A Little More Serious Nth Degree

I was digging around for a light, funny clip to post tonight but I was stopped in my tracks when I came across an Nth Degree titled "Taking a Grand Wish to the Nth Degree". It is from June 25, 2004 - 3 years ago. Anderson is dressed in a bullet proof vest hosting the show from Baghdad. In the clip, he seems so optimistic about the upcoming handover of power to the new Iraqi government. Unfortunately, since the handover on June 30, 2004 there have been 2687 American troops that have died in Iraq (3546 in Iraq since the war has started and 406 in Afghanistan). Stats from antiwar.com.

Speaking of our troops, if you missed Anderson's interview with Joe Darby who was the one that turned in his fellow soldiers for abusing Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib, you can the repeat tonight on 60 Minutes.

CNN has been running ads wanting nominees for their CNN Hero Awards. I noticed during Friday night's AC360 the ticker was saying Anderson would be the hosting the award show in December. Here is a link to the CNN Heros page: http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2007/cnn.heroes/

Great find Quitty. As Anderson said 'we have to hope' over and over in that Nth degree all I could think was 'hope is not a plan'. Indeed hope didn't work in Baghdad just as it didn't work in NOLA. When will we learn?

Speaking of CNN Heroes we have alot of them to be nominated like the ones for example the ones in Iraq and the firefighters from Charleston, South Carolina. and lot others

May God bless each and every one of the ones thats are nominated for CNN

Very interesting Nth Degree, thanks for sharing it Quitty. Andy seems so hopeful, it's almost cute.

@Jenifer, those firefighters from Charleston, South Carolina should be nominated. They deserve it. What they did..that is a true hero, and I have a tremendous amount of respecr for them.

Thanks for featuring that particular Nth Degree. I can honestly say that it was the trigger of my current Anderfandom, I remember watching it three years ago and thinking what a great reporter he was and how he made me really feel what he was saying, he seemed unique (he still does). I have that Nth on tape and still look at it from time to time.

I think of Anderson's "hope is not a plan" quite often while watching stories like Iraq and NOLA-plans that sure as heck ain't working.
I agree completely with Jennifer, the men and women in Iraq
as well as the SC firefighters deserve nominations for CNN heroes.
Just to get a little non-serious for a minute, but"SHE" has an exclusive interview with Larry King
on Wednesday-oh,if our Andy is on,I can't wait to see the look on his face!Heck, maybe when he heard about the interview,he'll stay home!
Happy Sunday,everyone.

I am so looking forwrd to she who shall not be named interview. I think it's going to be great. I agree with Anne, I wan't wait to see the look on Andy's face either.

As for the CNN Hero's, all firefighters and all those in Iraq, deserve to win an award. They are the real heroes out there.

Isn't Anderson travelling Weds. for Thurs. show from TX? Maybe he'll avoid SWMNBN ..

Great Nth Degree Quitty.....really makes you think that in the end all we really do have is hope.

Soldier and firefighters are all heroes. I wouldn't want to do that job so I have much respect for them all.

As for Wednesday night.....I think Anderson will be on but I but there will be no LK leadin and the end of LK just goes to black and Anderson picks it up from there. I do not think it will take him that long to travel to Texas. Although honestly I would like to see what Anderson would say.

Do you think they will do a "In Her Own Words" on 360 so Anderson can say "WHATEVER" :P

I can't wait and I'm looking forward to wednesday's ac360. Together with the great news ac360 gives, I can't wait to see Anderson's face when he takes over from larry. But you know what, this might not be too bad, the interesting part will be at the end of the show, when Anderson will have to introduce larry again, with his host, the 'SHE'
I wonder if it will go like this,

"...And this is it for tonight, for our international viewers cnn international continuees, and for the viewers here in states, it's larry king live and his guest tonight...ah!..well..PH." (just alphabets and wont mention the whole name, then he shuffle papers and roll his eyes but, oops! cameras still on!, he smiles at the camera and finish up..
" Thanks for watching, see you t'morrow in Texas, goodnight"

Then Thursday, yeeaah!
MUSCLE ARMS and jeans!

Then Friday,..okay, I need to stop.

Hi everyone! All of those "Heroes" seem so worthy, but as an animal lover I am partial to Eugene Rutagarama who is helping to save the mountain gorillas in Rwanda. I have great respect for people who help animals because they are doing something for someone who can never really thank them, while helping to make the world a better place for all of us.

I salute Mr. Rutagarama and thank him for his dedication.

Sorry for the bad memory, but how do we know AC will be in Texas this Thursday? And do we know what day he will be reporting on gays and lesbians raising families? Is that the week after next?

Yes, it's extemely HOT on the Texas border this time of year- time for a t-shirt and jeans. A little Andersweat doesn't hurt, either ;)

I doubt Larry King will be live with all the media following PH around. He usually tapes shows that have extremely controversial subjects.
Come on Thursday, tight t-shirt and all..lol

@mm, it was in my Friday night post that AC would be live in Texas on Thurs. CNN had an ad on about it late Friday night. As for AC360's look at the GLBT community there is a link to the CNN announcement in the same post. You commented on the post so I assume you must have read it?

m.minkoff said...

@Phebe, Thanks, I knew I read about Texas somewhere. It must have been here! I was just browsing CNN's website and noticed the GLBT shows and when it said, Saturday through Wednesday, I didn't know if they were referring to Sat. the 23rd or Sat. the 30th.I've got a lot going on in my life right now, so again, sorry for the bad memory. Stress will do that to you!

Phebe said...

@mm, You're welcome. After coming through a very, very stressful and upsetting week I know exactly how you feel.
CNN has been featuring some of the GLBT stuff this weekend so I assume they meant the 23rd.
Hope the stress eases soon.

Megs said...

oh my goodness I am having a slow Sunday......it took me a couple minutes to figure out what GLBT was :P

Phebe I'm sorry to hear you are having a stressful week......but cure watch Anderson on 60 Minutes :) He is such a good de-stresser!!!!!

Jennifer said...

Hi Phebe, I've heard that you having a stressful week, Is there anything I can do for you? I know most likely there isn't but I wanted to ask any way. If there is anything at all you have to do is just let me know.

There is a pic out there of Anderson and Jessica Seinfeld at the June 19 premier of Bee Movie in New York. So it looks like he came straight back from NOLA on Monday night.

I should have mentioned the picture of Anderson and Jessica Seinfeld at the June 19 Bee Movie is on Bruno Press.

I just put in the postings regarding Anderson and Jessica Seinfeld at the Bee Movie premier June 19 and said he must have come right back from NOLA, but I guess I had the wrong week in mind, was he in NOLA that one Monday night on June 11? I've seem to have gotten myself all confused with dates.
