Bits and Pieces

Thanks to AnnieKate for the wonderful wallpaper. She calls it 'Andy's Expressions'.

There's lots going on in my life right now (yes, I really do have a life outside of ATA) so AC picked a perfect week to go MIA, as far as I'm concerned. We've found no sightings, so maybe this really is a much deserved vacation?

We'll fill the void with a few bits and pieces of AC360 related news:

• We received an email today from Erica Hill regarding your comments to her question & answer post. It read: "I just finished reading the posts – ATA readers are the best! Everyone was so kind; it made my day. Thank you for making me a part of the site. " She's just the sweetest person and I'm thrilled that she took the time to read your comments, since you all said such wonderful things.
•On Friday, August 24, 2007, Dr. Sanjay Gupta joined Atlanta’s mayor Shirley Franklin for her monthly book club featuring his new book, Chasing Life. Once a month Mayor Franklin selects a particular book and invites the author in for discussion. Dr. Gupta spoke to a crowd of about 60 city employees.

• Several of our readers were kind enough to send us the TMZ link about Richard Quest. He's slated to be one of the contestants on the new season of 'Dancing With The Stars'. I don't know where Book Asylum gets her information, but she had this story before anyone else and blogged about it at our sister blog, ATC, several weeks ago. The girl will not reveal her source, maybe she's been making nice with Mr. Quest?

•Did you catch Arwa Damon’s report last Wednesday about five-year-old Youssif, an Iraqi boy who was doused with gasoline and set on fire by masked gunmen? When CNN launched their IMPACT YOUR WORLD initiative earlier this year they had visions of empowering viewers to take action regarding news stories. Youssif's story is heartbreaking and has triggered an outpouring of support for him, and his family, from CNN viewers. The Children's Burn Foundation - a non-profit organization based out of Sherman Oaks, California has agreed to pay all expenses for Youssif and his father to come to the United States and has established a fund so viewers can donate. To see the full story and find out how you can help just follow the link.

•And since it's hurricane season and we've been missing our favorite anchor I'll leave you with one of Ms. Quitty's great Nth degrees. Enjoy!

HAHA I love AnnieKate's "Andy's Expressions" wallpaper. Good lord I have never seen that many Anderson faces in one sitting!

How sweet for Erica to read our comments! What a sweet, genuine person she is :) And if I do say so myself, ATA readers represented themselves so well :)

All I can say about Richard Quest being on Dancing with the Stars is that it would be a complete riot! He is so funny! I hope he really will be on bc right now TVNewser says that CNN denies the rumors...

It warms my heart to hear Youssif's story have such great response. What a brave little boy.

Hmm leave it to Anderson to do an Nth Degree on wind...haha wind never sounded so good!

Well Phebe I hope whatever is going on in your life turns out to be wonderful, God knows you deserve it! If it gets to be overwhelming, take a breather and remember all the ATA members that love you!

@Annie Kate, nice of you making that wallpaper. Loved it!

It was also nice of EH to take more time in reading all of our posts. She's great!

I've seen RQ's "QUEST" where he made a report about ballroom dancing and he took the lessons in ballroom dancing. At the end of the program he was seen competing in a dance show and even made it to the finals. He and his partner danced the cha-cha and rhumba. Maybe that was the one. He even said that learning ballroom dancing he can already take his mom to dance.

Whoever those people behind Children's Burn Foundation, may God bless them for all their good deeds.

@Annie Kate. NICE wallpapaer!!! Keep up the good work, I'd love to see what else you can do.

That was sweet of Erica to read ourcomments. She seems like sich a nice person.

I think Richard Quest will fit in perfectly on Dancing With the Stars. I wish him luck and hopes that he wins.

Once again Quitty, GREAT Nth Degree. I'd never seen that one before but there is something about it that I really like.

I highly doubt that Andy is on vacation this week. I don't even think that, that man knows what a vacation is even if one jumped out infront of him and said "hey i'm a vacation". I bet he's working on something for wednesday nite. How can he be on something (vacation) when he dosen't even know what one is...LOL!!!

It's wonderful knowing that Youssif will get the help he needs. It's just mind boggling that something that horrible could've happened to anyone and especially a child.

For someone so gorgeous, Anderson sure can make some crazy-a** faces! But the crazy faces never detract from the pretty.

You all are most welcome for the wallpaper - enjoy in good health!!

The nth degree was great Quitty! I love those things - I wish he would do them again.

Was wonderful of Erica to respond so nicely - she is such a super nice person. Did anyone notice that she was on the big CNN this weekend instead of Headline News? I wonder if big things are in store for her - no one would deserve it more. I would miss the banter though!

Richard Quest dancing - that should be a sight. I get his podcast and he is quite the man of the world - what one would call a Rennaisance man I believe. He amazes me constantly and I saw the ballroom dancing thing too! It was great and it was *so Richard* if you know what I mean. He has a certain panache that only he can deliver.

Great post Phebe and don't work too hard. All work and no AC makes for a dull day!!

That was very nice of Erica to read our comments. I think the Q&A went great. She's such a wonderful person! Thanks again, Erica!

I think Richard Quest is a hoot and he would be fun to watch on "Dancing With The Stars"!!

Thanks for the wallpaper, Annie Kate! What wonderful expressions Anderson makes! You did a really good job.

It's hard to believe that people can be so cruel to do that to a child! I'm so happy that someone wants to help little Youssif and I hope his burns can be improved.

Thanks for The Nth video, Quitty! Just love those old Nth's! Since Anderson is MIA right now it's nice to see him in something I haven't seen before. I don't think Anderson is on vacation either. He's probably on a trip for a future story he'll be reporting on.

Hope all is well with you, Phebe!

What a fantastic outpouring of help for Youssif! That is wonderful that he's able to get some restorative care. Simply miraculous.

Thanks again to Erica for answering our questions and reading our comments :) Love it.

I am totally watching "Dancing with the Stars" if Richard Quest is on it. I watched that show every now and then for the past two seasons, but my support is for Richard all the way!!! That man is awesome :)

I am just now understanding about life outside of ATA. The real world can be a menace, but we keep on keepin' on!!

Thank you Anniekate. It has always amazed me that there are so many pictures/videos with Anderson in them and the expressions are so varied.
The Nth degree was such a great part of his show and I hope CNN brings it back someday. If it is true that AC/360 goes back to the 2 hour format in September surely there would be enough time for it.
This is such a classy web site, I am glad that Erica is pleased with it. Judging from some of the others out there, you ladies do a fantastic job with your writing and the content on this site. Also the intelligence abounds on this site. Thanks to all of you for giving me a beautiful place to keep track of Anderson.

@Annie Kate, do you think bigger things are in store for Erica??? I saw her on CNN sunday nite and I think that she did a terrific job!!! She's such a great journalist and I'd like to see bigger things for her. Although I would miss her banter with Andy, too.

@Annie Kate, I love your wallpaper. AC's been away from his show so much the last few weeks and so serious when he has been there of late, that I kind of forgot how funny he can be. He is so humble, somehow I think he would be surprised if he knew how much his fans miss him.

Although he has complained about many of them, Anderson certainly does occasionally go on vacations. Don't forget that he said that he was on vacation in Croatia when Hurrican Katrina formed. And he wrote of his trip to Oaxaca in Mexico. I also heard him speak of vacationing in Morocco. In a recent interview he stated that he prefers working and that when he does go on vacation, he is "torn." But he does go from time to time. So whatever he is doing this time, I truly hope he is enjoying himself.

@Phebe, I hope your life settles down as well. I love this blog and its readers, and of course the ATA "staff" is what makes it all happen! Thanks for all you do to keep it going. As far as I know, there is nothing like it on the web.

Erica Hill is such a sweetheart. I'm glad she took the time to interact with ATA.

I'm a big fan of Richard Quest and wish we could see more of him in the U.S.

That's such a sad story about that Iraqi boy with the horrible burns. It is beyond my comprehension that someone could do such a thing to a child. It helps to restore my faith in America that people are volunteering to help him.

Just as an aside, good riddance to Alberto Gonzales. I only hope that he can be replaced by someone less partisan and more competent. And dare I hope that Michael Vick is finally gone from the news?

Soledad O'Brien is a pretty good sub, but I miss Anderson! Sorry, I guess I already said that! LOL

There's a very interesting interview on AC's webpage that Susan Roesgen did with Ray Nagin.

Does anyone know if Anderson has ever interviewed Mayor Nagin? I know he was refusing to be interviewed, at least for a while.

Anonymous said...

I loved Soledad O'Brien subbing for Anderson last night, though I did not watch the entire show. I like her anchor style better than Erica. But maybe Soledad has been at it longer.

parrotslave said...

Isn't AC is going to be on Oprah on Wednesday, the anniversary of Katrina? I'm guessing he has been working on something for that.

cactuskid said...

@ m.minkoff: Anderson has interviewed Nagin in the past on 360. Then he didn't want to be interviewed for awhile, but then one time consented for Anderson to interview him and canceled at the last minute due to a meeting or something. Anderson heard that he supposedly wasn't at a meeting, but at an restaurant eating in NOLA instead. Anderson got alittle fired up and sent a reporter to that restaurant to catch him coming out so the reporter could talk to Nagin, but Nagin never came out! Guess that restaurant had a back door. That was a great 360! LOL!! Loved it!!!!!

Parrotslave: It is possible that he could be working on something, but is it taking up so much of his time he can't anchor last night and tonight, being only that he is on live for an hour now.

Also, besides Wednesday night, I haven't seen any promos for anything he has been doing.

I am guessing Wednesday night will be the 1 hour live as usual and then back in New York for Thursday and Friday, and off on Labor Day.

OT: Did anyone catch Raw Politics last night? I laughed so hard when Tom talked about Senator Chris Dodd's office being robbed. The thief had no idea Dodd was running for president. Tom replied with "Recent polls suggest, neither does the rest of America." HAHA I laughed until I cried :)

@ Annie Kate - I love your wallpaper.....the many faces of Anderson Cooper. I love it

Erica Hill.....you rock!!!!!!
Thank you so much for taking the time to read the comments and sending the lovely note to Phebe. You certainly made our day when you agreed to do the Q&A

If Richard ends up on DWTS....I will vote for him even if he is not good. He will definately finish higher then Tucker Carlson, that is all I will say about that.

CNN viewers are so generous and I am so glad that Yousiff is going to get treatment. He is definatly someone who deserved it.

Wow thanks for sharing the great Nth Degree. He could talk about anything and it would be pretty awesome :P

@ Evelyn - I totally was laughing hard when TF said that last night. And it was nice to see Gary behind a desk and not out in the rain or in a mine.

I seriously can't wait for Wednesday!!!! and I totally forgot Labor Day is coming up, for our sakes i hope after that we get lots of Anderson :)

OT - Soledad is on Erica's show right now and she seriously looks orange. She is wearing a yellow top and she looks kinda orange. Hopefully that is fixed by tonight

@ Annie Kate, I like your Anderson's wallpaper it's really neat :)

Soledad O'Brien did a real good job on 360 last night.

@acanderfan 11:47pm

Believe me, Acanderfan, this man doesn't know what's the "vacation" mean. He doesn't even look up the dictionary!!! LOL

Annie Kate said...

@acanderfan: I hope bigger and better is in store for Erica if that is what she wants. I don't know if this weekend was a fluke because they needed someone or a tryout or a hint of things to come - but I thought it was worth noting. I think she is great and deserves to be on the "big" station but she may be happy where she is and that's what matters.

@Evelyn - I agree Tom Foreman's statement about Dodd was priceless - even my DH is starting to come up and listen to Raw Politics each night.
