show came in second among women 18-34 at a 1.0, a 67% increase for the week.

Warner Bros.' Anderson had the biggest gain of any rookie first-run show, shooting 25% from the prior week to a new series high 1.5, and for the first time tied 20-year veteran Jerry Springer. In addition, Anderson grew 29% among women 25-54 to a 0.9.

Blogger's Note - While it sounds good to say 'Anderson' saw a 25% gain, when working with small numbers, percentages can be mis-leading. Last week 'Anderson' matched it's lowest 1.2 mark of the season and this week matched it's highest 1.5 mark of the season. It's the first time 'Anderson' has been compared with the Jerry Springer show! It seems that 'Anderson' has yet to break through and steadily gain an audience.

Syndicated TV Ratings: 'Wheel Of Fortune' Stays Ahead Of 'Judge Judy;' 'Dr. Phil' Is Top Talk Show
Dr. Phil edged Dr. Oz for top talk show honors though Dr. Oz had its best week ever with women 25-54 (and was the top talk show in that demographic).

'Anderson' is not ranked in the top 25 syndicated show (nor has it ever been), but his link gives perspective for where some of his competition ranks....
