Sunday Odds & Ends

An FOA sent us another treat from WNYC. This is an interview that Anderson Cooper did September 4, 2006 with Leonard Lopate about Dispatches From The Edge.

360 in :60 this week includes both Erica Hill and Anderson Cooper.

I couldn't resist using this picture for one of our Sunday night puzzles. Hope you enjoy it!

This weekend, 60 Minutes rebroadcast Anderson's report on A Life Saver Called "Plumpynut". If you haven't had a chance to see it yet, CBS has it posted on their website.

As always I enjoyed the 360 in 60. I am about to go to bed now, but tomorrow I'll listen to AC's interview about Dispatches.

Thank you for the interview with Leonard Lopate. It was interesting to revist Anderson's Nola experience. It is a shame that he seems to have lost some of his interest in his daily coverage of the news as an anchor. He excells in live story telling and he no longer gets the chance to be that emotive.

A lot of great stuff in your post, BookAsylum!

I did indeed enjoy making that puzzle, what a great picture!

Thanks!

I don't even remember the last time Anderson mentioned NOLA, it was probably the last time he went down there for that speaking engagement and the entire program was spent on topics other than NOLA.

I find it disappointing indeed that he has forgotten. And the flooding out west is just as devastating, perhaps more so.

I like it when Anderson wears jeans with his suit like he was on Friday night, think he was also wearing his jeans on Thursday as well.

Yes,it seems as if Anderson has indeed forgotten about the promise he made to NOLA and the Gulf Coast.
Maybe it's time for him to Keep Himself Honest!

The flooding happening right now is just as bad,if not worse.

I would have thought he would have gone to report from the flood zones, maybe.

Oh well,so much for that idea.

You know, we generally are less than thrilled with some of his subs. perhaps if we would chill about some subs he could feel more free to report live from somewhere and use his gift as a live reporter. just a thought.

I think sometimes it must be frustrating to have a job such as Anderson's because you (meaning he) just can't win. If he's in NOLA, then he should be paying attention to the war, if it's the war, he should be focusing on politics, if politics, why isn't he focusing on "real news."

When he's away actually taping segments or doing PIP, then he should be in the studio because everyone hates having subs in. If he does a speech or goes to a public event or even takes vacation, then he's a sell-out or a slacker.

I think he's doing a pretty good job balancing the demands of the media- as-corporation that the industry is today, while still managing to draw attention to the stories he would like to see told.

Heres my Plan. I watch Keith Olbermann for my news. then when AC talk about politics and no real news for the hundredth time, I feel less hostile.

anon 1:36 PM: you make some good points. Yet one thing in particular that I do have a problem with is that Anderson has said often that he wants to keep NOLA alive. He seems to have let it go. If he doesn't want or can't keep it alive, that is fine, but don't keep telling us that you do when it doesn't happen. He never mentions it anymore and has been there twice in the last year.

@anonymous 11:46, Huh? You think he (or CNN) pays any attention to our complaining? Wouldn’t that be cool? But it’s doubtful.

@anonymous 3:36, that used to be my plan too. Then KO turned so nasty and I couldn't stand to watch anymore. I liked him much better when he was simply snarky.

@anonymous 3:54, unless you are AC's personal assistant, mother, or travel agent how do you know he's only been there twice in the last year? I tend to think he's been there more, it's just not been talked about.

Phebe 4:30 PM: Anderson has only aired twice from there in the past year. Nobody knows if he has gone there privately.

But if he wants to keep NOLA alive, he has to talk about it, not keep it private and to himself.

Many people have the perception he has lost interest because he no longer talks about it publicly.

Anderson's travel agent.....now that would be a cool job. Probably always be busy

@anon 11:46 I agree with Phebe. I don't think we are all that important. If we were maybe we'd be able to post more intelligent conversation on the live blog. To imply that we keep him from doing what he really wants to do because we discuss and contrast subs is ridiculous. JMO

Anon 5:48 Anderson may not have been down in NOLA a lot this past year, but remember CNN has been focusing on politics for the last "century", lol.
I don't think he's forgotten its just kind of on the back burner, but he did say in a recent interview that he would go back after the election, and that's only 132 days away.
