Anderson Cooper Finds Faith, Hope and Desperation in Haiti

I'm in for Julie tonight, who is under the weather. We hope she's feeling better soon.
While I was ready to have a few days off it is nice to have one more night to blog about Anderson Cooper reporting from Haiti. Come next week I'm guessing we'll be back to the same old, same old from NYC. I must say even though these last few weeks have been some of the busiest blogging days we've ever had at ATA I've really found it personal rewarding to document the excellent work Anderson and his fellow journalists and crew have done while covering the Haiti earthquake disaster.

RescueThursday's AC360 opened with Gary Tuchman, Sanjay Gupta and AC discussing the 16 year old girl who was rescued today, day 15 after the earthquake.

Mass Graves

Anderson has again picked up the story of the disrespectful treatment the deceased are receiving in Haiti. Here's his report and interview with a Haitian official.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta took a look at newborns in Haiti and the low level of treatment available to them.

Dr. Jane Aronson, a pediatrician and adoption expert, joined Cooper for a look at the Haiti orphans and what is best for them in the long run.

The Boys
Ivan Watson and Karl Penhaul joined Cooper to discuss Haiti's failed attempt to distribute food today and other stories they've been reporting on.

• Tom Foreman was in the studio with some news on CNN's Stimulus project.
• Randi Kaye took a look at the train in CA at the center of a Stimulus battle.
• Randi Kaye was at the 360 Bulletin desk.
• AC talked with John Avlon about the reaction of Independents to Obama's SOTU address.

• Jeffrey Toobin talked with Anderson about Justice Alito's faux pas at Wednesday's SOTU speech. It was a fascinating discussion, take a look:

Julie sent along a few new Flickr pictures of AC in Haiti.

That's it for me tonight. ~Phebe

Seeing Jeffery Toobin and AC together again reminded me of "old times," and their discussion was fascinating. Especially fascinating is the history of bad blood between Justice Alito and President Obama. Unfortunately, the American public will pay dearly for this inept decision.
Also of interest was the Haitian official, who denied any wrong doing on the part of the Haitian government in the "inappropriate way" the remains of the dead were laid to rest.
Doubt very much whether she'll get back to AC, but we shall see.
I really think AC and his crew got some personal satisfaction out of reporting every nite from Haiti, so the feeling was probably mutual.

The Hatian minister of information is a complete idiot. The bodies aren't being buried and yet she's denying that. Good for Anderson questioning her. She's a typical politician though.

Sanjay piece's about new born babies was interesting. I feel bad for them though, it seems like they're going to have it rough. 7,000 babies born this month there seems like alot. Maybe it isn't though.

I liked Anderson's discussion with Karl Penhaul and Ivan Watson. I know those people are desperate for food, but they really should wait for it in an orderly fashion. Things would be easier if they were calm while waiting.

These 360's from Haiti have been some of the best I've seen in a while. Anderson is doing a great job as he is truly in his element and at his best in the field. And the CNN team down there is doing such a good job.
