Black Friday

Sapphire will be covering the CNN Heroes Special in her ATA post tomorrow. She will post some AC caps from the special and possibly some clips too. If you just can't wait to read all about it check out her current post on ATC.

Black favorite day of the year! For those of you in other countries that aren't familiar with the term 'black Friday' it's not as gruesome as it sounds. Retailers used to count on the sales on the Friday after Thanksgiving to push them into the black (profitable for the opposed to in the red).

The tradition in our family is to eat our Thanksgiving feast on Thursday afternoon, clear off the table and spread out the newspaper ads. Then we plan our strategy for the day....which stores we go to first, etc. If there are several good door busters we assign our husbands to cover stores we can't get to. The most astounding part is getting to the store at 3AM only to be the 200th person in line.

I know this Olympic shopping even isn't for everyone, but for a shopaholic today is nirvana. We even have a close family friend flying in on Thanksgiving night from Banff (Canada) just to join us for our wacko Black Friday tradition.

As promised here are the last 3 parts of the Shaken and Stirred video. Enjoy and have a wonderful weekend. ~Phebe

I had to laugh at a phrase AC used when describing clothes on the red
carpet, "What shmata are you wearing?" This is a Jewish expression and considering his mother was an upscale designer I thought the remark "shmata" was cute but rather irreverent when it comes to designers in general. I believe he said this in the last clip.

I hope everyone who celebratres it had a nice thanksgiving.

I didn't get to see Hereos. I was at my friend's place. She let me see the first minute when Anderson walks out on stage and then said that I had had my daily Anderfix and she chnaged the channel. Oh well. I doubt I missed anything so I'm not really concerend that I missed it.

360 is not on tonite is it??? I doubt anything worth watching comes on at 10pm. 360 spoils us. We don't have to wonder whats on at 10pm, usually it's on...LOL!

I understand if this does appear on the blog as its not really related - but given recent blogs on prop 8 and US Thanks giving - I have to say it made me feel a little bit better sharing something that I take for grated...

Discrimination against same-sex couples in commonwealth laws (all Australia states) has finally ended.

The lower house on Thursday agreed, without debate, to a range of technical and uncontroversial Senate amendments to a government bill to give same-sex couples equality in areas including, tax, social security, health, aged care and employment.

Attorney-General Robert McClelland said the bill's passage completed the process of removing discrimination from a wide range of Australian laws.

"At long last we have removed discrimination against same-sex couples from commonwealth law," he said.
While its not marriage it is recognition of relationship and shared life, which is a start.

Happy shopping day - I do the same Boxing Day - 26 Dec

Shopping at 3am? As in 3 o'clock in the morning?
Sounds good to me, lol, we should have a Black Friday overhere!

Thanks for the last 3 clips from S&S. I loved the topics and I would have loved to have been there to have my say about some of them.
Oh, last night you wondered wether anyone would recognise the location and I'm curious to find out where it was filmed, so could you let us know? Thanks Phebe!

@kristien, my aunt works at a store in the mall and she had to be there about 2:30am so she is not happy about Black Friday. It does sound like fun to go shopping in the middle of the nite, but I am too lazy to get out of my bed...LOL!

Is Heroes repeating tonite at 10pm??? My friend e-mailed me and said she saw a commerical saying it will be on tonite. I knew I had no reason to be concerned about missing it. CNN will probably repeat it 5 million times this weekend.

@ACAnderFan: I wouldn't want to work at night, but shopping all night would be great for once.

Sounds a bit my like my and look at the adds. However, as I've said before, I'm just not pushy enough to fight may way through a crowd. If I couldn't do it to get to AC, I certainly can't do it to get to those 1/2 off DVD Players - LOL. The thought of all those crowds, the scrambling and the lines...ugh! Mr Em and my daughter-in-law love to shop and love the crowds. I give them my list one and sit the battle out. I do try to make them a good breakfast when they come in from the squirmish. The son and I stayed home with my beautiful little grandsons this year. They have now learned to crawl and I figure I had my aerobic workout in by 7 a.m. -about 10 minutes after I rescued them from their cribs. They are such happy beautiful little boys. I can't imagine a better way to start a day. In the end Mr Em and the D.I.L. were successful in their quests and all are now fed and napping. As for me, my shopping is almost complete except for those few difficult people. I just love my UPS and FedEx guys! For me, that's the only way to shop!

Happy Belated Birthday Phebe. Sorry I missed it!

I am now going to watch the Hereo's Special. I was too busy cooking and cleaning last night. Once again, I am very thankful for my family, friends, and TIVO! Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and for my ATA friends who do not celebrate Thanksgiving, hope you have a nice weekend!

I thought I'd have to be up at 4am to see Heros, but they hid it under "special report" on the programme listing which wasn't defined until later - so I got to watch it at a reasonable 9pm. It was worth the watch. Hugh Jackman was looking good and his "Heros among us" speech is worth the wait. I like listening to that man speak, he needs to be doing that type of thing more often.

My thoughts to the people in Mumbai - espesially Sara who reporting from outside the Taj.

Acanderfan - Hereoes is on tonight at 10pm and also Saturday and Sunday at 8pm.

Phebe - that is the Pravda bar in Manhattan (SoHo) where S&S was filmed. It is the same bar Anderson was photgraphed in for a magazine where he was sitting in a booth and also in the big leather chair. I forget which magazine though.

Wolf was on TSR today - with water in the background. Looks perhaps like he broke in from his vacation?

Wonder if Campbell and others will be on. But I doubt it. Though Tom Foreman is great.

Oh, so there is no live 360 but Heros?

Phebe said...

@Pati Mc, ding, ding, win the prize. I was going to put it in my post on Tuesday, but you beat me to the punch. That pic of him in the leather chair is one of my favorites.

Kristien said...

@Phebe: if he was wearing a turtleneck, I guessed it yesterday!

Wow, thanks Phebe. I finally did something right! LOL. I almost got there on my last trip to NYC, but ran out of time....always happens when I am there.

Add me the the bday list for this week. I am in such great company!! My bday is tomorrow, 11/29. Thanks again. Sorry I messed up your Tuesday post, though.

@2:22AM Heroes will be on tonite and tomorrow and any time in between when there is nothing else to report.
After last years Heroes, this one is, IMHO, a let down. The only good thing is watching a polished AC read the teleprompter. While all the heroes are an inspiration, the rest of the program is a parade of celebrities with their own agenda.

ACAnderFan said...

@Pati Mc, thanks for letting me know when Heroes will be on again :)

The last clip about Lord of the Rings, Anderson said he watched 1 and 2 again before he went to see 3 is LOL funny. I think I did the same thing. He is so cute when he said he was offended that Dan Peres did not watch any of the LOTR movies. So indignant :)

Watching him have a conversation about pop culture is a great way to see his less-serious side.

Thanks for posting! I've never seen those clips!!

@Kristien, You sure were on the right track but Pravda was what I was looking for. I never realized Spoken & Stirred was filmed there until I rewatched it before posting and the background caught my eye.

I wish I had a prize for Pati and a runners up prize for Kristien but we got nada! Thanks ladies for playing along.
